I'm sorry about your friend Findswoman :(

Today is one of those days where I did absolutely NOTHING. I had a bad case of insomnia last night and didn't fall asleep until 6 a.m., and then I woke up to find out that the temperature dropped by 10 degrees overnight to 6°C (yes, I know, Mediterranean problems). The good news in this is that it gave me a pretext to stay under a duvet instead of spending the day on autopilot.

No, but I like the different 'verses GW have created and I try to follow the fluff and listen to some podcasts about it. If I had more time/money/ability to focus I would probably try to paint and/or play it.

Yeah the fluff isquite intersting. I was even thinking for a time about starting a Warhammer Fantasy army. But I didn't and I'm glad cause now it would be essentialy worthless. With the whole lore gone and replaced by this age of sigmar nonsense.

Do you read the Horus Heresy?

To my understanding you would still be able to use them in AoS, even if in a new way for many of them, or used them in Kings of War. Personally I found the ending of the WHFB 'verse a rather ballsy move and in a way fitting, GW have proclaimed the end time for around 10 years and then finally did it. And the new 'verse is rather a interesting one and I love what they did with the ghoul kings.

Partly but I follow it more through the After Ullanor podcast and the Independent Character podcasts' comments about the Horus Heresy game books

Well as I wanted to collect Bretonnia this isn't an option. Bretonnia got scrapped completly. In case of the end times its nothing nonsense. It only focused on Undead, elves, Skaven, Empire and Chaos. The other races got virtualy nothing. A lot of plots where either forgotten or ended badly. The Lady of the Lake is just an elven mage? That completly destroyed the Bretonnian lore and made the whole race and its player look like idiots. And that's just an example how GW threw it all away. And they destroyed the whole fluff for a kid friendly universe with Space Marines! Why haven't they just made it their 4th Universe without torching Warhammer Fantasy?

With Horus Heresy you should defenetly check out the novles they are awesome.

Got some new sneakers today. My old ones have no tread and I wore through the insoles. They have no padding anymore. I wore through it to the point where the insoles are ridged from the outsoles.

    So...yeah, I needed new shoes.

I've had a couple days like that recently and I've been having some issues sleeping over the past like two weeks with me not falling asleep till like 4AM. But I'll take any excuse to spend a day under a duvet :p

But I did get to my classes today and got my fears calmed about this damned take home exam. He basically wants us to lock ourselves somewhere for about 3 hours and pound out an essay like we would with any other exam (not really but that's his standards for marking it). He just didn't want to have an in-class exam since it's a distance class (meaning it's a class that is live-streamed to 3 other locations to more remote campuses) and organizing traditional exams for such classes can be hard, since he basically needs to be in 4 places across the province at once to do so (or find 3 other profs willing and able to adjudicate all at the same time). So I don't think I'm going to do it in one sitting (he said not to anyways), but I'm going to try to get motivated to get a bunch done tomorrow.

Plus I got an A- on the paper (which is a really great grade considering he's a really tough marker), so I can basically get 0 on this final and still walk away from the class with 60% :p Which is oddly motivating (though I'm going to try for a bit better than that).

    edit:

I did that to a pair of converse in high school. Granted, it's me so it took 5 years to do so and wore from the outsoles to the insoles (but I did have a habit of dragging my feet under my wheelchair - I was a weird teenager, okay?).

It takes me about that long to wear through a pair of Converse. I have a pair that's about four years old. I only wear them during the summer, though, and they're not real good for walking/hiking.

In other news, this was overheard at a bar:

So I received my early Christmas present today: a brand new tablet to replace the one I dropped and shattered to a million pieces when I had my hand in a cast. Mr Chyn went a bit overboard and got me a model that's so sturdy I think it's meant to be used by people who work on skyscraper construction sites or offshore drilling platforms

Yea, I admit that the End time could have incorporated some of the other armies better.

Elven mage? Was not the idea that the Lady of the Lack and the elven goddess Lileath was one and the same?

Also Bretonnian are not a race, they are an nation or an army (depending on how you see it) that belongs to the human race.

Do you mean Age of Sigmar here? How is it kid friendly?

Of the same reason World of Darkness had to end. If you spend a lots of time promising the end of the world, you actually have to deliver after some time.

And it is not like people can not still play games of WHFB if they want to.

Well I think its said somewhere in the end times that the wood elves only made the Bretonnians think the Lady of the Lake is a god. I think Ariele fooled them, although the end times failed to give an explantion on how an elven mage can make humans stronger and protect them against arrowfire. I personaly belive that the Lady is like all other gods in the warhammer world a chaos god who gets her power through the faith of the Bretonnias and maybe blood sacrfice. (Note that chaos god doesn´t mean she is evil.)

Also Bretonnian are not a race, they are an nation or an army (depending on how you see it) that belongs to the human race.
Well they are a "playable race" but yeah of course they are humans, although to be fair most people think of the Empire by humans in Warhammer. (In blood bowl 2 you even have human teams and bretonnian teams)

Do you mean Age of Sigmar here? How is it kid friendly?
Well they cut out shlanesh for this reason, as they added this stiupid sharades you have to play when playing AoS, they also made it a lot less complex.

And it is not like people can not still play games of WHFB if they want to.
Of course, its just harder to the miniatures or find people to play.

    SECRET NOTES!

Also, mildly annoyed. So, I bought the Her Universe Hoth dress like 2 months ago after ogling over it for like 2 years (I got it on like 40% off, so it wasn't a bad price). What had prevented me from buying it previously was the fact that it had a back zip which (back zip dresses are nearly impossible for me to get into/out of, so I only plan on wearing it for super special occasions). BUT I JUST FREAKING FOUND OUT Mod-cloth sells just the skirts (MUCH easier for dressing purposes). So I bought both the Hoth skit and the Bespin skirts. Merry freaking Christmas to me.

I'll still wear the dress version to my grad and my brothers' grad, and I'll wear the skirts just on regular days, so I guess it wasn't a waste of money to get the dress.

Also, despite hacking off my glorious mohawk five months ago, today I managed to put all my hair back in a ponytale today, which makes my life so much easier now.

I think the ide that the Lady of the Lake had some connection to the Wood elves is something that has been around for quite some time.
And, to may understanding so was it Lileath, not Ariele, who had the double aspect of goddess of both the elves and the Bretonnians.
To my understanding so are only the Chaos gods, well, Chaos gods. The other gods are not of chaos.

I don't think they used races in the game, they used armies.

I would say that just removing Slaanesh don't make it kid friendly, and that he's gone is a plotpoint in the current story, to my understanding, and her deamons are still around.

    What sharades?

You said that as if that's a bid thing. It do makes learning and playing the game easier after all.

Have to ask, how do you know? Since you said that did not play.

Also you can use Bretonnians in AoS https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/AoS_Compendiums/warhammer-aos-bretonnia-en.pdf

Well that´s quite a common mistake in regadrs to Warhammer. All gods in the Warhammer world(With the exeption of the old ones), in Fantasy and 40k are Chaos gods. They all are creatures of the Warp. The Warp is all about emotions and belive is a very strong emotion. And believe and emotions create entities in the Warp. So when enough humans belive that the Lady of the Lake exsists she is born into the Warp, and through the Warp she has powers, like protecting the knights from raged attacks and empoweriings those who drank from the grial. And yeah the main chaos gods work the same way, but they are not only worshipped. If someone, for example an empire solider kill enemies in war, he indirectly worships Korne.
These two videos that explain it quite well:

And since the Bretonnians worship the Lady different from the Wood elves worship of Lileath, they are different gods.

    What sharades?
Well you are essentialy tasked to behave like a certain Warhammer charater to be allowed to reroll dieces. For example if Marius Leitdorf is the general of your army you can reroll failed wounds when you keep talking to an imaginary horse during it.

Have to ask, how do you know? Since you said that did not play.
Well I have a few modles so I could play, but here in germany the hobby is basically unheard of. 40k is somewhat played but not fantasy.

Also you can use Bretonnians in AoS https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/AoS_Compendiums/warhammer-aos-bretonnia-en.pdf
I can? Well that´s good news. Maybe I really should clean up the modles I have.

Anedon Hi. I'm an old WHFB/40K vet and can see you have some hatred of AoS. I'll agree: I don't like it much, either, in comparison. But it's important to realise this is a matter of taste. Many people do seem to like it. For what it's worth, I can kind of see what GW are trying to do from a marketing point of view.

I do get why longtime collectors feel hate for AoS, though. They often put a lot of time, effort, money, sweat and tears into their collections - and it just got pulled out from under with a completely different system. I'm glad you didn't buy that Bret army.

Gamiel I think I understand where Anedon is coming from when he says "kid friendly" wrt three aspects (Anedon jump in here and correct me if I got you wrong):

First, the AoS rules are almost laughably simple. It's almost akin to just plonking down your models, pushing them at the other side, rolling a dice and saying haha I won. In this respect, it is much easier for the younger player to play. Of course, I expect that was the intention by GW.

Second, the army-building rules are formless. You can literally buy any shiny model you like, from any race/faction, and add it. An old friend recently went into a GW store for the first time in ages and told me it had become a "boutique" industry. Rather than encouraging the patient planner-collector, it's all about letting people get whatever cool new one-off purchase they like and immediately using it. GW opted out of calculating points values, too, so you can just play with as many models as you own without limit. Again, quite by intention I expect.

Thirdly, the background. I don't think Anderon means toning down the, errr, darker themes. The fantasy world has become a formless never-ending whatever, without structure. And the key poster-boy army - stormcast eternals - is a transparent attempt to put Space Marines in a fantasy setting. It's no wonder Sigmarites were instantly labelled Sigmarines by the fans. One can almost say it became more grimdark and violent, but that's exactly what the kids with black heavy metal T-shirts like. Again, I understand their reasoning for this: I read somewhere that Space Marines in 40k outsold the entire WHFB range by themselves. One can see why they would want to replicate that success in fantasy. Personally, I fear they may have misunderstood how interconnected the markets are, though.

To both of you, if you're ever in Japan, swing by my place. I have four armies for each game if you want to try it out / play the old rules, we can have a beer and have fun. (They are currently in long-term storage out in the shed lol).

    K.

I consider that completely wrong but since I am not interested in a lengthy discussion on this with all the research to references that would imply so do we have to agree to disagree on this.

Huh, had not heard about that.

Really? That's surprising since the text in Warhammer Visions are in English, German and French.

    Wish you good luck.

Will try if I ever is over. And have to ask, what armies do you have?

Well I had my problems acepting that at first too, but it´s up to you what you like to accept as canon. And if you like Age of Sigmar go ahead.

I don´t know, at least in my region is pretty much unheard of.

That excatly what I mean. It´s defenetly more kid/mainstream friendly and not nearly as complex as fantasy. Both in gameplay and lore.

Well I don´t know if I will ever come to Japan but thanks for the offer. I would defenetly like to play both systems, I also have a 1500 points Empire (Space Marines and Astra Militarum combined) Army in 40k.

And just asking, do you have Total War Warhammer?

Re wearing out shoes: When I did ballet, I'd wear my ballet shoes even after they needed tape to hold them together. I could afford new ones, I just didn't want new ones. They were broken in and comfy. (Point shoes were a different story, I was pretty picky about how broken in those were.)

My favorite sneakers are discontinued so I'm sure I'll end up wearing the ones I have until there's nothing left.

Wait... what?! And Mod cloth had a huge sale last week too. :(

I had a friend that did ballet (and tap). She was pretty picky about her shoes.

The Bespin skirt is still on sale (30% off), so at least I got that.

I got nothing done again today (besides some laundry and printing out 30 pages of notes). UGGGGGG. My brain has lost all focus and I've allowed this house to be turned into a hotel for this wedding.
