    About time too!

Now make yourself useful! Go and review some of the fics I failed to review over the past year. We don't allow people on the fanfic boards just like that, you know.

Misty's weird, I slept in sleeping bags for a year back some fourteen years ago. But those were lined with some sort of cloth instead of nylon and I have and am currently sleeping on top of a comforter on top of a mattress but that is because where my bed's positioned makes it hard to pull it out and put a mattress cover and fitted sheet on the mattress so just using a comforter is easier; that's why i was using the sleeping bag years ago.

Either way, use what you think will be the most comfortable Briannakin.

And welcome to our newest member Mr Chyntuckopoulos! :)

    (oh, Welcome Mr Chyntuckopoulos

and Ewok Poet - it's a kid's bible camp technically, so for sanitary reasons, we bring our own bedding to use on top of plastic-wrapped foam mattresses. It isn't like a family/friend camping trip, it's a huge retreat).

I've never seen Hamilton. Hopefully they start a touring version that makes a stop at the Fox. And that tickets won't be harder to come by than a four-leafed clover.

EDIT: Holy crap, my post went through.

Hello, Mr. Chyn! :) I'm a fan of your impressive data processing skills.

Lady_Misty - You're similar to me. I have a very old bed with the mattress attached to its frame and I had to put a comforter/duvet above that, underneath the sheet. I just don't feel like replacing it while it's still, err, sleepable in.

Briannakin - How does a "Bible retreat" work? Do people socialise, get in some sort of solitude to read the Bible or something else? Nobody has any activity like that here, other than monks, so I'm both clueless and curious.

Mr Chyntuckopoulos! Welcome to the boards, o genius creator of spreadsheets!

If you're inside and prefer a quilt, go for it, Briannakin. I'm not a fan of sleeping bags myself, I hate the constricted feeling of having my legs enclosed. But when I camp, I'm usually in a tent and it's very cold at night, so the down is necessary. If you prefer a quilt, why not? Lord knows the pioneers on the plains didn't have Goretex!

Today, I have alternately been told that I'm pretty and that white men don't want to marry white girls because interracial couples are prettier and god says not to marry in your own race. (Oddly enough, this person has the same disorder as my ex, who holds the same opinion. But my nephew who also has it isn't saying anything like that.)

Then I had a guy hit on me, but tell me that I was an idiot for not self-publishing my books so I'd make more money by publishing a ton of books per year and fixing the issues with them once the readers found them. Then he tried to sell me books on self-publishing.

The only nice guy I've talked to since leaving the house was the one who stopped and offered me a ride in the middle of a rainstorm. I don't know what is up with today. B

So apparently when someone was doing some construction in a nearby apartment, they cut a cable for our internet. I work tomorrow so they can't come and it until Saturday afternoon to fix it. My cell data is getting a workout this month!

Ewok Poet - The Celebration people don't care if you are part of a fan group. They'll let you have a fan table (the JCF used to, but it was waayyy too much work for very little gain and TFN never invited us to be a part of theirs) but that's about it. Even people that got media crededentals for fan media didn't get into panels automatacly this time, like they did in the past.

Mr Chyntuckopoulos!! It's so nice to finally meet you! :D Welcome!!

Bri- Yaaaayy!! Congratulations! If I wasn't on my phone I'd post you an awesome series of Hamilton and West Wing gifs. This is my IOU. ;)

I think i would die of mortification if I self published anything and it had errors; I get embarrassed, mildly, when I reread my fan fic work and find errors. And to make money off of self publishing with errors with plans to correct the errors and resell it is reprehensible. I hope you gave him a death glare Ish.

Pretty much. I also gave him an impassioned lecture on how my best work comes after people ask me to consider a story in a different light.

Haaaave you folks ever worked with anybody who DID NOT WANT their errors fixed?

I did. And the person used to be an A-list celebrity. I connected two paragraphs and added a missing apostrophe and then I got yelled at.

And I can remember that somebody on here, can't remember who for the life of me, had a witty excuse when I pointed out a common error. I guess people don't like getting caught doing that?!

I always welcome corrections in stories, though I'm more likely to leave a senten

mavjade - Wow, that's odd, I never knew that a website would have a problem with its own extension. O_O Not cool. Posting news and actually dealing with people are two things that are, in my mind, ranked as equal. Both take time and effort.

    See what I did there?

I'm the secretary of the local chapter of League of Utah Writers and people look flabbergasted at how well I deal with critique. I get a professional edit of my books just because my roommate wants to read what I've been writing and has a degree in linguistics and editing. She also is the reason for a subplot and prologue.

That's reasonable. Like, if something can improve your writing further and it comes from somebody who actually knows stuff, it can only be a good thing!

I know that having a pro like Findswoman as beta on more than half of my things helped me with many issues with English - handling articles properly, commas in reported speech (they're completely different in Serbian) and pretty much everything other than combining tenses. And I had somebody proofread a series of poems I e-booked some years ago.

Now, if I only had a proofreader for my native language. I don't make many errors, but there's got to be something I get wrong.

There are different ways of doing it, but we use the "manuscript method" where we basically have 3 hour sessions where we focus on about half a chapter of the book of Mark (last year I was in the group that did the first 8 chapters, this year we are finishing off the book). We get printed pages of the chapters so we can write all over them. We ask questions, make observations, and try to answer questions using books that will give us background context (like historical and cultural context). We have accesses to resources (books :p ) that allow us to look up passages in the original Greek. It sounds really nerdy, but it is a lot of fun. There are also some more traditional camping fun like hiking and canoeing on the ocean. AAAAAANNNNND some not so traditional camping activities like poetry writing/reading AAAAANNNND rapping in Arabic with our Syrian friend.

    I'm holding you to that.

And now, my wrists are killing me after that exam, so I'm off to do something that doesn't involve typing.

That's one of my favorite things from when I took classes to be a court interpreter. Of 40 people, 5 of us were white. All of us were bilingual. We all have each other tips on our syntax and idioms and colloquialisms and the instructor would nitpick our literal translations so we learned to work with multiple levels of interpretation. It was my favorite classroom experience ever. I need someone like that for my Spanish writing, though a friend of mine did that kind of beta for my petitions.

Also, Briannakin, in high school, I took daily religious study classes because my college of choice looked favorably on that. My sophomore year, I was good enough at Greek that the teacher lent me her copy of the New Testament in Greek and I used it for the whole year. I loved that so much.

So the last week for me has been busy and productive, but expensive.

Friday, I had to buy new sandals and flip-flops (total cost: about $75 + tax). That evening, I went to a Pokemon TCG tournament, paid a $5 entry fee, and won five booster packs and $40 in store credit after finishing in second place. :D

Saturday, I went back to the same store for a bigger tournament ($1,000 cash purse), but drew a couple of bad matchups and dropped out once it became impossible to cash. That night, when I went to hibernate my computer by pressing the power button, as I normally do at night, it didn't respond, so I hibernated through the Start menu, figuring that it was just another temper tantrum like that laptop liked to do on occasion and that it would be working fine the next day.

Sunday, I made my first visit of the season to Kings Island amusement park, rode the new coaster there for the first (and second) time, and spent about $100 (mostly on two season-long plans, one for free soft drinks all season and one for free on-ride photos). After I got home, I tried to turn my laptop on, only to discover that the power button was flat-out dead and there was no way to power it on. So I temporarily switched to my ancient nine-year-old former gaming laptop that now runs Ubuntu Linux, and struggles to run Firefox with only one tab and nothing else open.

Monday evening, after work, I went to Best Buy and spent $1,000 on a new laptop (charging it to my Best Buy credit card with a promotional offer for no interest if paid in full within 24 months).

Tuesday, I started the new laptop up for the first time, quickly went through the setup screens, and activated the Dropbox promotional offer that it came with (25 GB storage free for one year), while making sure that it was working correctly. Meanwhile, I performed hard drive transplant surgery on the dead laptop and the old gaming laptop, removing the hard drive from the dead one and inserting it into the empty second hard drive bay in the old one. I then hooked up an external hard drive to the old laptop, mounted the hard drive from the dead laptop as read-only (due to the Windows partition being hibernated), and started copying stuff over to the external hard drive with liberal use of the "tar", "cp", and "git bundle" commands in the terminal.

Wednesday, I wiped the hard drive on the new laptop clean and installed Ubuntu as the sole operating system. I did this because ever since I resurrected that old gaming laptop with Ubuntu two years ago, Windows has been slowly driving me insane to the point that I've grown a preference for Ubuntu. So out with Windows and in with Ubuntu. I installed the Ubuntu Dropbox client and used MultCloud to migrate all of my files over from Google Drive to Dropbox (because Dropbox officially supports Linux, while Google Drive does not), and began the process of downloading everything from Dropbox while I hooked up the external drive and imported the stuff that wasn't on Google Drive. I also started the process of installing my favorite indicators and programs, and got the Windows version of the Pokemon TCG Online client running through Wine.

Today, I've finished the Dropbox download, started the process of weeding out duplicate files and stuff I no longer need, and am working on uploading some additional stuff that really should be backed up but wasn't on Google Drive due to limited storage space on the free plan (I was using 16 of 19 GB on Google Drive, but on Dropbox, after deleting a bunch of duplicate photos and other files, I'm only using 14.5 GB of 27.25 GB).

So yeah, that's a busy, productive, and expensive week. I have to work tomorrow and Saturday, so I won't get as much done on those days. I'm supposed to be unavailable on Saturdays, but this Saturday is the local high school prom, so all the high school students requested the day off, meaning they had to draft virtually everyone else to handle the crowds that day (as Saturdays are always busy), regardless of availability.
