I have a question for both new members and older ones.
What were your initial impressions of the JC?
I thought "It's like talking SW with your friends... only like 1000 of them"
I was actually pretty impressed by the amount of organization and work that went on here. It's a huge site, but I think the amount of work people put into it makes others feel welcome and much less intimidated.
I still feel that way, actually.
Oh, interesting question.
I thought the JC was just funny at first.
I came here through some links on TFN, they promoted some classic JC threads like Darth Holliday's "Exploited Universe" on the Episode II news page.
I enjoyed them a lot, but to be honest, it took me a while to realize that there was more than just these threads. (Hey, my english was really bad, and I had never been to a message board before. )
Anyway, then I finally clicked the right links, and discovered the rest of the boards. And enjoyed them ever since.
I thought it was really big, and everybody seemed to know everything about everything, and I had just seen the OT a couple of times. It was also my first experience of a message board, so I didn't get a hang of the social stuff until 2000!
At first, I thought it was a large group of mature people discussing the Star Wars films.
Boy, was I wrong.
I agree with YodaJeff on this issue.
It was overwhelming at first. Still is to an extent, but much more understandable now.
More fortunate people than I.
Of course at this point I was only considering the size of their........
star wars book collections.
The time I registered I was listening to a song, and when I picked my icon, this song was playing
"A big 'ol doll fell out of a window"
"Its a wonder his head did not split"
"But he was lucky, because he fell in a big barrel of shhhhhh"
"aaaavviing cream, keep yourself clean"
Something like that, I can't remember, but when ever I go pick a new icon, that song ALWAYS gets stuck in my head.
I came here first on the fanfic boards ... and I remember thinking that most people here were crazy in some way or another, so I would fit right in.
let's see. my first impression was daaaaaaaaaaaaaang it's a big board!!! [face_shocked]
As I recall, my first impression was something along the lines of "This is huge and I really have nothing to say." So I left for a year without ever posting.
Hmm...I started out in the Literature boards, so for a while I felt a bit intimidated since I don't analyze books as much as some people do. [face_shocked]
Then I found the YJCC and Phoenix FanForce boards... [face_shocked]
...and I got over being intimidated.
I thought it was huge (but well-organized) and that YJCC would always be too fast a forum for me to keep up with.
The third point has proven not to be true
Rick McCallum loves you!
I was surprised by the number of boards and active posters the JC has. I've visited TFN for a long time, but I never thought to look around the message boards even though I was aware of their presence. And I thought, and still think, that it has an very strong sense of community and the administration must be very committed to be able to keep this place as clean as it is. I was also impressed by the amount of discussion that is actually coherent and bordering on intelligent, for a message board... although I enjoyed JCers' wilder antics as well. I was especially surprised when Rick McCallum first told me he loved me, and I remember blinking at the screen a few times. I have now come to accept it... I love you too, Rick!
I was kind of like this at first:
Then like this:
Saw some threads, and I was like this:
But normally I'm like this:
[image=images/faces/plain.gif][/hl] or [hl=white][image=images/faces/mischief.gif][/hl]
That pretty much sums it up.
...and a creepy feeling...
I kinda of can't remember my first impressions. I kinda stayed out of large threads & posted in new topics (Still do). I only post in large threads if I have been there from the start (Ie: War of the Galaxies, EUDF etc.)
I did not comprehend the the size of the JC at the start.
How about, you tell us your first impressions, too?
When I came to these boards the first time I saw a lot of threads (to much threads) and I don't know where I should start.
But at the second time I recognized that it is very well organized!
I just started by lurking around and get a bit more familiar to the boards and I know there always will be someone who will try to help me! That's why I joined!
My intial impressions of the JC were...
I'd never fit in.
About three weeks later I felt right at home and was having a blast.
I thought it was a crazy house.
I saw the boards, got scared by the size of it, and didn't come back for a month. During that time I heard good things about the JC on other SW boards, and eventually mustered up the courage to actually post. I haven't stopped posting ever since.
I was in complete awe and admiration of some of the "old crowd" of PSA. Eventually, I got to know some more people and began to fit right in. Been here ever since.
