Challenge First Sentence (Twich's Twisted Sisters!) We got new sentences - Get em while they're hot!

Okay I thought that this challenge might be fun, so let's see what happens with it.

Here's the premise. I'm going to post a sentence here. Just one sentence. That will be the first sentence of a fic.

No rules on length, characters, style..format...any of it.

And just to see how different everyone's thought process is, we post the first paragraph of that fic in this thread. Just the first paragraph! No more than that! If people want to see the full product, they can go to the forums. So at the end of the challenge, everyone's fic will start with the same sentence.

I'll be starting threads in all of the forums (before, saga and beyond) so that people can post their fics there. Make sure when you post the fics, you reference back to this thread. (The moderators specifically asked me to start the threads, so please post your fics there. It will help the board not get too cluttered up and we all know that will help! LOL!)

And if you like, you don't even have to do a complete fic. Just post the rest of the first paragraph here and let everyone know what you would do with that sentence.

Hmmm... Well, well, well...This seems very interesting. I shall mull over this challenge...

 

Does it matter if the entry is the start of a chapter in an ongoing story? If it dosn't I've found somewhere for the line to go in my fic...

Seriously though, great starting sentence. It could be used in any of the three forums. Cool!

Actually, it's supposed to be the first sentence of a fic so that at the end, everyone who participates will have the same starting sentence and we'll all get to see how others take it.

Okay, I've posted mine in the Beyond Thread! Here are the first two paragraphs (two, because number one is so short):


No Problem

As she wandered down the hallway, she clutched the only weapon that she could find and prayed that none of the blaster bolts dancing from around the corner would find their mark in her. No reason to hurry. A half-mug of ale?s no match for a blaster anyway.

Suddenly, the hail of fire stopped. Shouts and sounds of booted feet on the run grew louder as she thought better of continuing toward the fight. Ducking into a doorway, she watched as five spacers tripped and stumbled toward the lift doors at the hallway intersection. She sipped her ale quietly as one of the spacers palmed the lift?s call panel over and over.

Hope Still Lived


As she wandered down the hallway, she clutched the only weapon that she could find and prayed that none of the blaster bolts dancing from around the corner would find their mark in her. The captain had begged her not to leave the bridge but waiting around to be captured was not an option. So against all hope she took to the battled torn corridors praying to find something that could help her in this desperate hour. The sound of a body slamming against the wall jarred her from her thoughts. Just a few feet away from her was the body of one of theirs guards. She looked into his lifeless eyes and realized that this man gave his life to protect her and to protect the small amount of hope she carried.

Title: A Jedi's Best Friend

Characters: Unnamed Jedi and his "Padawan"
Summary: A Jedi and his "Padawan" are on a retreat that gets interupted by danger.
Notes: This takes place in the earlier days of the Order.

As she wandered down the hallway, she clutched the only weapon that she could find and prayed that none of the blaster bolts dancing from around the corner would find their mark in her. The lights flashed on and off in a rapid, disturbing pattern that disoriented her. She moved further down the hall, away from the firefight, hoping to gain exit to the outdoors where she knew there were safer places to hide. She also hoped to find her master there. She had to warn him somehow of what she had seen.

So, will there be a different one any time soon? Unless the people doing the shooting are doing target practice for gym class, this is too violent for my no-killing rule.

 

Blaster fire doesn't necessarily mean someone dies. I managed to write one that was quite mushy!

Great idea, Twich! And thanks for creating the threads and checking with the mods! It makes our jobs easier and now we get to sit back and enjoy the responses!

 

Well, you always COULD make them doing target practice for gym class....(Hehe!) Did you see OJN's in Beyond the Saga?? LOL! Great ideas.

If this takes off, I may post another one soon without any killing or blasters. Maybe next one will be mush and gush??
