Happy Birthday, and don't forget to bring a trusty towel with you everywhere you go, especially since it's Friday the 13th. You never know just when you'll need it. ;)

Bon Anniversaire @anakinfansince1983! :) Don't go too crazy!

    @Dathomir-Witch:

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"

The Kili subplot is handled very well IMO, it's not overwhelming at all.

    +Opening sequence flashback
    +Gorgeous as always
    +Beorn
+Stunningly creepy spider scene (Seriously, it's terrifying)
    +Mirkwood is... wow
    +Thranduil is one sassy elf
+Legolas and Tauriel work brilliantly within the story
+The barrel escape sequence is simply one of the best set pieces EVER
    + Lake-Town is freaking wonderful
    +Stephen Fry is great
    +SMAUG, SMAUG, SMAUG, SMAUG, SMAUG
    +The Parkour was amusing

-A few plot threads are certainly left to dangle, but their resolution is coming in "There and Back Again" and as such I can't hold it against the film.

Overall, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" definitely takes several creative liberties from the source material, but I never felt like Tolkien's work was being treated in a sacreligious manner. The cliffhanger ending was stunningly GORGEOUS but damned I be if it wasn't annoying to realize another year was ahead for the scene's resolution. But damned I be as well if I wasn't absolutely thrilled for two hours and forty minutes. Another triumph from Peter Jackson & Co. Go see it. NOW.

    10/10

    Happy birthday @anakinfansince1983! [face_party]

So true. Akash, go get some colors! And think of an awesome mod title to boot! Try this site, with your name on it (!), to test out different colors! :)

Almost saw the spoilers, which opened up when I hit "reply" (bah!), but I'll try to refrain from clicking it until I've seen the film!

You all are awesome. Thanks for the birthday wishes. :)

I'm interested in what people think of the movie but don't want spoilers...what to do, what to do...

And who the hell am I kidding, I read the book, it's not like I don't know what happens.

That's it I'm getting my scarf, Bofur hat, and the car started this instant. Can't wait any longer.

Also I'm glad the Kili part wasn't overkill. Overkili. I was worried that would come off as Hobbit fanfiction.

Didn't open the spoiler tags, just a quick question:

Am I likely to puke during the spider scenes?

No, except if you are arachnophobe.

The scene makes Shelob in Return of the King look like a walk in the park.

I have a hard time with the tarantula from Home Alone and the spiders on Minecraft.

Probably. I squirmed a bit during that scene and I'm not particularly bothered by spiders..

Ugh. I'll wait for the DVD and skip over that scene.

I was playing Minecraft with my son and he kept putting signs in the middle of my house that said "LOL". He also put a spider web in it and iron bars on the windows.

    I felt like Homer Simpson.

    "Why you little...!" :p

No, but I'm sure if there is a hell, that movie will be playing on repeat when I get there.

Seriously, I could barely stand the poster for that movie.

So I saw Desolation Of Smaug some hours ago and it was great; I went in without setting my expectations bar too high and I had a really fun time watching it (you bet I'm kooking forward to part three next year).

(But yeah, anakinfan would definitely go into cardiac arrest during the Mirkwood spiders scene; definitely beats the Shelob sequences in Return Of The King when it comes to the creep factor).

Maybe something like the episode of Ducktales when they got shrunk by the Microducks from outerspace and Webby ended up in the spider web would be more anakinfan's tolerance level for spiders. =b
