Gooood morning, Star Wars TV!

Today it is Friday the 13th, the opening of that movie involving a dragon, a huge-ass spider and dwarves and hobbits going down the river in barrels, and today...

I am the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Celebration of this milestone will, at some point tonight or tomorrow, involve steak and margaritas.

A few of my co-workers threw me a surprise party yesterday, and I was surprised, because it was yesterday.

The Kili subplot is handled very well IMO, it's not overwhelming at all.

+Opening sequence flashback
+Gorgeous as always
+Beorn
+Stunningly creepy spider scene (Seriously, it's terrifying)
+Mirkwood is... wow
+Thranduil is one sassy elf
+Legolas and Tauriel work brilliantly within the story
+The barrel escape sequence is simply one of the best set pieces EVER
+ Lake-Town is freaking wonderful
+Stephen Fry is great
+SMAUG, SMAUG, SMAUG, SMAUG, SMAUG
+The Parkour was amusing

-A few plot threads are certainly left to dangle, but their resolution is coming in "There and Back Again" and as such I can't hold it against the film.

Overall, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" definitely takes several creative liberties from the source material, but I never felt like Tolkien's work was being treated in a sacreligious manner. The cliffhanger ending was stunningly GORGEOUS but damned I be if it wasn't annoying to realize another year was ahead for the scene's resolution. But damned I be as well if I wasn't absolutely thrilled for two hours and forty minutes. Another triumph from Peter Jackson & Co. Go see it. NOW.

Also I'm glad the Kili part wasn't overkill. Overkili. I was worried that would come off as Hobbit fanfiction.

Ugh. I'll wait for the DVD and skip over that scene.

I was playing Minecraft with my son and he kept putting signs in the middle of my house that said "LOL". He also put a spider web in it and iron bars on the windows.

I felt like Homer Simpson.
