We have "hobo" spiders in the American northwest (not sure how big their range is). Everyone kept telling me that they have the same kind of necrotic venom that brown recluse spiders do, while everything that I've read, including Orkin's website, insists that this is a myth. On Thanksgiving I went to a coworker's house, had a little too much to drink and wanted to see if I could put that myth to rest when I found a hobo spider. No amount of provoking that sucker could get it to bite me. So I guess I couldn't confirm anything except that it must take A LOT to get bitten, which is kind of reassuring. That also was not something I think I could ever repeat sober.
