Nice, I must say, for some reason, I kind of like it. Looks a bit freaky though with the huge cockpit and the wings almost look like they were wielded into place onto an existing craft. I wonder though if these are replacement gunships for the LAAT or something or are they more urban gunships maybe? Wonder what designation these things are getting and how they can be incorporated into the EU.

I would be disappointed though if the game got cancelled. Less Starwars games makes me sad :(

    TFU has these 2 uglies

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nemesis-class_gunship

Sane Imperials though go for a Sentiel assault shuttle or military Lambda which are about the same size, have way better weapons, heavy shields, more troop and equpiment space and are actually able to operate in space ;)

I liked that it got used by the Separatists. Modified versions used by the Black Sun are called frigates, even. And the one from TPM/AOTC was a gunship used by mercenaries employed by Jabba to escort his smuggler ships. The Krayt's Honor. Really one of the best designs in the prequels, yes. Stood out when I first saw TPM.

I don't think an airspeeder needs to work in space. You're mixing two entirely different roles. :p

Just pointing out that there is no need for the Imperials to even have a replacement for the LAAT as just taking an Assault Shuttle will make more sense. The whole LAAT design is outright bizarre anyway, as it is a space invasion ship that is not independently space capable and has no shields or heavy armor, but still is the size of a shuttle. Whilst the hauled troops are just meant to jump out the side and are fully open to enemy fire the whole time. It’s not even like they are cheap, coming in at some 65000 credits a piece, you can buy an upgraded light freighter for that and actually have a more useful assault ship.

LAAT is a great ground assault vehicle, A quick extraction of a trapped clone platoon or at least thirty troopers.Think about it quick deployment of your troops, can manuver in the atmosphere. I guess a good example of the LAAT to modern times would be like the Hueys used in Vietnam by the American Army. the doors shut also to protect troops from ground fire and a later version was built that was space capable.

As can Assault Shuttles whilst they can take a few hits and actually escape into space and tend to even come with hyperdrives and shields.

It’s not just an example, the LAAT is such a clear attempt to recreate a helicopter gunship/transport you have to be surprised they did not actually give it rotors.
Whilst they are fully exposed trying to get out or in, a hatch or ramp somehow seems the more sensible approach here.

    1. what are the defense of an imperial assault shuttle. I think that while the shuttle was on the ground it's just a sitting target. But the LAAT has cannons that are for defense, Two on the wings two ion repeaters in the front.

    2.Agreed

    3. I have no idea for this one truly a stump for me, I don't even know how long it takes the doors to open and shut, I guess you could half shut half open. But you couldn't load and unload troops as fast

Did you read the article on the LAAT? I went back to read an Article on the assault shuttle.

And two big cannons on top that have a store of 4 air to air missiles and 4 air to ground missiles.I read it in the link from my earlier post

Both the Lambda and Sentiel have over heavy shield systems and extra amour plating, whilst having rear and front mounted laser weapons, the Sentinel even comes with repeater blaster turrets (similar to the one the Falcon has) especialy to provide cover fire, as well as heavy missle launchers and an ion turret.
Just seems strange that they could not think of anything better than to have them stand crammed in there like in a subway, with only 2 sliding metal doors to protect them, when even freighters come with ramps that provide cover for people trying to get aboard or off.

Of course, :) which got me wondering how they crammed speeder bikes in the rear or how the med droid they seem to haul along is actually meant to have space to work if the full 30 troopers are standing in the compartment.

The dropship isn't too bad though isn't great either but the Nemesis doesn't look like a good design to me  Though, TFU also had this which I kind of like even if it were almost a superficial change to the LAAT: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Multi_Altitude_Assault_Transport

I Haven't played those games. But i think the info you provided was awesome, I was obsessed with LAAT from the Republic. But upon seeing these three ships , I thought that they were even cooler, It is still early in the morning here and i have to get to work so i just clicked the links to see the pictures of them and where they were seen. When i come home tonight i intend to read about them. So i have more info about them before i start trying to compare them.

The shuttle i guess you can say is better then the gunship, only because the LAAT would be considered outdated. I also thought about the doors again and i remember from ROTS the Invincible Hand the flagship of General Grevious had shields to keep the vaccum of space out, and i know that all ships have that. So i got to thinking that maybe they could put something similiar on the side of the gunship that would keep lasers out and allow for the passing of troops through the field. so im pretty much going on a protective shield that allows biological troops and personel in but keeps laser blasts out.

I just remember me just being utterly baffled why it just stood there in the air whilst its doors slid open and the troopers would try to kill Starkiller by shooting out the sides, when the bloody gunship could just strafe him.

It and especially its background in the Databank just got me wondering on why they would even bother if they have TIE fighters and Assault shuttles (build by the same company none the less), though it really just seems to have been a technology test bed that never caught on.

Those would have been mentioned @ shields, plus you can actually see shoot basing straight through several times. Also atmosphere shields are said to only provide protection against particles, not blaster weapons.

On the MAAT, I don't recall there being much on them sadly. I think it only featured in the PS2 version of the game. It was just shown as being a new different version of the LAAT. Mind you, I wouldn't mind seeing them again and used in the the EU.

In-universe wise, I am intrigued on the idea of a test bed technology thing... though equably, the Moff that made it could just have been crazy and spent tonnes of credits on his pet project even. Really, game wise, it was just an excuse for a special boss battle. Kind of like the AT-KT from TFU... though that was actually a bit cool :p Just an AT-ST variant really designed for Kashyyyk's environment.

I wonder if the Stormtrooper and Assault Transports took over the roll of the LAAT. Remember that the stock LAAT was an atmospheric craft, without even orbital capability. As such, it would be of limited utility once the Navy switched over to the space-only Imperial-class as its primary ship of the line. Those transports spaceworthy, commendably sturdy, and have a variety of external weapons hardpoints suited to the kind of close air support work we saw gunships do in the Clone Wars.

Kind off. Ray Shields seem to stop the high energy component of the attack, whilst Particle shields don’t.

Oh the Moff that made it was certainly semi insane with too much time and money on his hands, though he still happens to be the most fun part of TFU 2 ;) and yep the AT-KT is a nice idea.

Certainly looks like they took the role, along with various other models.

Since the show is likely not to be renewed who knows, though there is always the potential of them actually showing up in the ST or any of the Spin Offs.

Why compare a Republic planetary vehicle with Imperial shuttles when the Republic already has its own shuttles? There's the Eta, Nu, Theta, the WEG-era ones...
The LAAT is just an airspeeder (with some models having orbital reach). The assault shuttle is a shuttle, with hyperdrive. They're different designs that aren't directly comparable and one doesn't replace the other.

We've had dreadnoughts since season 2, thanks to TEGTW's retcon. [face_peace]

Nice... now all it needs is a designation like the LAATs do and we are all good :p So, definately made to be used by police forces which is all good to me. Using actual LAATs would have been problematic.

I don't like that you think the LAAT is nothing more then an airspeeder with space capabilities, that doesn't say much for it. And i understand what your saying about the shuttle and the LAAT not being comparable, because one is a shuttle the other a gunship.

Speaking of shuttles, we will get to check out the new Imperial shuttle in the Legacy 2.0 series soon. I am also hoping to see the Triumvirate Navy at one point as well. Presumably it is a mix of Stazi's GA warships and Marasiah's Imperial ones, but given that the new Triumvirate is apparently spending some serious coin on rebuilding the galaxy and re-establishing a government, maybe we will see some new capital ships as well!
