Finally caught up on Rebels after the Thanksgiving holiday. Really loved the look of the new Imperial Interdictor, too bad it could not defend against an very overused plot ;). It would have been really nice if they did mention the Immobilizer 418 class already or the tech already existed in the new canon.

Maybe a explanation that this was a more powerful version of the original tech as mentioned above. Maybe in the new canon the previous Immobilizer 418 tech could only prevent a ships from jumping into hyperspace and could not pull one out of it? I did not read Tarkin, so I didn't know the context in the new canon. It would be cool to see the Legends version of the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer show up as a design alternative too, make into a Sienar vs Kuat competition.

Can you scale it using that hangar? Let's assume that it is exactly the same hangar as on the ISD. Would that still put the ship in the 1k+ range?

Dammit, Tzizvvt! I clicked just for a pic, but that's actually a mild spoiler - I feel certain this is the first time we've seen a space battle (involving multiple ships) in the film - which I'm trying to avoid now.

It's not from the film, just made for the TV commercial. They took assets from Lucasfilm, just like that Duracell commercial (which had OT-era AT-ATs). The actual jeep the commercial is selling doesn't pop up until the very end.

    New starships from Commander:

E-50 Landseer, a modified Corellian shuttle for the Rebels.
T-5 Deliverance, a shuttle for the Imperial side.

    They're both logistics vessels.

It's slightly better but I still find the
recessed bridge awkward. I think they went for fuction over form.

The Rebel shuttle in Commander has a nice lineage with the Star Shuttle. As does the Imperial one with the Lambda and Sentinel.

Yeah, the Finalizer-class Star Destroyer is definitely about function over form. The problem is, IMO, form is important for sci-fi/space opera starships. They don't always make the most sense, but they are supposed to look wicked cool, unique, and imposing. We haven't really seen what the "new" ships from TFA look like (ie, ones not directly modeled on old vessels like the X-wing, TIE, etc) and I am hoping that we see some awesome ones. The
Resistance transport that we've seen from the Lego set
looks kinda cool, plus I'm still hoping to see more Resistance fighters and capital ships.

I like the design overall, yet it doesn't really feel imperial enough to me. Which is a bit weird since I am usually complaining about the lack of unique designs in TFA. Some times I just don't understand me.

It's basically a Stormtrooper Transport from TIE Fighter meets a Higgins Boat.

I thought Higgins boat when I first saw it too. I stumbled upon the black series titanium series versions of that and the new snow speeder on Friday. You can even open up the bow ramp, pretty cool. Hope they make the new Imperial walker eventually too.

OK, lets throw lets though a very open EU related question. In terms of design and cool factor how would people say the ships introduced in EU compare with those in the films?

Well, there is a wide range. A lot of the EU ships are based off of concept art from the movies (Victory class SD, Z-95, Giels SSD)

That said, I personally love the design of the Liberator cruiser

The Dreadnaught-class looks cool, but the problem is I think it's partially "borrowed" from Battlestar Galactica to begin with...

The Dauntless-class I'm liking because it's tied to the Subjugator-class by way of Sullustan designers. The Liberator has its own look that doesn't mimick any other design line. It's got sharp angles, but in a more "open" way than the Imperial designs.

The New Class Modernization Program, at least the Nebula-class Star Destroyer and Endurance-class fleet carrier, and the Secutor-class Star Destroyer are definitely my favorites, though I do also love the advanced TIEs, especially the TIE Defender, TIE Avenger, and TIE Phantom.
