Considering who is supposed to be the main Imperial villain in season 3, maybe we could get these: [face_praying]

Zaarin? The Fleet Admiral in Aftermath did seem to be a music fan, after all - maybe he survives all the way to ROTJ. :D

I'm ashamed of myself. Here you all are, talking about "Defenders," and this was the first thing that came to mind...

Looks like a G.I.Joe toy spaceship.

The Art of TFA book has some neat TIE concepts that would look great in the movies. Some that definitely remind me of the old TIE Interceptor. I'm assuming, based on past experience, that many of the unused concepts for TFA will find their way into XIII and IX.

You're close! It was a toy from the Droids line, that became the New Republic Defender.

Forgot about the T-85. Well, what about as the low end of a high-low fighter mix? Like the F-15/F-16 or F-35/F-22 blends. Freitek doesn't have to be an Incom spinoff this time. The E-wings could be the cheap fighter bought in larger numbers for local forces and the X-wings be the high end fighters that are more expensive and obtained in smaller numbers for the Fleet fighter arm.

Is that meant to be the Executor? I'm pretty sure the engines didn't go where they're drawn. Cool if it's a different ship, though.

EDIT: Never mind, it's supposed to be it. I guess artist interpretation is at hand here.

Would have been cool if it was a new Star Destroyer, but always nice to see an Executor

That Executor image is OK, but it can't beat this classic:

Yeah, it is confirmed to be the Executor, so that is a Dark Empire-class artistic impression. :p

In a minor Episode VIII spoiler, courtesy of a video posted to the Star Wars YouTube page:

We see Ackbar on set, with a much more naval looking uniform. The set has the trapping of Rebel warships, which is cool. We see a new Abednedo pilot too!

Yeah, that is a pretty cool drawing visually, but a pretty terrible one from an accuracy standpoint. I would not have recognized that as the Executor (or its class) from appearances alone.

That's... actually better than any idea I had in my head about how that ship looked.

It's meant to be a scaled-up version of the stealth corvette, right?
Also, I updated the post with another ship from the same issue.

Not that interesting designs even if the Maxima-A-class heavy cruiser is a nice variation on the traditional imperial pizza slice. The art is also not the best for depicting ships

Given that both the Maxima-A and the Resurgent-class are slightly asymmetrical - maybe that's going to be a signature style with First Order warships?

So the First Order lack geometric order in their ships? Figures.
