Well, that's because of all the people that complained the prequels didn't "feel like Star Wars" because the ships didn't look exactly the same. So JJ and LFL decided to make the ships in TFA look exactly the same. And then they made a billion dollars so they kept up with it for TLJ.

Well, three non-MC75s escape at the end of "The Burning Seas", but that does leave a long time before the appearance of the Rebel fleet.

@AdmiralNick22, if all the cruisers at Mako-Ta are disabled thanks to Trios' subterfuge, can we assume that in fact, the whole group of 39+ ships (38 from my interpretation of visible ships and 1 three-winged cruiser seen in the issue #55 preview)? Ships completed at Tellaris would not have had these defects right?

Hard to say. Trios has been supplying parts to the Alliance for awhile, I suspect that those parts made their way to Telaris as well. Or, that the Telaris cruisers received upgrades at Mako Ta.

And Avatar broke all records back in 2010, despite being creatively bankrupt rehashing of the most basic nature vs. technology story. Not a mark for creativity nor quality, imho.

I wasn't saying that it had anything to do with quality, just giving a reason why they chose the ship designs they did. Empire and Rebels, TIE fighters and X-wings, Star Destroyers and Nebulon frigates. That makes people buy movie tickets. E-wings vs Killik dartships or Vong coralskippers? Not so much, I'd imagine.

TLJ's tight framework didn't allow for much in terms of new designs, but I think they made every one count. I don't get the hate for the bombers, they look totally Star Wars and super cool to me. (I know people have issues with how they were used, which I don't get either for other reasons, but they look right on the money).

Most people wouldn't even notice the difference between an X-Wing and an E-Wing. Fans on the other hand would love to see a new modernised model of the E-Wing with new ideas taken from modern day aeronautics. I'd love to see an E-Wing with an adaptive morphing wing and visible thrust vectoring in dogfight maneuvers.

At least Filoni's upcoming series will have a brand new design for the Resistance. :)

Let us not forget that Galaxy's Edge is also giving us a freaking beautiful Resistance transport

FYI, you probably shouldn't embed images direct from wiki pages, there is an anti-hotlinking feature that shrinks them considerably.

    I don't think so.

They did however modify the design because of toys. Originally the missiles were going to fire from somewhere else on the ship, but one of the prototype toys had it come from the wings, Rian liked that so he had them change it in the movie.

Wouldn't be the first time apparently, according to Wookiepedia, one of the rebel characters in the OT was given a beard because the toy of him had one.

Edit: Whoops, sorry for the double post. I'd fix it, but there doesn't seem to be a delete button.

I always saw it as front on the right, engines on the left, ship facing away.

Art of the Sacheen-class light escort according to one of the WEG game books covering The Courtship of Princess Leia, Black Fleet Crisis and Corellian Insurrection trilogy.

The art of the New Class ships (and the Belarus-class medium cruiser and Corona-class star frigate) always bugged me as well.

Sure, those BFC designs are mostly Godawful. But for us older Fleet Junkies, the stuff in Cracken's Threat Dossier is kinda nostalgic. :p

Trust me- the Sacheen-class light escort may be bland, but at least she isn't hideous. I'm looking at you, original Endurance-class fleet carrier and Belarus-class medium cruiser. [face_bleh]

I will forever dislike this version of the ship:

Yeah it was bad. I did like how the new version kept the hanger bay control towers though.

Then Endurance and Nebula renditions in the EGTW were one of the high-water mark achievements of both Legends starship design and the influence of this thread.

I find it very disappointing that all those new ships from BFC never really got used again.

IIRC, the Endurances was name dropped in either Specter of the Past or Visions of the Future. As part of a planetary fleet that the Diamala or some other race deployed during the crisis.

    Specter of the Past:

"A dozen other governments have filed notice with the Senate that they're going to be presenting their own lists of demands against the Bothans."
    "Or else?"
Leia shrugged. "That's the implied threat."
Han made a rude noise in the back of his throat "You know what high esteem I hold the Bothans in, hon, but this is getting ridiculous. I suppose Fey'lya's screaming to Gavrisom for protection?"
"He doesn't have to," Leia told him. "The Diamala and Mon Calamari have announced they're sending ships to defend Bothawui against any further aggression."
Han whistled under his breath. "You're kidding. What kind of ships?"
"Big ones," Leia said. "Star Cruisers from the Mon Cals, some Nebula and Endurance-class warships from the Diamala. They say they're protecting the rights of the innocent. Others are saying they're just the latest victims of Bothan manipulation."

See, if there wasn't disproportionate focus on the Mon Cal parts of the navy, we would actually see some of these other ships. But the go-to is a Mon Cal cruiser, or variants of them, a light form of creative sterility.
