For Anyone Who Thinks ESB Is Kind Of Overrated

Personally, I enjoyed ANH more than ESB. Yes ESB was darker, and we found out who fathered luke, but it didn't really have a end of movie climax. I mean, its Star Wars, so I still like it, but its just not my favorite.

Anyone Else?

I just think ROTJ is underrated.

 

The only reason someone might not like ESB, is because it doesnt really "fit in" with the rest of the saga. There are flaws in every Star Wars movie.


Except ESB.


Its the only movie that puts AS MUCH emphasis on story, characters, and acting as it does on FX. There is a balance of these 4 elements. In most of the others, the balance is a little tipped.

Little about it could be more perfect. (Original version, of course.)

 

I'm with you Darth_Droideka. ANH and AOTC are both better than ESB, in my opinion.

 

In your opinion it is, it doesn't neccessarily mean its overrated. It is actually the best made one, just maybe not the 'coolest' or most ground-breaking.

ESB overrated? Nay is my vote. TTT gets my vote.

ESB is kinda overrated, but it's still my 2nd favorite.

ANH is my favorite. It's sense of adventure puts it on top IMO.

 

ESB is one of the most overrated flicks ever.

Sure, Yoda is cool. And the whole Cloud City Luke/Vader bit kicks arse.

But ... the space slug / mynock scene? The horrible-looking tauntauns? The badly developed romance? (Yes, it had better dialogue than AOTC's romance, but it seemed like it was tacked-on and had no reason to exist.)

I like ANH, then AOTC, then ROTJ... then and only then comes ESB.
(And then TPM. But that is a post for another time.)

ESB is not overrated. It gets so much praise for a good reason. It's the best film of all time.

 

Aww, poor Star Wars boys don't like it when their precious movie gets picked on.

If you love ESB, you don't have to come in here.

 

I don't think it's overrated, I just think it is wrongly assumed to be the best movie in the saga.

Well i have a criticism about ROTJ which far exceeds any criticism of ESB.

When Chewbacca is swinging on the rope/vine while fighting the stormtroopers. he makes a cound like tarzan. now tell me that doesnt take away from the star wars spirit when you hear tarzan!

 

Lets not forget the tennis shoe on Endor either!

Empire Strikes Back has one of the coolest battles. Snow Wars!! I think it would have been funny if they showed a frustrated rebel throwing snowballs at snowtroopers.

Plus it introduces even neater starships. The Executor anyone? And you get to watch Vader choke two people in that move when he only got to slightly choke Motti in ANH.

The Empire gets to kick rebel butt big time too!

The only downside to the movie are the Yoda/Luke scenes. Not much action but alot of philosophy. That can get boring.

 

Overrated?

Ok, in my humble opinion, take ESB out of the Star Wars Saga equation, and what's left?

 

Well, take any of the 6 films out of the saga and you'll have a similar effect.

I love ESB, the only thing that disappoints me is when it's held up as a gold standard of everything a SW film should be. If anything, it gave some people totally the wrong idea about SW.
