For the Hand of the Princess (The Bachelor: Medieval Style)

And, so it came to pass, that King Isaac could find no suitable suitor for his lovely daughter, the Princess Isabelle, in all of his land, the land of Ichstor. There was no royalty, there was no knight, there was no soldier, there was no priest, there was no wizard and there was no commoner worthy of her beauty who had presented himself to the King. Many were intimidated by her beauty, for she had divine locks of brown, wavy and long, stretching almost the entirety of her back, accompanied by deep brown eyes a man could be lost in for days, and a shape so wonderful it could only have been crafted by a god. Others were intimidated by her wealth, for the Kingdome she would inherit stretched further than any eye could see, and contained more lakes, rivers, farms, and mines than any in the village could count. Others, yet, were intimidated by her wisdom, for her father had provided her with the best education over her nineteen year life.

Others, still, were simply not good enough. Regardless of their thoughts.

And, yet, as his age increased and his only offspring remained unwed, the King had a marvelous idea. Let us have a contest for the hand of my daughter. And so he sent out the fastest riders he had, traveling in sixty-four directions. They would carry news of a contest, open to any man of adult age, regardless of class, citizenship, race, nationality, wealth, career, or any other factor.

The contest, he knew, would have to be exhausting, if it were to find the perfect mate for his daughter. So he entrusted his wisest elder, his bravest knight, his strongest brute, and his best wizard to devise points of the contest to challenge the wit, will, skill, strength, courage, endurance, and commitment of the men who would compete for his daughter's hand.

And he waited, for the men to show. For then, he could judge them. Then, he could put them through contests. And then, he could find the best man for his daughter, and find a suitable heir to his throne. And then, he could know that his legacy would be in order.

But who will answer the call?


This RPG is a reality-show based RPG combining elements of the Apprentice, Survivor, Dream Job and the Bachelor. You are invited to play and to attempt to (literally) win the hand of young Princess Isabelle. Here is the structure of the game:

The King will announce the giver of a task. The task will either be for reward, or for elimination (or safety from elimination). The givers from the task will be any one or any combination of: his elder, his knight, his brute, or his wizard. At the time the task is announced, a time table for completing the task will be given. This will typically range from 72 hour to a week, although it may fluctuate based on the flow of the game at that point in time.

These tasks will be used to eliminate the players until only one is left, and is given the hand of the Princess in marriage.

Some Questions you may have

Is it necessary for you to participate in every task?

No.

I understand that sometimes circumstances cause us to be away from the boards (and our RPGs) for a few days, and so every participant is given the ability to "skip" two tasks without penalty. Missing more than two can result in the King dismissing you from the game.

Is it possible to enter the game after it begins?

Yes, it can be made possible, through mechanics like "play-in" opportunities, at the GM's discretion. These will be rare, but the possibility exists.

Does that mean it's possible to reenter the game after elimination?

Yes, but that will be even rarer.

Can we have more than one character?

Yes, have as many as you want.

Equipment: Wields a wooden staff that he's still carving into a design. When finished, it should be able to harness more magic than he currently wields.
Why do you desire the Princess' hand?: Due to Ascanthia's proximity to Ichstor, he's always been a fan of the Princess. A fanboy if you will. The closet in his room has a hidden shrine to her visits to his country.
Brief Bio: Born to common parents, it was either take on the family business of farming or become an apprentice to the local Sorcerer. He was never very good with the animals, the cows would stampede away from him nearly everytime he came near them, so he was taken in by the apprentice. There he was given not only study in the magical arts, but also in several other subjects that provided him with an above average education. He is a promising student, however he hasn't learned how to "double cast" and thus must make up new versions of spells in order to use their fuctionality. He also tends to accidentally cast spells when extremely nervous.

Why do you desire the Princess' hand: He spent the first five years of his life with his noble parents living in the castle of Ichstor. He grew up as a playmate of the Princess and, even at that young age, harbored a crush on her. However, they lost contact when his parents took him to Eternai to become a member of their famoust Black Riders. With the news of the contest, his interests have come back.
Brief Bio: Born to Noble parents in Ichstor, he grew up as one of many children who lived in the castle. He was a friend of the Princess. However, his parents didn't want him to join the Ichstor army and determined that, if they're son was to be a Knight, he would belong to the best in the world: The Eternai Black Riders. So they took him away from his friends, his life, and placed him into a Squireship. Over time, he grew into his new life and forgot about the life he once had. He has recently risen to Knight-hood.

Why do you desire the Princess' hand?: Having seen Isabelle from afar, Aiden knew he should be charged with her protection and safekeeping.
Brief Bio: Aiden is what is known in the Wizarding world as a Manipulator. Unlike many spell casters who rely on set incantations and their own magical ability, Aiden utilizes the world around him. For example: Where as normal Sorceror would merely use a spell to conjure a whirlwind, Aiden will instead commune with the element, coaxing it into doing his will instead. This method of magic does not disturb the world around him, and offers him unlimited possibilites.

He was trained in a far away land to use magic and to fight. Aiden hired himself out as a Protector, and made a living escorting wealthy men and women from his country. It was this occupation that had first given him the name Isabelle. He heard only whispers of her beauty, faint conversations of her riches. Aiden became curious, and made it his mission to lay his own eyes upon this girl. He got his chance after escorting a family to her kingdom. He kept to the shadows for days, until finally he caught a glimpse of Isabelle.

He was stunned. Rumors of her beauty had not done her justice. He knew immediately that he would protect her. That he must. The King was holding a contest of sorts, in the hopes of having a worthy man win the woman's hand. Though Aiden didn't agree with the idea, he entered the contest without hesitation.

GM OOC:

This is not a game-opening post. What it is, is a chance for character development and a chance to get ahead in the game for those who wish to take advantage of it. Consider it something of a reward for those willing to sign-up early. Participation is completely optional, but you can gain valuable insight about your character, the game, and the Princess through participation, so it is recommended. That said, have fun with this, if you wish.

Location: Castle Gardens, directly in front of the castle, at the entrance

Sir Robin had been sent by the King himself as one to greet the contestants as they arrived. He was to be the beacon of the castle, the King, and the entire kingdom to those who wished to have the Hand of the Princess and be the heir to all that the King had.

Accompanying Robin to the gardens were three men of honor, and several servants and handmaidens. The three men of honor were Roberto, head chef at the castle who had prepared a feast to welcome the contestants. The feast had enough food to feed hundreds, if not a thousand, but would be there for the contestants and the Castle people only. In the feast were lamb, rice, potatoes, pork, all kinds of vegetables, bread, wine, ale, and cheeses. It was there in abundance, proudly presented by Roberto, who had now served the king for 20 years in his position.

Joining Roberto were Jonathon, his son and apprentice, and Rahne, the Princess' most trusted handmaiden. These two were to assist both Roberto and Sir Robin in their duties of greeting and feeding the contestants. There were another six of the Princess' handmaidens, as well as twenty-four of the kings best servants.

The King would spare no expense in ensuring the success of this contest, for with that he ensured the future of his kingdom.

Sir Robin stood guard, waiting for the contestants to arrive.

Sigarni arrived at the front of the castle gate. She swung off her horse and bowed to the knight. "Hello,my name is Charles Bowin. I am here for the contest." she said.

Her voice was still a little off but mostly covered. Her amour covered all signs of being a girl.

The first contestant arrived. Name was Charles Bowin. Seemed like a young keed, and quite eager. Sir Robin smiled as he welcomed the young lad.

"Good sir, it is my duty, my honor, and my privelage to welcome you to Ischtor!" Robin's voice was proud and boastful, flowing with confidence. He had a great pride in his land, his kingdom, and his king, and it showed as he spoke. "Make this place your home, as it will be until you are eliminated. One of the servants will take your horse to the stable, and you should partake of the feast. The king is quite proud of his chef, who is quite proud of this feast. Eating it will honor the king. Later, the handmaidens and servants will show you to your quarters. If you have need of anything, do not hesitate to ask."

Sir Robin extended his hand in a welcoming gesture, hoping the young lad would enter in and be welcomed by all.

Sigarni took the knights hand. It appeared he bought her facade. "Thank you Sir." she said in her fake voice.

Then she handed off Moon's(her horse) rein's to a servant and entered the castle. Once inside her voice changed dramatically. "Wow,this place is huge." she said in her normal voice,which was very feminie.

Sigarni made her was to the dinning hall. She almost exclaimed again but remembered she was in charater. 'this is amazing' she thought.
