Force Lightning is useless at higher levels! And it doesn't conform to the movies!

The GM that runs our game has adopted this revision for Force Lightning.

Check: A Force Lightning check sets the DC for the target's Reflex saving throw the same as in the Revised Core Book. On a failed save, a target takes 1d8 points of vitality damage for every FS level of the user. On a successful save, a target takes only half damage.

Example: The Emporer listed in the Revised Core Book is a Noble 4/Dark Side Devotee 6/Sith Lord 10. At the begining of Episode VI he would be able to do 16d8 vitality damage with Force Lightning.

I think that the VP cost to use this was raise to 8-10 VP.
Use of this skill still gains you a DSP.

The D6 version isn't specifically blockable with a lightsaber, but it can be resisted with the Absorb Energy power and it's just a matter of descriptive flavour having the Jedi using his lightsaber to catch the bolts when he does this.

Given that Palpatine has 14D alter and a mountain of DSPs (WEG were overgenerous with DSPs for antagonists, especially non-Force Sensitives who by the rules only got DSPs under very limited circumstances, but in the case of Palpatine I think any number is probably justifiable - 36 comes to mind for some reason) Luke must have rolled phenomenally well on Absorb Energy even using a Force point. :)

dsps only boost your force skills up until the dark side consumes you, so its only the 14D that count unless he spent any forcepoints/character points,

Well, the Emperor was kinda ticked. He might have decided to really torture Luke to vent rather than just fry him with a single zap.

In zahrist russia, there was a punishment called the knout. It was a thick rope whip. Fast stokes were painful and tore open the back. Slow strokes could kill with a single blow.
