Is it just me or does Yoday in AOTC sound compeltely different then the past movies???

I wonder if Frank Oz still really is doing the voice for Yoda anymore.

    Any Thoughts??

It is Frank. You can see him recording in "From Puppets to Pixels".

Yoda doesn't sound any different to me.

    Frank Oz it still is.

And on a side note, seeing Yoda's voice coming out of his mouth (and not Yoda's) is a freakin' spooky thing.

I keep thinking maybe the 'real' Yoda is talking off-camera and he's just lip-syncing to it.

Yeah,it's still Frank. :) To me he sounds about like he did in TPM,I think he sounds differant in the ESB,and ROTJ because he's 26 years older. :)

Exactly. Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) sounds different as well. People's voices change as they age....

Yes Frank Oz is still Yoda. Now they use CGI
to create the physical body of Yoda and Frank Oz adds everything else to it.

I know what you mean, the first line he speaks in AOTC sounds a lot lower than we are used to. I noticed it on my first showing of AOTC.

    Maybe because he's younger?

    I don't know but that's still Frank.

Frank's voice was a tiny bit shaky in a few scenes in Attack of the Clones, particularly towards the beginning, where it sounds more like somebody trying to do a bad impression of Yoda, but mainly Yoda's voice sounded exactly how it did in Empire Strikes Back, which was great. :D

I think he sounds so different because he is older, yes, and also because he was at home when he recorded it, and not in a real "acting" position--like in the OT. I think that kind of took away from it. But I was still satisfied. With the years between the OT and the PT, the differences in his voice kind of works it all out in my opinion.

I have the feeling Yoda's lines were recorded in a studio in the old movies too.

I have the feeling Yoda's lines were recorded in a studio in the old movies too.

    I'll bet anything they were.

Movies do a LOT of ADR (recording voices afterwards). Frank Oz was probably trapped under a panel or something to puppeteer Yoda... not the most optimal recording position. They record him anyway just to get a reference track, and record it later.

And this is not a unique-to-Lucas phenomenon. Sometimes it's just too windy to get the right sound... or you can't get the microphone in because it's a wide shot... etc. etc.

    Movies... 24 lies per second.

Recorded at home? I don't think so, in that video I think they just needed his voice for a short while (to stand in) until they can get him actually in the studio for it.

I don't know...to me Yoda's voice sounds different in ESB than it does in any of the others. I can imagine, however, that Yoda's voice is hard to do consistently, especially since (as it has been pointed out) Mr. Oz is a good deal older. If you watch the DVD documentary, I believe Frank messes up a few times. Anyway, in ESB it seems like "serious" Yoda's voice is sometimes a good deal lower than normal.

I think he sounds similar enough that most people won't notice. Well, if Frank Oz dies or something before he does his lines for Episode III, I'll send a recording to George Lucas showing my talent. Not to brag, but I can sound EXACTLY like Yoda.

(No, I don't plan on killing Frank Oz for his part) ;)
