is there and free software that converts avi, mpeg, mov, wmv, and such? there's one called WinMPG but it's like $20.

look into VirtualDub and VirtualDubMpg2... these will do what you want.

 

i checked virtualdub, but it only did avis and mpegs. i need to be able to change movs into avis or mpegs.

 

your best bet is something that costs. I dont know of any free utility that will do it for you. You can use QuickTime pro or premiere or after-effects... or really any editing or compositing tool that will load mov and save something else.

 

Check out Video Help, it will give you all the info you need to do whatever you want (with video conversion that is).

 

Is there anything close to Adobe After Effects?

 

i don't have after effects, but i use image ready. it comes "free" with adobe photoshop.

Threads can't "get stickied" they must be started that way by a mod. And the existing sticky covers a lot of this stuff, I think. If not, feel free to post some of these links there.

But I agree that we need this info to be common knowledge.
