Someone please explain to me why anyone should feel the need to be "faithful" to what were essentially 20 minute toy commercials. G.I. Joe is a horrible cartoon, which has spawned countless more horrible cartoons. Saying that the initial attempt at a movie is a letdown somehow is like saying you hope the new Battleship movie sticks to the plot of the original board game.

I'm hoping he was talking about the rather good Marvel series (actually the origin of the whole ARAH line, originally a Nick Fury series pitched by Larry Hama).

The last thing I want is for the movie to be faithful to the original cartoon. I want Larry Hama to go up to the director, punch him in the face, and sit in his chair.

To be fair, Hama was involved in the first movie...

He was a consultant, that they didn't consult very much with. The studio just wanted to throw his name out to appease some fans.

The first film I was actually surprised by. Not that it was great, but it did not suck as much as I thought it would. I was hoping they would take that and run but it appears they hav gone with makin a Rock and Bruce Willis film.

Are you sure of that? He seemed pretty proud of that mess of a movie.

Besides changing out the techno theme song and the avalanche scene I don't think there is anything new on there.

The bugs, super weapon war room discussions and pre-strike chit-chat are new.

What most people are upset about is that the Comic Books has a fairly well-developed story and world. In fact, several characters (including Baroness) were created in the comics, and then adapted into toys and then the cartoon. This is the cannon that many are upset to see defecated on by talentless hacks.
Hana was brought in as a token gesture, then completely ignored to the point that he was quoted by one of the entertainment "insider" magazines.
Best thing they could do with this movie is pretend the first one never existed.

Call me a sucka, but I enjoyed the first movie for the popcorn shoot em up action fest that it was. I wasn't looking for an oscar contender and won't be again. If people would just let go of the dream fan fic in their head, they might enjoy these. I am looking forward to alot more explosions. GO JOE.

Transformers is enjoyable as a dumb action fest despite it's failings as an entry/user of the franchise's storytelling potential.

By contrast, the first Joe movie is absolutely awful, regardless of preconceived expectations for the franchise (which were far lower than TFs, for example).

Thankfully, that seems the way they approached the sequel (minus Snake-Eyes & Zartan)... well, at least until these reshoots.

Transformers made the American Pie movies (the first 2 anyway) seem like towering giants of intellectual brilliance. Short of making them (even more) pornographic, I cannot imagine a worse entry (no pun intended). I suppose if they ran around on My Little Ponies and had tea with Cabbage-patch kids... No, that would have been better.

The mountain scene looks pretty cool. I just hope they did the post-converted 3D right.

So who's playing Cobra Commander now? I assume it isn't JGL

I think I read somewhere that Cobra Commander is going to be played by the guy who played Captain Robau in Star Trek '09 and the Ten Rings leader in Iron Man.

I had heard it was Faran Tahir.....best known to American audiences as Ten Rings commander Raza from Iron Man.

Eccleston isn't in it either it seems. I've forgotten what happened to him at the end of the first movie (only seen it the one time) but I don't recall him dying.

Are characters likely to just be left out with no explanation? I assume there will be a reason given for Storm Shadow not being dead anymore or is part 1 just being ignored totally?

They put him and Jason X Commander in some kind of carbon freeze/cryosleep chamber.

LOL. No wonder...they got Keith "Go Navy" David doing the voiceover.
