Did you know that the word "ada" is Sindarin for father (Sindarin is the elven language from The Lord Of The Rings.)

I, too, wonder who or what Piggwei is. I'm guessing an imaginary friend, but with Obi who knows? :) I love the beginning, where Qui didn't really think about considering the Temple home until Obi. Those kinds of little insights really add to your writing.

Wonderful job! Little Obi is so cute! [face_love]

Congradulations, P_A. The award is well deserved.

Now, when do we get another glimpse of Obi-Wan and Piggwei?

That was too cute, P_A . . . I've always been a sucker for li'l!Obi, as well as mush. [image=http://members.aol.com/opheliamac/mush.jpg] Have you ever seen "Lone Wolf and Cub," a Japanese comic/live action show about a widower Samurai wandering the countryside with his infant son? I've always thought that idea had a lot of potential. And that's not just because the kid's got a boobytrapped baby carriage. :p I'm interested to see how Qui-Gon and wee Obi manage to deal with Jedi life . . . and I'm not sure I even want to know what Piggwei is. :p I have this mental image of him as a pet slug or something that's slithered down into the grass.

Now *that* would be different . . . a story about Qui-Gon, three-year-old Obi-Wan, and their pet slug Piggwei. Somehow I don't think any of this would go over well in diplomatic circles.

So...When will there be an update?

Wait a minute....This looks suspiciously like an update of P_A's that I haven't read! Shame on me! I ask, as the 'I'll let this three-year old youngling wonder around in a garden filled with poisonous plantation' Padawan did, for forgiveness. (I am not at all upset that he let Obi-Wan do that. Afterall, injuries lead to nursing! Nursing to mush! Mush to more mush! Mush :D!)

As ever you write Qui-Gon with explicit beauty and ease, crafting him in such a manner that it is impossible to think he would be any other way. I am guessing that Pigwee is an animal of some kind? something emitting a low amount of Force that would be unusual for a child his age to detect? (If this is wrong the crystal ball is going to be sent to bed early with no dinner. Bad crystal ball.)

Gah! I missed a great story.

    From post one:
Obi-Wan?s face fell ludicrously, and Qui-Gon wondered what had gone wrong.
?Learn moe?? he asked, voice trembling. ?Mush, mush moe?? He flapped his arms about for good measure, considerably dismayed at the amount of learning Qui-Gon apparently thought he had to do.

    I can just see that!

    Second post:

The sparkling Crown Jewels of Naboo?famed land of riches and royalty?were known for their prized possession of a pair of emeralds. It was said that the Court?s Jewellers took great pride in maintaining their sparkling sheen, and that the jewels were on public display only when a queen was elected to the throne. ...
Those jewels, his mind vaguely thought, were nothing to the emeralds in the boy?s face.

Rarely had he seen eyes that reached for his own, broke through his warrior?s defences, and dove down?deep into him. Perhaps it was just a trick of the light. Perhaps it was the pain the child felt, the shock and dismay that flickered in his eyes, those eyes that shimmered and sparkled, with a slight sheen of tears, like shimmer-stones on soft velvreen. Perhaps he had just been caught in his most vulnerable moment.

Perhaps this was what the Force had intended for him to see.

    What a neat description!

Thanks to all those who replied and 'up'ped. Here's the next Snippet:

    *********

    Snippet 3

Almost immediately after he had made the decision to escort the child to the Infirmary, he began to question the possibility of doing such a thing. Various instances of children he had seen?Jedi younglings not excluded?had inculcated the firm belief in him, that such young ones were usually a member of some kind of extremely wriggling species, who later conformed to human standards, more or less. They had curious tendencies to laugh, cry, vomit, spill, and generally make things rather difficult for the adults in questions, unless they were child protégés in good manners?and such a thing wasn?t very likely.

He had, however, taken matters into his own hands?quite literally?and borne away Kenobi without relinquishing his burden to others, notably padawan Wygun, whose real responsibility the child had been. And it was becoming rather difficult to keep referring to the boy as ?Child?, or ?Kenobi.? He had another name.

He looked down into the eyes of his charge again, wondering if he had done the right thing, after all. Where was the crèche-master, in any case? He inspected the palm Kenobi kept cradled against his chest, his face scrunched up in pain. Involuntarily, he placed a finger on the boy?s temple, sending a small wave of healing warmth.

Instead of relaxing, as he might have hoped, Kenobi?s eyes widened. He sensed the sharp distress a second before a frightened wail escaped the boy.
Then began a protracted episode of much wriggling, squirming, and general discomfort that forced Qui-Gon to stop short in the middle of a perfectly trimmed pathway, and try to pacify the boy as best as he could. Finally, he knelt on the mossy ground, setting the boy down too.

?Child,? he murmured. ?Quiet now. I am only trying to get you to the Infirmary. I will not hurt you.?

?Pwease,? mumbled the boy, his face streaked with tears as he wiggled out of Qui-Gon?s hold. The Master let him go, waiting to see what he would do. The boy took a step on the pathway, swayed, and then landed on the ground abruptly. He turned towards Qui-Gon, large eyes brimming with a sort of hopelessness, and his lower lip came out in a pout. A large tear rolled down his smooth cheek.

This time, he began to cry in earnest.

Qui-Gon looked at him for a moment. Then, he pulled off the com-link attached to his belt, and activated the call-button that alerted the temple?s Infirmary. A crisp, business-like voice answered him, identifying itself as Assistant Healer Bodoi.

?Master Jinn, here. I have with me a two year old who is hurt?he?s pricked his hand on a Gorei bush. I was bringing him down to the Infirmary, but he seems to be in discomfort.?

There was a pause from the healer, the reasons for which Qui-Gon was well aware of?Gorei bushes were situated in areas two year old initiates could have no access to. Someone had been careless, it seemed.

    ?Can he walk??

?No. I was carrying him. I tried to project some healing energy, but that seems to have had?? Qui-Gon paused. ??adverse effects. He began to experience some discomfort. I believe he is dizzy.? He looked at the child, who was still sitting on the pathway forlornly, trying in vain to rub away his tears with the back of his uninjured palm. He tried to raise himself on his knees, but sat down on his rear again, with a bump. Almost despite himself, Qui-Gon?s lips twitched.

?Master Jinn?? This time, the healer?s voice was alert. ?What is this initiate?s name??

?Kenobi, I think.? Qui-Gon reached a hand towards the little boy, wiping away the still falling tears. ?Just a moment.? He ignored the child?s mumbling speech, and picked him up again. ?I?m afraid I didn?t grasp his first name??

?Kenobi?? It was rather difficult to hear, with a little boy sobbing on his shoulders. ?Obi-Wan Kenobi??

    ?You know him??

?Certainly. Please bring him in as soon as you can. Do you need any assistance??

Qui-Gon looked the child?s face, now exhausted with pain and distre

Also poor Qui-Gon - it's starting to dawn on him what he's let himself in for. :D

This was quite adorable but what is Obi-Wan seeing that makes him want Piggwei? And what is that anyway? Is he seeing something from the past or the future? Some one that he may need.

Poor Qui-Gon, getting out-manuevered by the adorable Obi-Wan.

    And what does Mace want????

    Looking forward to more.

?Not im-im-imigery,? Obi-Wan said, his brows contracting into a frown. ?Reee-al.? he bowed his head. ?He awone. Wike me.?
