This is going by the rules of the boards, so opinions are unnecessary.

Merlin . . . you have to announce if you haven't read the books. How are we to know. And the show is coming from the books, which everyone will be talking about. It is folly to participate in discussion where it will be rife, and horrific hindrance if one cannot.

Unless, of course, you get a Game of Thrones - HBO - No spoiler thread.

I've read the books. I'm concerned about giving away important plot points (such as Eddard's death by execution) to people who haven't read the books, but are interested in the HBO series. It's a matter of courtesy and consideration.

The red bolded portion below is added for emphasis.

Snap. Enjoy your dish of cold crow, timmoishere.

I would say that it falls under the category of blatantly obvious material.

This is where opinions come into play, which you disavowed as "unnecessary" in your previous post.

You only believe it's "blatantly obvious" because you've read the books. Many other people haven't. "Blatantly obvious" plot points are those which a non-fan or average person would know without even having seen the movie or read the book.

"Vader is Luke's father." "The Titanic sinks at the end." "Frodo tries to keep the Ring and Gollum bites his finger off before plummeting to his doom."

"Eddard Stark is decapitated at the Lannister brat's urging" is not a "blatantly obvious" plot point to the general public.

"Err on the side of courtesy." That's all I'm suggesting here.

Mods, if we could get a ruling on this? Thanks.

One thread spoilers, one thread no spoilers. Simple. ;)

I can see both sides of the argument here. I have read the books each twice so I know what happens but there will be alot of people that will watch the show without ever having read the books, so I say black outs would be cool with me.

Excellence makes a good point as well with two threads but that might get to be to clutered for some. I am happy either way, I just want to see the damn show already!!!! lol

If you have one threead, there will be alot of people having black out every little thing. You literally cannot talk this topic without spoilers. It's sensible -- and fair -- to have 2 threads.

Sean Bean as Eddard Stark would be a coup. He'd bring in fans of the LOTR films while giving a strength and vulnerability to this unique character.

Yes, I must admit I did not consider Bean a likely contender for the part, but interestingly enough my main hope/wish was Pierce Brosnan. And of course, as you may be aware, Bean and Brosnan not only shared the screen as 00 agents in Goldeneye, but Bean himself was once considered for the role of James Bond. Now I think of it, Timothy Dalton would make a good Ned Stark, too, so apparently any 40+ male English actor who could pass for Mr. Bond is more or less right for the part. ;)

    Mark Addy is Robert Baratheon

    [image=http://www.queermusings.net/weblog/images/2008/09/17/harry_lloyd.jpg]
    Harry Lloyd is Viserys Targaryen

I can't find images of Kit Harrington, who's playing Jon Snow, or Jack Gleeson, who's playing Joffrey Lannister.

Hmm... really not sure about Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon - especially opposite Sean Bean.

This is Kit Harrington - he's a London West End actor on stage, recently did a turn in War Horse.

The image is from GRRM's livejournal page.

I'm willing to pass judgement on Addy until we actually see him. I think he'll do fine in sequences where King Rob is fairly happy and jovial, but not sure how he'll do in situations where he has to act serious, such as at the Hands Tournament or when he slaps Cersei.

Lloyd and Harrington seem to be good fits physically for their roles - particularly Lloyd with that evil grin. I can picture him easily torturing and threatening his sister about waking the dragon.

I can't wait for this. I will be getting HBO just for this. Sean Bean as Ned Stark is definitely a good one.

Well, now back to A Storm of Swords.

Not sure about the guy playing Robert, but I'm definitely liking the look of the rest of the cast so far.

Yeah the actor that plays Robert is more of a funny comedian actor right?

The actors for Jorah, Robb, Arya and Jaime look the part. The others are a little bit iffy (although that's probably not the best picture of the girl they got for Sansa), but, at the end of the day, if they can act worth a damn, that's all that matters.
