    Can. Not. Wait.

    However...

...Asterix and Obelix? They're not really mythological characters. And if so, shouldn't there be some Celtic gods to match them?

I'm not sure I understand this entire concept of the dieties fighting 'through' the regular combatants. I don't know a while lot about mythology, which probbably would explain my confusion, but from what I can tell, all of the dieties have different powers. Does that just mean that the regular fighters would just... get these powers for the fight? How would the dieties fight through the regulars? Or is that up to us, or the judges, to interpret?

Just for a quick (and obvious) example, Zeus can throw 'lightning bolts' at people. Would that mean that whoever was paired with Zeus would automatically have that ability as well? Or... something like that?

    I'd assume so.

Say you had Hector. Not great on his own, but you have Hephaestus as one of your deites, and you aligned them. Now, Hector would get better armor and weapons that would help him in his fights.

Or you had Atalanta, and aligned her with Apollo. She would get accelerated healing and greater accuracy.

My good man Kypt here has it dead set straight. Add in Zizz's line after Kypt's examples: "Or is that up to us, or the judges, to interpret? " ...and you have the basis of how this will run. How the GM's argue/put forth plausible situations with their deities will greatly influence the results of matches.

I'm sorry, but it's nigh impossible to not find some of my twisted humour even in a draft list. [face_laugh]

I was curious if anybody would, ah, mention them. Celtic... know anything about the mythology? I don't. Would any of these be good to add to the list?

If we can have Asterix and Obelix, can we have Getafix? He'd be awesome in teams.

    So no. :p

Do we even want Asterix and Obelix seriously?

Thanks for clearing up the Gorgon question.

Also, I see the Fates are on the deities list. Do they really count? If they do, can we have the Norse Norns as well - Urd, Skuld and Verdandi? How about the Furies - maybe as a trio, as you never see them separately?

And if we can't have Asterix and Obelix, I at least want Toutatis (war god IIRC) and Taranis (thunder god) on the list.

    EDIT:

Celtic myth-figures seem to be lacking. I compiled a (shortish) list of possibles with the aid of my trusty Dictionary of Mythology :)

    Heroes

    Fergus Mac Roth
Finn McCool (no relation to Droopy)
    Oisin
    Oscar
    Cu Chulainn
    Conall
    Diarmuid ua Duibhne
    Queen Medb
    Naoise Mac Usnach
Brian, Iuchar, Iucharba (the sons of Tuireann)
    Partholon
    Scathach
    banshees
    Bran the Navigator
    Mael Duin
    Pwyll
    Amairgen
    Arawn

and because they're definitely not real, but possibly not strictly mythological:

    Myrddin / Merlin
    Vivian
    Morgana la Fay
    Artos / Arthur
    Mordred
    Culhwch
    Bedwyr / Bedivere
    Peredur / Percival
    Gereint
    Gawain
    Gareth
    Lancelot
    Tristan

    Deities / Immortals

Nimue - the Lady of the Lake
    Taranis
    Toutatis
    Belenos (Bel)
    Dagda
    Balor
    Lir
    Aengus Og
    Dana (Irish) / Don (Welsh)
    Manannan (Irish) / Manawydan (Welsh)
    Lugh (Irish) / Lleu (Welsh)
Macha & Nemain (usu seen together)
    Babd
    Morrigan
Nuada (Irish) / Nudd (Welsh) / Nodens (British Celtic)
    Ogma
    Sadb
    Epona
    Amaethon
    Brigid

Thoughts from the powers that be?

Ooo, the Furies would be good.

I don't know too much about Celtic mythology, unfortunately, but comments on the ones I recognize:

Cu Chulainn -- yesyesyes. Think Achilles but without the heel problem.
Bran the Navigator -- personnal fan; he can fight, I believe, and he sailed around for years . . . semi-immortal, I believe
Arawn -- that would certainly make this more interesting :D
Authurian legends -- if you're going to use any of them, pick Morgan le Fey/Merlin and Authur/Lancelot/Tristan
Nimue - the Lady of the Lake -- extremely powerful, and has the Sword
Morrigan -- goddess of death; yes
Epona -- goddess of horses (also known as Rhiannon)
Brigid -- brilliant with a bow
    Dana -- powerful goddess
    Manannan mac Lir
    Aengus Og

Yes, the Fates are there, as they are an interesting lot more than anything else. Would the Norns be a useful addition? And the Furies (Erinyes?) - from a quick check they look like they have the potential to be added....

    What mythology is this?

And to your list... firstly, Celtic figures aren't lacking per se; they simply aren't there at all. Hence my comment after Kypt mentioned the mythology before. About your list, first thought: awesome. Second though: yeah, let me check them up and I'll get back to you since I have no clue at the moment. :p

More additions is great, though. :D

Wow, I can't believe I overlooked Celtic Mythology.

Anyways, nice list there with the Celts, they've always been a favorite along with the Norse.

We could always dip into LotR also, Tolken intended it to be a British Mythology. :-B Though I wouldn't add main characters from the Trilogy, only stuff from the days of the Valor.

    Evil.

Looking forward to it, but I'd still rather have a JC draft.

The LOTR Draft is a possibility all on its own. Although most of the big hitters would be First Agers, so a fair depth of Tolkien geekery would be required :p Maybe not for these forums (fora?)

Also, pursuivant to the Celtic Mythology question, can we have Beowulf and Grendel?

A LOTR draft is kind of like the idea of a Pokemon draft that was tossed around at one stage... it's that much more narrow. If you get my meaning. Requires a specialty in the one area rather than something that is more open across the board.

Beowulf is up there. Grendel is not. What is Grendel? I lacked that information, so I skipped her/it/creature-thing.

Grendel's the monster who comes and eats thanes from Hrothgar's hall. Beowulf goes after it, slays it, slays its mum, steals all its treasure and comes home in triumph :)
