[Game] THE GREAT DEBATE

They did have the option of swapping positions if they wanted. As for how they're assigned, it's all rather random, honestly.

I'm the rabid socialista, and Mr_Moderator gave me the position he did to drive me nuts. Poor JFT just kinda got sucked into the result of roughly a year's worth of IM bickering.

JFT and I did discuss swapping positions, but he was all right with his lot, and I was fatalistic about mine, having suspected it was coming anyway. (Actually, my first guess was "universal health care: against," but this amounts to the same thing.)

Anyway, the first goal of these things is to entertain, and lol@ophelia works for that.

I came in here and saw this and I was incredibly angry because it seemed that the competition was going on behind my back and ophelia won the whole thing, but then I realized that Souderwon finally is back and ready to start hosting again.

 

*chuckle* Yeah. Sorry about that. I had no idea I was going to be stuck in the house that long. I figured I'd be voted out inside a week or two. Oh well.

Next Debate: The Kyoto accords were an excellent first attempt to address the issue of global warming, represented the only reasonable approach to avoiding a future cataclysm, and the US's failure to sign on to the accords was a travesty.

For the purposes of this debate, both players must assume that UN reports on global warming are accurate (though you may disagree with the recommendations). In other words, you're not arguing the facts of global warming--we'll assume that 1) it is happening and 2) mankind is (at least partly) responsible. You are to focus the debate entirely on whether or not the Kyoto accords adequately addressed the global warming issue and whether or not the US should have signed onto the accords.

JediJeffro will be assigned the "For" position (i.e. defends the above statement) and Lord_BlackAdder will be "against".


Reminder: You do have the right to refuse a given debate without penalty once during a season. If you wish to refuse (can't be here, don't like the topic, etc), PM me as soon as possible so that a replacement debater can be named. Indeed, Jello. I still have not heard back from either of the two contestants. JediJeffro has read his PM but has not responded. It is possible that he was trying to work out details with Lord_BlackAdder who has not logged in since the 25th. As such, I'm going to postpone their debate and assign their current argument to the next pair (that'd be you and Jedi_Johnson). After your match, I'll try with the two contestants again and if that doesn't work, then I'll simply scrub them and move on to semi-finals.

I do not have such powers, my friend. But yes, I should probably ask that we swap back. The original thinking was to use him while I was in the BB house through a proxy user. That need no longer exists. I'll send a PM to E_S.
