It's implied that Leonira Taviri is bisexual and Juhani is either bi or lesbian.

The "Juhani = lesbian" is the result of a game glitch. Sad thing is that authors can only get away with hints as a blatantly homosexual character (so many jokes) would freak a lot of people out.

Ferus Olin and his "partner" Roan Lands. Roan seems to do awfully big sacrifices for Ferus to be just a friend.;)

In Planet of Twilight, Admiral Daala refers to Admiral Larm as Moff Getelles' "catamite" - not clear whether she means they're actually lovers, or she's simply saying that they function as a sub/dom same-sex partnership, but it's definately implied...

    Uh, because discrimination is bad?

And where/how is it implied that Moff Tavira is bi? Never read the book(s) with her, and I don't remember it being mentioned before.

Jacen is awestruck by how attractive Brakiss is in 'Shadow Academy' and seems to deveolop a short-lived schoolboy crush on him.

    Define "discrimination".

I don't think it is. I'm rather inclined to believe it's one of McEwok's fantasy theories run amok.

The fact that society is so stacked against homosexuals that people are afraid to write about one in a positive light because people like you would get all in a huff.

I think you're confusing writing about a homosexual in a positive light with writing about homosexuality in a positive light.

Different people around the world have their different morals. Because it's fiction, they want the highest fan base. Those who don't approve of the homosexual lifestyle are not going to enjoy their fiction books with it in it. Some people don't aprove of any violence, therefore wouldn't even pick up a Star Wars book.

People have a right to their morals. Mistreating individuals with different morality then you is discrimination. Choosing not to read about their lifestyles is not.

And supposing that all conceptions of morality are equal, is to have no belief in morality at all.

I agree. There are countries where child pornography is legal. Is it discrimination if I choose not to read about or associate with individuals who indulge in such things?

    I don't think so.

In a word, yes. You are choosing to discriminate amongst what you read and those whom you associate with.

Using the literal definition of the word, you're right. We descriminate every day. About what we eat, drink, who we speak to and who we're attracted to.

The common use of discrimination usually applies to conditions where it shouldn't apply. Employment, rights to medical treatment or education and so on.

I'm sorry, no more derailment from me.

I agree with Sith-Pirate. Regardless of the morality of homosexuality (I have my oppinions on that, but this is neither the proper time, nor the proper place for that discussion.), putting gay characters into the mix only causes problems. The simple fact is, notting having any gay characters will not segregate homosexuals or bisexuals or transexuals or metrosexuals or anyone else. Gay Star Wars fans like it regardless of the sexual orrientation of the characters. Conservative fans will not like gay characters being put in there. Honestly, if they made Jacen hook up with Zekk, for example (you could use any two characters of the same gender), there won't be some huge gay Star Wars rennaissance where homosexuals flock to the book stores to buy as many novels as they can. They may pick up a few new fans, but not enough to really make a difference. However, there would be a sudden loss of conservative fans. So, which would you choose, change things to appease a few fans and lose many, or just keep things the way they are and keep all the fans you already have.

On a side note, I don't think that sexuality should be a major theme in Star Wars. Remember, people of all ages read this stuff. I wouldn't want my little brother to read about the intimate details of Luke and Mara's relationship. IMHO, the envelope has already been pushed a little too far in some EU, especially stuff by Micheal A Stackpole. You'd be surprised how young some of the kids who read this stuff are. Sure things can be implied, like Padmé had to get pregnant somehow, but they don't need to go into detail. If you want this kinda stuff, go read some slash. Let's leave the official stuff alone so everyone can enjoy it. Vergere has created enough contreversy already.
