    BoB, you will be pleased to know that we are indeed co-workers. The good folks at **&* have been very generous in letting me post when I should be working. Shhhh... Besides, what else do I have to do working graveyard?

    LSD, I've been around for a while. Apparently our paths haven't crossed yet. :)

    The most interesting admin-related thing I have is my introduction...or lack thereof. ;)
    I was actually never asked to be an admin, I just logged on one day and was surprised to see my username colored. Surprise! I've been in active duty for a little over a month.

    Mr. K

    I'm not in high school. I'm a college sophmore. And labs interest me alot. It's much better to have hands on learning than boring lectures and slides. I worked in the molecular lab at the Natural History Museum in L.A county. That was really cool. I learned alot about PCRs and identifying nucleotide sequences in the mitochondrial DNA of flies. I think that really helped me figure out that I wanted to be a genetics researcher.

    Wow, I didn't think anyone else here could even hazzard a guess as to what PCR is.

    This was a great idea, Mr K! :)

    Jay, just so you know, polymerase chain reaction is like Lesson #3 in any genetics lab.

    Norman, I've never learned about it in a class or a lab, it's what my mom used to do when she worked at the Liveremore Lab, then she used to teach it at a private company (which is a division, or related somehow to Celera, which, along with the Humane Genome Project, have mapped out about 98% of the Humane genome). Well, anyway, my point is, when I look around and see all the immaturity around here, I get supprised when people know things. :)

    And actually, now that I think about it, I can see why it would be one of the first things you learn. It doesn't really take a lot to run a gel. :)

    To tell you the truth, Jay, I was kinda talking out my ass, but with semi-good reason. I've actually never taken a genetics class, but I have discussed PCR in two unrelated classes. So, I figured if my math class learned it, it probably comes up pretty quickly when you're actually learning genetics.

    And I have no doubt that everyone here knows more about something than I do. Just because they don't teach it in a classroom or it won't get you a better job doesn't make it any less valuable.

    :D I know that there are many people here that know more about some things than I do, but like I said, it still suprises me every once in a while.

    I don't think I've seen so many admins post in the same thread for a long time. It's good to see that they're all still here.

    oh, sorry, i had assumed you were at high school, cos of your age, anyway you foreigners confuse me, what with students being called sophmores, which is first year right? and your crazy term times, like don't you spread term time over two years..what with summer being in the middle of the year (a bad place for it to be in my opinion)
    also here, it seems about half the first years come to be doctors, but by mid year they relise their real calling lies elsewhere, and take up other pursuits like genetics

    anyway...

    Where were you for my fifth year? I was convinced it was commonly referred to as "Loser."

    Nah, words like loser get tacked on to the end of senior.

    5th = Senior Loser
    6th = Senior Lame Brain
    7th = Senior Brain Dead

    etc.
