Possibly the Dark Empire sourcebook, or the endnotes to the Dark Empire comics?

Dark Empire Sourcebook does indeed go into it, as do a few other RPG sources.

Started Heir to the Empire last night. Can't put it down. Glad I finally took the EU plunge.

I think Lumiya was telling the truth about that. Vader never could have challenged Palpatine

Have you read the RoTS novelization? It's very good..

Dark Empire is pretty good, but it's a comic series, not a novel.

The Rise of Darth Vader was pretty good, for post-ROTS work. Also, I think the conventional wisdom is that Shadows of Mindor is really good for post-ROTJ.

And of course there's the Thrawn trilogy.

I personally like the Nagai/Tof-war storyline in the old Marvel SW, begins just some days/a week or two after Endor

what the others have said are very good. If you wanted a very close chronological book to read post ROTJ, read Truce at Bakura or Courtship of Princess Leia. Otherwise Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor is fantastic. As far as ROTS, you could read. Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.

On Truce at Bakura, you're right - the request didn't specify that it had to be a good book. :D

i think it is a good book, just not a Thrawn trilogy or Mindor. I found the new race intriguing, and the fact that this occurs literally hours after Luke buried his father

I think it's a case of the concept being good, with the execution lacking.

I'm new to the comics. They had always been on my list, and with Dark Horse losing the license, they moved to the top. Thus far, I have obtained:
    Dark Empire/Dark Empire II/Empire's End
Tales of the Jedi Omnibus 1 and 2
Dawn of the Jedi 1 and 2
    Crimson Empire

    Also on my list are
Legacy books 1-3 (are there others coming out?)
KoToR Omnibus 1 and 2 (3 comes out later end of April or in June - I can't remember)
Dawn of the Jedi Force War (when it comes out as a single volume)
    Union

Is there anything else that I absolutely must get? I'm contemplating the Dark Times omnibuses (omnibi?)

    Thanks.

But I'm more concerned with Dark Horse because their availability is up in the air, right?

Once January 2015 comes, Dark Horse stops printing, and reprinting anything Star Wars.

What I have read of the X-Wing comics makes me recommend them

Yeah, I was thinking about that. Is there any additional back-story comics necessary to understand it?
