But again, does anyone actually want more CW shorts from Genndy?

I too enjoyed them when they came out between AOTC and ROTS, don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to slag Genndy or his series, I thought he was very successful.

I'm just surprised how his series as somehow been elevated to everything that is right with Star Wars, even over Lucas himself.

I wouldn't mind more of the microseries, but he accomplished what he was sent out to do. I mean, if I had to chose over the CGI or the Microseries, I'd go with the CGI. It wins by default though, seeing all the work Lucas is putting into it, and the fact that it comes straight from the horse's mouth and because it's fresh and new. But I really think Genndy's was more intense and I liked the dry corny humour it had in some of the episodes. Like when Obi Wan asks Anakin where he got the bugs he's eating, and Anakin simply replies "from the enemy camp, of course."

I liked the fact that the microseries was so quick and short, purely glimpses into the war. It was a good start off for whats to come, where I feel like each episode will be like a mini movie of the CW.

how can people say it was bad????!!! Genndy's show was great becouse of the fact that it actually felt like star wars! Genndy actualy had respect for star wars and did not try to copy any of the things about the movies and pretend that it would make a good substitute! he kept his show separate from actual star wars movies by not trying to have a half-assed opening scroll or trying to have music thats NOT john williams and pretending that its a good enough substitute like the new clone wars movie!

Genndy had respect for star wars in that if something like music or an opening scroll needed to be any wear he didnt have it at all rather than trying to substitute it with anything and as a result of that NO FANS EVER GOT MAD AT HIM AND THE SERIES WAS ENJOYABLE TO ALL. when i was watching the clone wars movie i was WISHING that Genndy had dun it!

So if anything the new clone wars movie made me appreciate the old mini series 10 time more!

Wait a minute!!! So the GT series is actually supposed to be in-universe, propaganda films, not actual events?

    Huh?

You know, you have good point on the music. I don't understand by the new Clone Wars movie/show doesn't just recycle 80% of the music from the movies. There's plenty of themes to work with. I listned to the entire TCW soundtrack last night while jogging and it didn't do anything for me. Boring boring boring.

On the other hand, did it really "feel" like Star Wars? Just imagine if Lucas put some of the same elements from the microseries into the live action movies. It would have been disastrous.

If you look at the microseries as a hugely stylized, cartooney take on the SW universe then it works ok. But it doesn't feel like "real" Star Wars, in my opinion.

Nah, they happened as much as any EU happened. The Paxi thing is just an out if people need to explain the artistic license taken.

Overall I liked the Genndy series (I do think it's HIGHLY overrated), but like Pablo said I think Genndy's Clone Wars is better served in the 3-minute micro-format. Clone Wars Vol. 2 is a real struggle to get through... it's good in chunks but it doesn't stand up very well watching it all in one sitting.

I liked Genndy's series but I can't pretend that I was a real Star Wars event for me like the movies were. It was just fun thrill ride of a show. The one thing I'll give it is that I prefer GTCW to the novel Labyrinth of Evil which i also like. The character development of Anakin in Volume 2 was top notch. A terrific prequel to Episode III. I like that when Anakin had his force vision he was too butt blind to understand that warning that his obsession with power and control would soon control him and devour those he loved most turning him into a monster. I got it but Anakin didn't and that just makes Volume II that much more delicious to me.

It had moments of greatness but was uneven. The kidnapping part at the end of Part 2 stands out to me as the only part I consider truly part of the canon. I guess the unveiling of Grievous as well. The rest was just silly fun. Definitely enjoyed the series, though.

It was Star Wars on TV, but not the Holiday Special or Droids or Ewoks!!!

    Of course it was good.

I was actually kinda looking foward to the soundtrack after the bits and pieces we saw on the official site. Especially the electric guitar [being a guitar player myself], however when I watched the movie last night I found myself kinda cringing or laughing at some of the music. Some of it was quite good, blended in and had a nice SW feel to it. However, the "seductive porno music" played when Coruscant Night was first shown, and the theme that played when they defeat the droids on Teth. It just....seemed wrong...

I loved the Tartakovsky shorts and I loved the new movie as well. They are very much different styles but in terms of enjoyment I really liked them about the same. I actually wouldn't mind if the 3D series adapted or reproduced some of the episodes from the 2D one just to see them in a new style. I'm expecting great things from TCW show and as of seeing the movie I havn't been disappointed. I just hope Ahsoka doesn't take over the spotlight and Shaak Ti never gets any time to shine in the new one. I definitely want to see some Togruta bonding and Shaak teaching how to be a mature female jedi. I guess just as a fan of animation and art in general I appreciate both series because they each offer something unexpected and original while still being thoroughly entertaining and staying true to the essence of SW.

Yeah, obi-rob does have a good point about the music in the new CW. IMO, it was horrible.

Both series had some good music tracks. In particular I loved the "unrelenting" music that played during the Grievous debut fight in GT, and the "amped-up Sith music" in 3D. People complain about the use of guitars, but AOTC used them first.

Genndy's was really good, the only thing about it was the action was sometimes way too over the top. But that's OK as that was a conscious decision because it was an animated short and had to also appeal to kids.

I think actually Genndy's Clone Wars is the best portrayal of Anakin (the movies included). You really get a sense of some of the darker themes and a really great use of foreshadowing.

Actually I think that Lucas took the electric guitar out of AotC's Courusant speeder chase but it is still in the official soundtrack. I liked the guitar music both in AotC's soundtrack and definitely the rock guitar in TCW score. It was just flat out cool.

Didn't mind the guitar in TCW. Didn't like it on the AOTC soundtrack. Hold my live action to a higher standard, I guess. TCW music sounded like a modern Battlestar Galactica soundtrack, and I liked it very much.

So then this series ties into the microseries. The movie seems to start after the bulk of the micorseries episodes aired. Also, it leaves room for most, if not all, of the DH stuff, which could have just taken place before this. It's tight, granted, but who is to say there isn't a discrepency with different time zones or something in different parts of the galaxy?

Is it that you don't like the music period or that you were expecting Star Wars soundtrack and got something loosely based on the original and wasn't John Williams?

I agree. 'Clone Wars' felt like Star Wars, it was intense, it drew you in, definitely captured the characters much better than 'The Clone Wars'. The opening to that show kicked ass, whereas the opening to the new movie was cheesy (so much so and so shockingly disappointing and unintentionally funny that I thought I was going to die from laughing). The animation was consistently awesome, whereas the wooden puppets of 'The Clone Wars' were a bit off at times. The dialogue, while still capmy, was the right kind of camp. The lightsaber duels were emotional and epic, not hollow and boring. I also agree that while the music in Tartakovsky's wasn't that great, it didn't try to be, whereas the 'new take on the Star Wars theme' in 'The Clone Wars' was just... horrible, for me at least. (I will admit though, in the film, the music was OK, but I'd never be able to listen to most of it on its own. I could listen to the ARC trooper's theme from 'Clone Wars' by itself though, where's that soundtrack?!?)

I've been a huge fan of Star Wars, obsessively so, since I was 5 (I'm now nearly 18), and just... I totally agree, while I did on some level enjoy the new film, mostly just for being Star Wars, at that mostly as a precursor to what promises to be a much better show, the Tartakovsky series is a far superior piece of Star Wars, as well as animation, to me.

So are you saying you prefer the new score to the score for Attack of the Clones? I personally love the score for Attack of the Clones, "Across the Stars" is one of my favorite themes in anything ever, "Return to Tatooine" is freakin sweet, and most of the music on there is awesome, to me. Like I said, I found 'The Clone Wars' music to work well enough in the film, but not really on its own as music to listen to.

That I can agree with to some degree. Mace Windu destroying an army with the Force for example... no thank you. For the most part though, I loved the action in that show to death, even when it was a bit over-the-top. And not for nothing, but what about Anakin hopping around like a jumping bean in 'The Clone Wars' at the Battle of Christophsis? In my opinion, also out of place and over-the-top, but works, like the vast majority of that sort of thing in Tartakovsky's 'Clone Wars'.

I always thought that the electric guitar in AOTC was the sound affects for the background and not the music? Because they were flying through the entertainment district of the planet and maybe they were flying by another night club/whatever that happen to have things that sounded like guitars.

Anyway as for the over the top force powers and things in the original clone wars mini series i can see what people mean when they say its too much and i agree but its never been something that bothers me that much and i think of it this way- if thats the ONLY thing that was wrong with that series than we can thank god! becouse it could have been much worse (TCW movie) and every thing else that they got right about it (the feel of star wars, good character development, true to the humor of star wars exc.) makes up for it ten fold. So i can let the super jedi stuff go.[face_coffee]

Precisely my point, mate. Though, I reiterate, while its amusing, I cannot ever take those 2 episodes with Mace Windu on Dantooine seriously. Way too over-the-top for me there.
