Geoffrey Rush was even screwed out of an Oscar for his performance in THE KING'S SPEECH.

Speaking of Nolan's Batman movies . . . Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon. That was just the perfect embodiment of that character. Particularly in The Dark Knight. But it would have been hard to have two nominees from the same movie. It was awesome that they even recognized Ledger, I suppose, and they probably wouldn't have if he hadn't died.

Yeah but Gary Oldman is fantastic in everything he's in. Matter of fact his performance in Leon: The Professional is utterly terrifying and Oscar worthy.

I personally think that Will Smith did a tremendous job in I Am Legend. He carries the whole first half of the movie as essentially a lone act. That would be challenging under any circumstances. In fact, the one he's asked to play is an emotionally fragile man devastated by the impact of long-term social isolation. He sells it well. Equally so when he's asked to meltdown at the end of the film into an enraged parallel of the creatures he's spent the last two hours facing. Physically, conceptually, and emotionally this was a very difficult role, and Smith tears through it brilliantly.

Hilariously enough, I completely agree with you. He should have been nominated for an Oscar. I can understand why they didn't since Pursuit of Happyness came out the year before.

I was actually referencing the fact that I find it completely flabbergasting that you would think he was Oscar worthy in I Am Legend. :p

That reminds me . . . I picked Jane Levy for The Evil Dead as one of my ten favorite female performances of the first half of the year. So, yeah, I thought she was super.

EDIT: I don't mean she deserves a nomination; she's already dropped off as I'm adding in performances from the second half of the year. But she's strikingly good for the kind of movie it is.

Daniel Craig Casino Royale: The most well-realized Bond performance we'll ever see. Craig masters the subtle and the expressive with equal aplomb.

I'll agree there. The relationship between Kong and Ann Darrow was always kind of bizarre and sort of had way too much of a sexual subtext but Jackson and Naomi Watts found that right tone. Watts' character respects the awe of Kong.

I think Smith is pretty good in 'I Am Legend' I think the movie would have been far more riskier and interesting if he had not come into contact with other survivors.

Bernard Hill as King Théoden in LotR. If he yelled "Charge!" I'd follow him through the gates of hell.
