I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on about the vary and different powers the Jedi in the books display. In the movies we see only a few and yet common display of how the force is maniuplated. Force push, lighting in darksiders ect.

But in the novels a Jedi's power seem vastly different. Example would be how Luke fought against the wolvkils in suvivor's quest or Jacen's tears used as a healing technique.

    Movie force powers:

    Grip
    TK
    Lightning
    Jump
    Float (in a manner)
    Superhuman reflexes
    Seeing the future
    Absorb
    Strike/Destroy Droid
    Mind Trick

    EU-only:

    Speed*
    Heal (in various forms)
    Protection*
    Rage*
    Battle Meditation*
    Drain Life
    Memory Erasal*

    * = implied as possible (or maybe used) in movies

I know there are ones I left out, but most are specialized versions of those.

Force speed was more than implyed. It was shown in Episode one when quigon and obiwan ran from the destroyer droids. Though it was first found in EU sources, like video games.

Is the ability to manipulate animals (like Jacen in SBS) considered a form of mind trick or is it some sort of force empathy?

It seems in ANH a little bit like Obi Wan uses the force to weake Luke up after the Tusken Attack - If it was used to wake him from unconsciousness, it could possibly be force Heal.
Yes and Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon use the Force to Speed up and run away.

I guess it's just the healing in various forms that annoys me makes them seem too invincible. Plus I mean Obi was crying all over Qui-Gon why couldn't he heal him the same way.

Luke used Force speed in ESB. And, currently, is the only person to do it vertically.

Now, the fact that I have a limited amount of $$$ to spend means that I don't have the DVDs yet, so is this an added scene or something?

Or am I misremembering/interpreting something differently from you?

If you are referring to the jump out of the carbon freeze chamber in ESB (about 1:40 in, right after the "All too easy line") then that's a Force Jump, not Force Speed.

Yoda uses a ton of force abilites. Force speed, Force jump, force defence and Enhance ability.

You can also argue that obi-wan uses a healing trance in aotc. Dooku cuts him up then obi-wan tosses anakin the sabers. He lies there motionless. When the fight is over he gets up and can walk.

Anakin also uses the force to be able to intercept dooku's attack on obi-wan. I'm not sure waht power he user but i would say force jump.

Doesn't Anakin use the empathy think with the Reek in AotC right before he jumps on its back

That'd fall under the "mindtrick" category for me, but it could be its own.

If you think about it, most/all of those fall into three categories:

Chanelling Force Energy (through your own body) (Lightning Rage, Heal, Protect, Absorb, Reflexes, etc.)

Telekinesis (Grip, Push, Pull, Jump, Speed, Float)

Alter Mind/Mindtrick (What Anakin does to the reek, Mindtricks, Memory Erasal, causing the sound in DS1, etc.)
