Finally, I know something about the release of the English version of Germany's Star Wars Rebels Magazine. First, I emailed Titan Magazines U.S., this was their response: Customer Service 2:36 AM (7 hours ago) to me We are hoping to release the English language edition of Star Wars Rebels in the U.S. in the spring and we'll let our customers know as soon as we can. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with and Thank You for your business! Titan Publishing Customer Service customerservice@titanpublishingusa.com (USA) 800-261-6502 or 818-487-4579 (outside of the USA) 818-487-4579 Then, I emailed Panini Germany in English, this was their response: Achim Guenzel <Achim.Guenzel@panini.de> 4:24 AM (5 hours ago) to me we are creating the Star Wars Rebels magazine and publishing it in Germany. But our content will be used by many many other countries; I’m pretty sure that UK will have their version, speaking about the US – I honestly don’t know. As far as I know the license in the UK is bought by Egmont; but I have no idea if they will use our materials and I also don’t know if or/when the first issue will be released. Best regards Achim So I figured it out, Titan will publish the magazine in the U.S. and Egmont will publish it in the U.K., the first issue in the U.S. will be out in the Spring (no release date yet). I did not contact Egmont U.K. but Panini's response said they have the license so anyone here could contact them and ask about the first U.K. issue's release date.
I've actually done a couple of book reviews of Egmont UK releases here in the forum. If I hear anything about the UK magazine from them I'll be sure to let people here know about it.
I believe the one from the UK comes out at the end of Jan. I buy from Steve's Comics and Books in the UK and he told me that issue 13 of Star Wars was the last one and that by the end of next month we should be getting the new Star Wars Rebels one. The only thing now is how different is it going to be from the German version or US version?
Now that we know Egmont is publishing the magazine in the UK, is Titan still planning to release it in the U.S.? I've contact their Customer Service but no answer. Anyone else who can contact Titan, please find out. And if Titan is not releasing a U.S. edition, find out if Egmont plans to bring the magazine to the U.S.
I finally got a reply from Titan: Customer Service The official release date for the Rebels Magazine in the US is unknown at this time. We will be making an announcement as soon as the details are worked out. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with and Thank You for your business! Titan Publishing Customer Service customerservice@titanpublishingusa.com (USA) 800-261-6502 or 818-487-4579 (outside of the USA) 818-487-4579 So for U.S. fans, are you going to get the Egmont editions or wait for Titan's? It'll probably not be that much longer but it'll be worth it to get our own edition. Who knows what we'll get in the magazine except the comics. I heard the German and the UK editions have extra goodies in there. I hope ours probably get something like them.
Update - I can confirm this is out in the UK. The store where I get the Saturday papers had one on the magazine rack. It was bagged so I couldn't page through. If it's like the Clone Wars and Star Wars comic magazines it will come with a freebie or two. I passed on it at this point.
It's avaiable in Poland too. The comic is entitled "Fool's Race" (but I'm not sure about the original title) and yeah, it's similar to the ones that appeared in TCW Magazine. According to the writer, it takes place "somewhere within the series where there is a gap". https://twitter.com/ShaakTi1138/status/558755446220394497
Available in WH Smiths in the UK. picked up a copy this morning. the comic is a 12 page story and we know from the interviews with the editors that everything is story group approved and edited. so its canon. Where it takes place? some point during season 1. Spoiler the story is called Ring Race and tells of all the rebels gang arriving at teh Osisis Station which orbits an unknown ringed planet. the station is described as "the last port of call for those living on the down side of the Regani sector". the gang are there for parts for the damaged ghost. the station is owned by Galus Vez, an unpleasant Besalisk who trades parts on the black market. He knows of Hera and they go back. So the group arrive to see Galus and ask for parts. Galus is reluctant to help based on the doubling of empire inspections. he threats that he will turn them over unless Hera races him in the Fools Run - a race through asteroids of the ringed planet - a task no-one has done. Hera agrees to the annoyance of Kanan. they agree no weapons/lasers during the race. the race starts, Hera takes the lead, Galus though can activate asteroids that have boosters attached to them. they nearly take out Hera in the Ghost. Kanan and Ezra who are watching the race from the station, use the force to even out the odds and have asteroids head towards Galus. this distractions allows Hera to win. Galus, not a gracious winner and back in the station, tries to shoot the rebels when they ask for the parts. Kanan prevents this as he had secretly disarmed everyone. terms negociated and the team leave. galus makes sure all data of their appearance are wiped from camera records. End. overall a short, enjoyable comic.
they've been coming out monthly in the UK. comic titles have been: Learning Patience, The fake Jedi and the most recent one whose title completely alludes me! all canon and all slot into the rebels timeline.
Published by Egmont here in the UK. https://www.egmont.co.uk/magazine/star-wars-rebels/ best bet is probably ebay. if you're looking for all of them, so far 4 have been released (monthly) new one out in english on Wednesday.
You could try emailing Egmont to see if they know if there is a US edition. I know here in the UK Forbidden Planet gets a lot of the US import magazines - if you have a specialist SF store, comic store or bookstore that stocks international magazines you might try them as well. Maybe even a Disney store or their website? It's worth a shot..
Kind of weird that Egmont doesn't have a store online. I could only find issue #4 on ebay, which is useless by itself (isn't the comic ongoing?). I emailed Egmont and asked if there was any way for me to purchase all four issues.
the comics are all separate individual stories, so not ongoing in the traditional sense. they tend to be all over the place timeline wise. the 2nd comic almost certainly happens before the first comic for instance. it could be worthwhile purchasing even the 4th comic.
Haven't seen any of these in the US yet. They seem scarce on eBay, too. I've seen some scans of the comics online, but I'd like the opportunity to purchase the real thing.
