Literally less than a day after the EpVII announcement, the thread started. A bunch of oldbies who had stopped posting for a while showed up again. People talked about random things. Very little math was involved.

But seriously, it's the dedicated social/off-topic thread in what's easily our most active board at the moment, and that means lots of posts.

Sucks to pull up the Carolina Hurricanes page and see "cancelled" next to each of their scheduled games. :(

That's pretty much the truth... there are health benefits offered by the company (our open enrollment just ended), but in terms of actually showing up when you've got the flu, cold, etc..., they are hard asses about it.

I see I missed a lively discussion about Bill BellaCheat & the Pats. Always a grand topic for bringing sports fans together...

Social threads are these magical places where you can talk about anything in your life and be social. Kinda like the Community forum.

I've never understood why Philly fans have gotten a bad rap for booing Santa all of those years ago... **** such as that ought to be encouraged!

I'm not an Eagles fan. I have been a Ravens fan since their inception. I had a cheap uncle who randomly bought me a Browns jersey for Christmas one year and I decided I ought to follow them since I had the stupid jersey. Fortunately, they moved and became a real team...

Fortunately? They should have never moved to begin with*.

*And yes, as a L.A. Lakers & Dodgers fan, I realize the irony of that statement.

I think I'm required to at least tolerate the Eagles since they drafted the guy who played quarterback at my undergraduate institution when I was going there, but honestly I find it hard to get enthusiastic about professional football. It just gives me some background noise while I grade.

    Hockey, mostly, so... well... :p

To a lesser extent: college football, cricket, Olympic curling, Olympic sprint cycling.

Ahhhhhh. I watched a bit of curling during the last two Winter Games... found myself curiously interested.

It's basically drunken shuffleboard with a giant rock and brooms, and is therefore objectively the best sport. :p

You're all wrong. Olympic swimming is the best sport. It's the only time I get to watch an entire pool full of well-toned men in Speedos, and it only happens every four years.

I'll be honest, I'm fond of well-toned men in skimpy outfits, but swimming does very little for me. Probably because I grew up around it.
