Wouldn't bother on iPad, but for your phone, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I've been using Tapatalk for several months now and I like it. I've only had forum runner for a few days, but I do like its interface as well. Read some of the posts in that thread I linked to for more opinions.

You need to go into the app settings and turn on alerts. You might also need to specify whether you just want PM alerts, or other types of alerts.
@Grimby. Looked at the alerts and they show on but I'm only getting them on my phone for private conversations.....
Have you tried looking at the settings menu after you log into the board? There should be something in there to set which types of alerts you receive, depending on which app you're using. I'm using Tapatalk on Android and I am able to toggle alerts for PMs as well as subscribed topics. I have subscribed topics turned off because I have too many subscribed.
@catz44, which app did you end up selecting? I too have the iphone. I've mostly been ok with going on the boards via safari, but I might check out the app option.
I used forum runner. I was skeptical too about using it since I could just use safari and access it that way, but it's a great app so much easier. Definitely worth the couple bucks .
Does Tapatalk show the images for emoticons? My view shows the text (face_tired) unless I click on the post itself. I use Forum Runner.
Yep, it sure does. And it jumps down to the newest post I haven't read in a thread when I choose one.
