Anakin exited the lift of his apartment building, walking down the empty hallway after a long day at Jedi Temple. He had spent the morning helping in the crèche and all afternoon instructing younglings in lightsaber and hand-to-hand combat fighting techniques and he was bone weary.

Three years had passed since he killed Chancellor Palpatine, the evil Sith Lord, ending the Clone Wars and restoring balance to the force but it was still important for the Jedi to continue to maintain their skills.

He paused outside the door to his home, whispering a silent prayer to the Force Luke and Leia would be ready for bed when entered so he would be able to collapse in front of the holo net and relax his aching muscles.

He opened the door silently and was greeted by chaos. ?Figures,? he sighed, stepping inside and surveying the damage.

Luke was running through the living room, soaking wet and covered with a thin layer of soap screaming, ?You can?t catch me, you can?t catch me.?

Threepio was in hot pursuit, moving as fast as his circuits would allow, pleading with him to return immediately to the fresher to finish his bath.

Leia was sitting on the floor surrounded by her dolls, dozens of doll clothes, a tea set and several stuffed animals, chattering away.

?Padmé?? Anakin?s eyes frantically searched for his wife. He finally found her, stretched out on the sofa with a cloth over her eyes.

?So much for a quiet evening in front of the holo net,? he groaned. Resisting the urge to turn around and head back to the much quieter Temple, he reached out and grabbed his wayward son.

?Luke!?

?Hi daddy,? Luke happily greeted him, with an innocent grin.

Anakin frowned, biting back a smile. Without a word, he pointed to the fresher.

?Okay,? Luke sighed, his shoulders slumping. ?Playtime?s over, Threepio.?

?Thank you, Master Anakin,? Threepio sighed, his voice filled with relief. Taking Luke?s hand, he escorted him from the room.

?Daddy!? Leia dropped her dolls and came running up to Anakin, arms raised.

Anakin happily lifted her into his arms, swinging her around while she shrieked in delight.

?More!? she protested when he set her down a minute later.

?Tomorrow,? Anakin promised, running his fingers through her soft hair.

?Awww,? Leia sighed, her lower lip protruding.

?If you?re good,? Anakin added with a wink.

?I will be!? Leia grinned before turning to Padmé. ?Mommy, daddy?s home!?

?Ani,? Padmé whispered, not moving.

Anakin crouched down on one knee next to Leia. ?Why don?t you get your toys put away before bed,? he suggested.

?But daddy, I?m not tired,? Leia protested looking up at him with wide, pleading eyes.

Anakin could feel his heart melting but one look at his exhausted wife toughened his resolve.

?You will be when you finish putting everything away,? he assured her.

?But daddy!?

?Now, Leia.?

?Humph,? Leia stomped her foot in protest but did as she was told.

Rising to his feet, Anakin walked over to the couch, lightly touching Padmé?s arm.

?Long day?? he softly asked.

?You have no idea,? she sighed, moving the cloth from her eyes and sitting up. You??

?You have no idea,? Anakin repeated, taking her hands and pulling her into his warm embrace.

Padmé wrapped her arms around Anakin, burying her face in his neck and inhaling his musky scent. ?If I had known children were this exhausting, I would have just gotten a couple pittens instead of having any,? she breathed.

?Or it could have just been the two of us,? Anakin replied, brushing his lips across her forehead. ?Imagine being able to come home to a quiet home with everything always in it?s place.?

?And being able to sleep through the night,? Padmé added with longing.

?And not having to wash anybody but ourselves.?

?Or each other,? Padmé corrected, her tone laced with desire.

 

He smiled despite his numb arms and hugged them closer to him. Closing his eyes, he whispered a prayer of thanks to the Force and the entire Jedi Order for giving him the strength to fulfill his destiny. He didn?t even want to think where he would be now had he given into the dark side and joined Palpatine.



*sighs* if only...

I wish it had been this way.

?Let?s do this together,? Anakin suggested, leading the twins to the couch, Luke climbing into Padmé?s lap and Leia into Anakin?s. Anakin put his arm around Padmé cuddling his family close to him.

Glancing at his wife, he whispered, ?But I wouldn?t give this up for anything in the Galaxy.?

?Me either,? she mouthed, hugging Luke to her.

 

So so sweet and wonderfully mushy!

?I?m taking you up on that offer when the kids are in bed,? he murmured, lowering his mouth to hers.

?Ewwwww!?

Anakin reluctantly broke the kiss, glancing down at his horrified children.
