Unless there's a specific thing humans are needed for (that robots can't do), there's no real reason to send humans into space.

 

Anti-asteroid programs are relatively cheap to fund and also don't require humans in space.

 

If our solution to an asteroid in our path is somehow getting all 7+ billion people into space, then we're in a lot of trouble. Do you know what an asteroid redirect is?

We don't need to get all 7 billion plus people into space. Just enough people to ensure genetic viability.

 

How about we instead focus in a method that doesn't involve billions of people getting killed and saves the only planet that won't kill us within seconds.

Quite the contrary, it's more that you're either humoring me well enough that I'm not reading the subtle obliging satire of your first post or you seriously think "genetically pure examples of each nationality" is a viable, measurable concept and I really hope it's not the latter.

 

Yeah, how do you define "genetically pure"? Oh, that's right, you don't.

 

However, this does illustrate my (harshly worded) point - there aren't many valid selection criteria (If indeed there are any) for a limited survival/evacuation type scenario and they frequently rely on hazy understandings of genetics that can lean full-on into ideology that I think the majority of us are, luckily, quite uncomfortable with. That's good! It's good that it's uncomfortable, but that same discomfort is precisely why these plans aren't tenable. The situations wherein any individual or groups of individuals would claim to have the supreme ethical authority to create such groups or such plans are such that they would either be built on an ideological foundation none of us would be comfortable with allowing to perpetuate or that they would occur in such dire circumstances that no amount of adequate preparation would be possible.

Asteroid deflection is really the only recourse in these scenarios, and would undoubtably be tenable with a wide variety of alternative methods prior to any mass evacuation scheme being remotely viable, even as a last ditch effort.
