I simply meant if they substituted in the toho Godzilla into the exact same story it would still be trash.

 

And would look out of place I can't see a toho Godzilla in place of that film because I always felt Godzilla was male even though I have always wondered how he got a son.

 

Everything up until the big reveal with the fish wasn't bad in the '98 zilla - after that though, total crap.

 

Godzilla does not have a biological son. "Minya" is simply another Godzilla that is not grown up yet.

 

So I wanna put the question because of the slowly rising popularity of American made kaiju films do you think Legendary Pictures should try to acquire the film rights to Gamera and Daimajin? So later on they can make kaiju films about them?

 

I want the term "kaiju" to go the way of the Dodo bird and not the Toho film...

 

So you want the term to die? But I am unsure what you mean by the part of not the toho film?

 

It's not a mainstream term in the US until basically this last year; it may be a valid term in Japan, but it's being horribly overused here in the States. It should die a horrible death from frequent usage in our everyday conversation...

Was it actually used in the original Toho Godzilla films though, out of curiosity? I honestly don't remember... I just know Pacific Rim stirring this whole crap up...

 

I can say this much I just didn't start using term the kaiju just because of Pacific Rim I would always use the term when I would chat with friends about the genre. Like Godzilla movies obviously but also chatting about Gamera, Daimajin and other kaiju films that exist. And besides Kaiju could refer to any strange creature or monster since as I am sure you know its literal translation is strange creature even if it is associated with Japanese monster films.

 

Do they ever mention anything in Pacific Rim along the lines of "We call them kaiju because of the old Japanese monster movies"? I can't remember. At least that'd make more sense than the giant mechs being called Jaegers because it just sounds cooler in German.

The shaky-cam wasn't the reason why that film was terrible... the plot, and terrible use of geography were the culprits.

It doesn't but I guess it looks DARK AND GRITTY with monolith music.
