Hey guys! I can't believe I still had an account here. Must have been the early 2000s! I mostly abandoned Star Wars art after Episode 1 but the love came back full-blown with TFA. I've been doing a lot of new art and no end in sight. There are so many of the new characters that resonate with me that it was hard at first to pick a favourite, and I was rather surprised myself that the favourite then turned out to be Kylo Ren. These were all done in watercolour (with some gouache/gel pen for highlights). Disclaimer: I'm most definitely not the greatest of portrait artists. Here's Rey. She was the hardest to capture, for me. Kylo Ren. Companion piece to the previous: Young Ben Solo, corrupted to the Dark Side by Snoke. Han. And Poe Dameron. There's some more (updated frequently) on my blog at http://www.goldseven.de . I'm really looking forward to hearing from you guys - I miss the old forum days, and I'm beyond happy to have found a forum that is still alive 2016!
Ooooh, I think I saw you on Instagram… Your work is so admirable and genuine. I can get lost in them!
Hmm... computer posted my comment twice for some reason. Tell me, is this pure watercolour or have you done some digital touch-ups as well?
Thanks for the kind words, guys! Antlers, Instagram is probably the only social media I don't do, hee. Maybe it was tumblr? Gaarastar, practically no touchups, no. You can see some of my processes on Youtube, too; for example Poe: Here's my most recent one! The Kylo Ren obsession is reaching alarming levels. Which I'm perfectly fine with, mind. There's a process for this here, too:
Welcome back to the boards! Your watercolours are beautifully done. Thank you for sharing your process too.
Ha! How did you know that was the last one I just did? "That Hairy Beast" - Kylo Ren remembering Chewie. Or trying not to. And another speculative one, based on the theory that Rey was at Luke's academy as a child, where she also met Ben Solo (who later left her on Jakku rather than killing her). You may have seen this one on 9gag or Reddit; it's been making the rounds
Those last two are great! Two thumbs up! I love your interpretation on how Ben's personality was before the dark side.
I absolutely love your pictures. You really captured the essence of those characters well and made the pictures your own. There are so many flawlessly done paintings out there, that look like an exact replica of a photo, but your pics really have a soul. Great work.
