Burn Your Face Upon the Chrome

?My stars, Ambassador, it is beautiful!?

My words came out breathless and simpering as I allowed my eyes to widen appreciatively at the sight before me. Looking at Keanne shyly through my lashes I allowed my eyes to talk for me ? begging permission to approach the sleek lined racing yacht before me.

He smiled indulgently before asking, ?Would you like a tour, my dear??

I favored him with a pleased bob of my head and then turned once more to the yacht before me, taking several delicate steps to each of his longer strides, though he gallantly tried to keep a slower pace for me. As we neared it, I bit my lip and reached a hand to gently caress the lines, shivering.

At least that part wasn?t feigned. This vessel was magnificent and merely touching it sent a thrill straight through me. I couldn?t wait for the tour I knew was coming. I wanted details. Lots and lots of details.

?What are you going to call her??

Ambassador Keanne had an eye for speed. He was smart, talented, and inspired; engineering ships and racing them was his hobby. He also liked fast women and enjoyed the company of a small, devoted group of beautiful ?fans? that he lavished with gifts, so long as they followed his rules. Most complied very nicely.

This last vice of his was in direct conflict of his aristocratic sensibilities. His solution was simple. He kept a demure, graceful younger woman at his side at all times. In this case, I was the lucky girl. He still thinks that he found me.

?I call her Star Sweeper.?

I fought hard not to snort out loud. He obviously thought he was going to sweep the Galactic Circuit this season. Arrogant son a Sith, isn?t he? The first race, the Corellian Classic, was four days from now and I was just getting my first glimpse of Sweeper after 2 days in hyperspace on his vessel. I was beginning to wonder if all this polite dancing to his tune was worth it. Another glance at the smooth hull plating beneath my fingertips reassured me that it most certainly was.

?I don?t know a lot about this sort of thing, but those engines look really big. I?m sure you will win.? My smile was all innocence and nectar.

?Well, we can?t have my pretty little Mira not know about my own Sweeper, can we?? I blushed as prettily as I could before his words begun to roll over me. ?The engines??

Inwardly, I grinned. It was really too simple to manipulate a man like Keanne if one knew how. Apparently, I was a fast study. This was a man who, above all else, desired to be worshipped for his cleverness and if the woman was beautiful and silent, then so much the better.

Get with the times, man!

I allowed my eyes to widen at just the wrong moments in his monologue ? which were the just the right ones to keep him talking about the love of his life while still satisfied that I was properly impressed and had no clue what he was talking about ? as I carefully catalogued the systems, capabilities, and other security details we would need to know.

Slow Ride

Back in my suite aboard the Swift Negotiations, I entered my rooms with a flush on my face. Let Keanne believe it was from his lips lingering a moment longer than strictly necessary as he kissed me outside my rooms if he wanted to. His ego was worth stroking at this point. I wanted that ship.

?Arica? caught my eye and nodded before activating the private jamming field that she took care to set up around my bed that first night. It was a risk and with any other ?proper gentl

Now, while this is inspired by the Gentlemen's Writing Guild and dedicated to the great guys over there, it is also an execise for myself. My goal is to post one 500 word chapter a day until the story is told. My goal is the challenge deadline of June 25th.

Wish me luck!

I like this! :D

Not enough out there about Mara and Mirax. They raised some h**l before they settled down!

I wonder if Ambassador Keanne is as dense as they suspect. Great description of how Mirax felt when she saw "her" ship!

I'm glad to see you writing something again and even more glad to see the personal challenge you've set up for yourself. Firstly because it's a great goal to set for yourself and secondly because, if you succeed, we get more every day. :D

You?re off to a great start. I?m really loving your characterizations of both Mara and Mirax.

Damn Leia Organa Solo!! If she had bothered to save the galaxy with short hair, then these ridiculous hair sculptures would not be so en vogue.
[face_laugh] [face_laugh] [face_laugh] Priceless line!

Keep up the wonderful writing. I'm really looking foward to more.

Now it's official. YOU ARE BACK!![face_dancing]

Mirax and Mara would make a formidable team. I do hope that Mirax can get out of the mess she's in at the moment. Maybe she should whack him with her hair :p

Wonderful start. I'm looking forward to the next part.

oooh, I like this alot. Especially how the Ambassador fins so little reagrd for women and knowing that Mirax is bound to teach him a much needed lesson!

This time I didn?t hold back my snort. ?The arrogant bastard - did you know that Keanne's mother got pregnant before she married his father? - named her the Star Sweeper.?

o_O That was very cleverly done!! [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

While I know you're determined to post daily, I get caught up in so much on the boards and forget things. MIght I ask for A pm when you do update?

diva ~ Thanks! I am really enjoying writing them as a team.
Mirax ~ Why yes, they do!
princess ~ You seem to have a talent for finding my fave lines, too.
Lola ~ I may be back, but I refuse to wear black. :D
Piggy ~ Had to start sometime, I guess. Thanks for joining us.
Leona ~ I felt silly about putting that bit of snark in there, but you have sooo made my day by noticing! Thank you! [face_laugh]

This next bit didn't come out as planned, but when does anything I write come out the way I planned?

Decide to Walk with Me

The intercom chimed and he stepped away from me, offering his arm. I stared at it like a viper, not bothering to hide my confusion and anger. After all, if I was the maiden I wanted him to see, I would still be horrified by what just happened.

?Come, Mira, our dinner is ready to be served. I had it prepared especially for tonight.? The secretive smile on his face didn?t encourage me. My eyes finally lifted to his.

?Why??

?Simply put, my galley droid is temperamental. If we are late, it will think we are insulting it.?

?That?s not what I mean. Why,? I swept my arm over the view port, words failing me momentarily, ? ? this??

?You are in not currently in a position to ask questions. Decide to walk with me to dinner tonight and you may be allowed to answer a few before I determine what to do with you.? His face hardened. ?I dislike deception.?

What choice did I truly have but to agree? My mind kept leaping to the worst possible conclusions. A voice that sounded remarkably like my father?s whispered, ?Never give anything away. What you don?t say, your enemy will fill in for you. Play smart, keep quiet.? I accepted his arm and allowed him to escort me to the dining area.

The first course was eaten in welcome silence as Keanne continued studying me. He seemed uneasy, which helped me to eat my iced shalla calmer that I thought possible. He doubted himself, after I passed his little ?test? and that could only be good for me. Besides, once I got over the fear of poison, shalla was one of my favorite dishes. The native Corellian fruit was perfectly balanced between tart and sweet, making for an excellent iced soup when pureed.

The delicious aroma of Calamarian lobstertails heralded the serving droids? arrival and I sat back, content to let Keanne continue worrying himself about me as they cleared away the first course. He was unwise to cease his attack simply because it was the dinner hour. Really, men have no sense of timing. If he pressed me then, I might have said something unfortunate. Now I was thinking clearly again, and firmly in character.

If he wanted me to believe that I wasn?t Mira Tarvel, then he was going to have to shove the warrant for Mirax Terrik?s arrest in my face before I believed him. Even then, I might ask for a DNA sample, first. If he truly was onto me, I would make him pay dearly for that stolen kiss. I allowed myself a very small smile under the cover of enjoying the mouth watering delicacy before me.

Ahhh, good, gooood. Mirax was able to maintain her little game.

Exactly!! To keep talking invites too much info. This lady's a smart one! [face_thinking]

YEE-HAW! Z is back in the saddle! My former master is writing again! [face_dancing]

This was a lot of fun, Z. I like how you didn't reveal who the characters were until halfway through.

You've got two saucy women on the prowl for a luxurious space yacht. I loved the characterization. the dialogue and pacing are fast and engrossing.

My one, underlying question is why? Mara mentions Corran. This is Beyond? What's going on here, Z? [face_worried] :D

Thank you guys for the replies!

Sara ~ amen. good food trumps all.
Leona ~ Yeah, not talking invites him to talk more.
brew ~ I'm taking the idea that much of the EU is the same, with the major exception being tha Mara and Mirax met and joined forces before Corran and Luke could snag them. AU.

Make up Your Mind

After our silent dinner was cleared away, we retired to the observation deck again. Keanne graciously offered me a comfortable seat and personally poured two small glasses of a golden liquid from an elegant decanter in the cabinet. The idea of poison once again crept into my mind, but I shoved it brutally aside.

It was golden with a delicate scent of flowers. I took a hesitant sip and the warmth of the liquor slid deliciously down my throat and spread throughout my body. There was nothing harsh about this drink, it was delightful and ? I suspected ? powerful.

?It is pre-Empire Bakuran.?

Setting the glass gently aside, I smiled appreciatively at Keanne. I would need to think clearly in the coming moments and Bakuran nectars had a reputation of being powerful mood enhancers. I needed wits, not emotions.

?I?ve never had it before, though I have heard of it. It is as wonderful as everyone says.? I paused, allowing some worry into my eyes, ?Does this mean that?? I trailed off, trying to appear disconcerted and vulnerable.

?Ah, yes, I always think one should talk business after dinner, don?t you, Miss Terrik??

Okay, so he does know. How? And does he know about Mara? One thing was for certain, there was no point in angering him by acting any longer.

?It is more civilized that way, yes.?

His brows lifted in surprise. ?You aren?t going to try denying it??

?Would there be a point, Ambassador? Besides, I tire of simpering for you. I am curious though,? I forced myself to retreat into the depths of my seat and relax, ?what gave me away??

Standing between me and the only door to the room, he relaxed a little. I suspected that he was eager to show off how incredibly intelligent he was.

?Your eyes, dear. Your eyes. When you saw the Star Sweeper, you couldn?t hide the hunger there. I know you tried to feign ignorance, but you actually understood everything I told you in the hold. Everything.? He seemed amazed by this revelation.

I waited, there didn?t seem to be much I could say.

?I am intrigued by you, Miss Terrik.?

?I am flattered to be the object of your fascination.?

?You actually have a love for ships that, I believe, rivals even mine. You have proven that you have the capacity to act civilized. I also suspect that you know my reputation and habits.?

?Would you mind plotting a clearer course, please??

?I am not a young man, Mirax. It is high time I began to consider continuing my family?s line and ensuring its fortunes.?

Plan B was definitely out. Was there ever a Plan C, though? I didn?t think so. Plan C usually involved unpleasant stuff like blaster burns and blood.

?Again, I?m not tracking.?

?Don?t be obtuse, woman. You know damn well what I am offering. I offer my protection, my name, and a comfortable life. I offer not turning you in.?

?I?m afraid that I?m just not interested.?

His face flushed and his voice lowered. ?You refuse? I doubt anyone else catching you trying to steal their yacht would be as generous.?

?Oh, you mean your offer of indentured servitude and glorified slavery for the rest of my life? You are quite right, Ambassador. Most others would at the very least be kind enough to shoot me on sight.? I picked up my glass and, taking one last deliberate swallow, stood up. ?Several have tried, as a matter of fact.?

He moved to cut off the door, growling, ?I could turn you in now.?

I smiled. ?You are more than welcome to try.?

He turned grim as a holdout blaster dropped out of his sleeve, ?You won?t be getting help from that serving woman of yours, either. She has already been taken care of.? He smiled apologetically as my face hardened.

?What have yo

It looks like Mirax is in a tight spot! How will she escape the pompous Senator? Will Mara come to her aid? And will the blast out of there in his shiny new space yacht?!

I'm sure there is more to come.
