I don't know if this disqualifies me from being a Star Wars geek or not, but what the hell is R5-D4?

I wouldn't have known if he wasn't the very first action figure I got. R5-D4 - a poor man's R2-D2 - is your typical 'Grandma's Gift': an action figure you don't want. Say 'hi' to Prune Face.

R5-D4 was the droid who had a bad motivator in ANH when Owen opted for that droid over Artoo.

So does the droid from Obi-Wan's fighter have any exciting scenes aside from whirling around in its wing mount?

I think that's about all we'll see of that droid. And does it even have a body? I can't see how from the width of the wing.

Either way he's back - whatever ordeals and trials may come, R5-D4 IS BACK.

He'll top every kid's wishing list.

From the TF.N report of the Episode-X report:
...suprisingly R5-D4 have been added to the listing as appearing in Attack of the Clones. Highlight here for spoilers: Episode-X says that R5-D4 will have a cameo in Watto's shop. Care to guess who gives him the bad motivator we see in A New Hope?

Might be old news, but it must of been something I missed. I think this will be hilarious, just hope it isn't overdone or made too obvious.

R5-D4 didn't have a bad motivator - he faked it.

He just didn't feel like joining in on an adventure with a whining farmboy and a panicky gold droid.

    And who can blame him?

He faked it, convincingly, and that's why he should've won the Best Actor Oscar.

I wonder if R5-D4 had a similar cursing problem like R2-D2 did.

The most amazing the about R5 is that in ANH he managed to be at two places at one time. Mindboggling quantum astro-mechanic droid.

I believe it is important that we see the R-5 unit in AOTC. It really helps the audience see elements of the OT in the PT and helps the saga seem as one continuous whole. GOod job Debo..thanks!!!

Death to R5-D4! Everytime I used to search for new Star Wars figures at Wal-Mart, all I could ever find was a plethora of R5 and Momaw Nadon.

You hated him, you didn't want him, you were trying to avoid him - yet he was there, in stores everywhere, quietly begging:

"Buy me... Buyyyy meeee..... I am a cooool action figure..."

Ah R5-D4, I remember back in the day when this sweet little girl used to pertend that the R5 toy was a girlfriend for R2-D2...

    *Looks further back*

On the other hand, I also remember what she did with my Luke and Leia figures too....So, I'm just gonna get some more post-truamatic therapy now...

*Runs from the room screaming like a madman*

Anyone else with a memorable R5-D4 story?

How did the droid change YOUR life?

Ever bought one with a misprint on the title card?

Did one ever get stuck in a funny place?

Come on, and share your stories with the R5-D4-IS-BACK thread!

Ever read SWTales (st00pid question in this forum). There's a hilarious story in an early issue that reveals that R5-D4 was actually a Jedi!!

The action figure that continues to remain on the shelves at the Walmart by me is Desert Maul. There are about 200 of those and Emperor Palpatine with Lightning.

Thanks, Sarlacc - but it seems no one has any memories of R5-D4 whatsoever.

I just wanted to celebrate the poor droid, give him some attention, make him feel important and part of the SW Universe. Bad motivator or not.

Alas, it is not to be -- the fan club will end here, and R5-D4, The Son of The Sun, will return to that great big Jawa vehicle in the sky.

He leaves us a message, though: "Better a bad motivator than no motivation at all."

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?
