    Good Old Games

I just found this today, it's a new on-demand games service for really old games. Just a look at the games on offer on the teaser page are enough to stir loins, Fallout, Sacrifice, Giants, MDK.
All available and tweaked to run on modern operating systems, bundled along with a load of extra goodies, soundtracks, editors, etc, and all of them are dirt cheap.

The service is only in closed beta at the moment, but I'd be excited to see the range of titles it offers and how well tweaked they are for modern platforms, if they offer the fallout series with a high-res 1280x mode and enhanced graphics, or like, HDR for Giants, I'd be on it more than Sesfan over EVE.

I have my fingers crossed for this site to release every Lucasarts game from Maniac Mansion to Escape From Monkey Island. Just wishful thinking.

Those were my exact thoughts. I had been hoping just two days ago, that the Lucasarts site would have done something similar.

How *old* do they mean though? There were some GREAT games out in the '80's that you can't find now.

You can still buy several Apogee classics at 3DRealms. Some are even Freeware nowadays.

The website suggests that the service will go live this month, but I don't think there's an exact date.

Early Access Beta is Coming! Beware.

On Monday, September 8, anyone who signed up for the GOG.com beta will start receiving access keys to the site.

We're saying goodbye to the press beta and gearing up for the next phase: Early Access Beta. Everyone who signs up at www.gog.com before Sunday September 7 at midnight (EDT), during the next week will receive an access key, which will allow them to dive into the GOG.com site. If you don't receive your access key on Monday, don't worry as we're sending them out in stages.

The Early Access Beta will offer all the main features of the site, including buying DRM-free games, joining the community and writing reviews. Apart from just getting access, everyone buys a game from GOG.com during the Early Access Beta will receive a bonus code to get one game from GOG.com?s Interplay catalogue for free! So what are you waiting for? If you haven?t signed up yet, be sure to enter your email address and get in on the action.

No one is even mentioning the fact that these games will be completely DRM free. That is the most amazing part of this whole deal. I signed up about a month ago when I first heard about in on GFW Radio podcast. I spend $10 and get DRM free copies of Fallout 1&2 that actually runs on my Vista-64 system... I'm getting pumped just thinking about it.

    Edit: Planescape:Torment... THIS MUST HAPPEN

The AD&D license would be the issue with that, I would think, if they have Interplay access already.

Edit: Althought BG2 and PT are on GameTap, so maybe they won't appear here.

Why is Collin McRae Rally 2005 in there? I thought it was meant to be old games.

Uhm, well it did score really high with most critics.

Maybe it should be more accurate, like Good, Old Games.

To be fair, games released in 2004 are old in modern terms. :p

Definately getting Shogo, Perimeter, Kingpin and FreeSpace 2 when I can pull the cash together.

If Shogo is on there, it'd be nice to see some more old Monolith games like the Blood series and the No One Lives Forever (a personal favorite) games.
