A common complaint I hear is that the scale of EU novels is always too much. Every novel tries to be an integral, climactic moment in the world. Of course, that isn't really necessary, and the EU is often at its best when it stays pretty small scale.

So let's list em off. I'm interested primarily in books, but if you want to expand into comics or anything else also, feel free.

    I'll start:

    Kenobi, by JJM.

Haven't read it, but to my understanding the book Scourge is pretty small scale. I actually just ordered a copy. Hoping it's good.

I've also heard that Black Fleet Crisis is a good smaller scale story, in that it involves the entire New Republic, but manages to not have it be another The New Rebellion where the entire Republic/galaxy is at risk.

Kenobi Kenobi Kenobi Kenobi Kenobi Kenobi.

    Sorry, it's just the best.

Would you describe Dark Lord as small-scale? It's stakes weren't particularly high. They look big next to Kenobi, but if Kenobi is our baseline for scale then nothing else is small-scale.

Scourge is really good, IMO. And like the above user said...Kenobi.

Ok, what's the deal with that book? Is it any good?

Edit: rumsmuggler I, Jedi is an obvious one I missed. Good catch.

No one has said Starfighters of Adumar yet. Shame on all of you. All of the Alston X-Wing books are comparatively small scale, but SoA is a perfect example of how entertaining what is essentially a no-stakes story can be.

The short story anthologies, especially Tales from the New Republic and Tales from the Empire, contain numerous shorter tales that capture spirit of Star Wars in a way some of the novels don't. I can't recommend Paul Danner's two short stories from Tales from the New Republic, The Last Hand and No Disintegrations, Please, enough.

I heartily recommend "Scoundrels" - for those not in the know, Ocean's Eleven In Space, in the OT era, starring Han, Chewie and Lando, written by Timothy Zahn. That one's pretty good. The only problem is that Han and Lando have to sort of make up so the book can work, but also be mad at each other by the end so that Empire Strikes Back can still happen. (As someone else said, "you've got a lot of guts coming here, after what you pulled the last dozen times I saw you.")

I also second I, Jedi (depending on whether you liked Corran) and Starfighters of Adumar (on general principle because it's the funniest book in the EU).

The MedStar Duology also comes to mind, it focuses on a handful of characters who work at a medical unit during the Clone Wars (MASH in space is an accurate description).

Those little vignettes from WEG's sourcebooks such as "Picutorion Viewed From the Top", "Death of a Rebel Base", and the scandocs sent between Dr. Tobias and Hyndis Kogler were pretty awesome.

He I love Kennedy artwork, just the coloration in that Boba Fett comic series is beyond hope (unlike in lets say Agent of Doom, where it just works so much better) and the other Wagner stories are just far better. The Jabba Tape for example is brilliant in the sheer insanity of it.

Dark Times. Can't recommend those comics enough (I have a feeling I'm getting boring by bringing that title this often :p).

Also I agree with others who mentioned Knight Errant.
