Was there ever an implication that an R3 model, for example, was an improvement/successor of an R2?

    In the EU, certainly:

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R-series

and even TCW mentions "R-series" at one point.

Yes, but it doesn't mean that R2, R3, R4, and so on aren't concurrent models. Some can just be better at certain tasks than others.

And the EU did acknowledge that with specialist variants - the R4 was cheaper and aimed more at the general market, and the R5 was cheaper still.

I swear that they mention that the R3 series is relatively new.

But in previous episodes, there was an R6 (for example). I don't think we can imply a linearity.

I think it's plausible that the "linear evolution" exists - that the R6 model entered service after the R2.

But couldn't there be R2-D1 and R2-D2 etc. - i.e. a line of R2 droids with different models specialized for different tasks? And R1 and R3's, etc. are similar but different than R2 droids?

One could assume there would be anything from an R2-A1 to R2-Z999

Here's a question for the older fans who have seen the "uncut" Ep IV (Star Wars) or VHS affectionadoes:
My mother, who is old enough to have seen ANH in theaters, insists that "Jabba was a man, not a slug." and that the puppet-slug in Return was a retcon.
What I've read tells me this: a scene was filmed with a man wearing a furry coat & vest playing Jabba, but that scene was cut from the final film, and that "scrap" footage was used for later releases with cgi jabba put over the original "dummy" actor. Of course, neither theaters nor TV syndication would show deleted scenes, nor would a vhs tape, so if the scene was truly deleted and not in the original movie there's no way she would have known it. Can anyone tell me why she's remembering this? Was it included in a deletes scenes feature of one of the later dvd releases?

Are there Force-sensitive families in Canon? Of course, exceptions to the Skywalkers. I know there was Corran Horn and all the Hornettes in the EU and the Dorsk series of clones, some of which were Force-sensitive. But Ki-Adi Mundi had kids. I'm sure there were uncles and aunts of others. I'm thinking about Exar Kun or Naga Sadow or some of the big baddies. Do you think any of them might have had a distant cousin who was a Jedi or Sith?

I have an odd question. Why does Yoda walk with a cane when he was doing flips and flailing everywhere fighting Count Dooku in TCW? Is it a gag?

His Force Fuel ran out...ok, a flippant answer, but that is essentially what the novel says.

Large parts of the unaltered scene were included in a 1983 TV documentary called From Star Wars to Jedi, and also in a 1997 TV special about the Special Editions. That's where the material for that clip comes from.
I'd say she remembered it from the 1983 doco on TV - it wasn't actually included on the DVDs or the 2011 Blu-Ray set. The doco was included on the legendary 1995 UK-only 'Executor' box set of the OT on VHS and laserdisc, however, and it was also available on its own on VHS through the SW fanclub in the early-to-mid 1990s.

And no, the scene with Declan Mulholland playing Jabba has never been included in a publicly shown cut of the film itself - the first time the scene was included was the 1997 SE, in which Mulholland was replaced by the CGI Jabba. The 1977 comic adaptation did include the scene, but Jabba was portrayed as an alien:

Incidentally, SW.com did release From Star Wars to Jedi a couple of years ago officially on YouTube:

Is the phrase, "Light-Side of the Force" canon? As per the films, I'm saying that this claim is false. Someone said that because this phrase was used in a TFA trailer that now it's canon. My perspective is that the Force is good by nature and the Dark Side is a corruption of the Force. Is there something from Lucas or in any canon info about this subject?

Nobody ever in the OT referred to an "R4", all "R4" units are actually "R2" units, it's a misnomer somehow created when they made toys of this R2 unit and nobody ever thought it might be a good idea to correct this error.

Luke and Threepio refer to "Red" at Lars Homestead as an "R2 unit", so does "Blue" Red Leader in the original screenplay during a technical problem during the Death Star battle: "R-2, shut off the main feed to the starboard engine. Hang on tight, this could get rough".

While Artoo might belong to the R2-D2 series, the "bucketheads" could be the R2-D4 series while the "coneheads" probably belong to the R2-D6 series.

Exactly! George Lucas should have been well aware of that.

He tossed away his lightsaber to show to both Vader and Sidious that he truly believed Vader was redeemable. He also did it to prove to them that he would not be corrupted by the temptations of Sidious in order to be seduced to the dark side.

Is there a thread devoted to the issue of viewing order? My cousin watched the series for the first time in episodic order, and had no idea that Anakin would fall to the dark side. I am just interested in reading other people's reactions to this idea and thought I'd ask here before posting a new thread.

Well if you want a canon answer, there isn't one for certain. It does seem that humans are the most numerous species, but it is nowhere confirmed. If we take into consideration the EU, then humans are indeed the most numerous species.
