It's a "deal with the devil" sort of situation, walking the gray line between good and evil. Sort of like the Gordon in the Dark Knight trilogy. Both Gordons lie to protect what they believe to be the greater good. They both compromise their own integrity towards that cause.

    Edit:

Also, as I recall, comic book Gordon was no saint himself.

Man, Butch's still, Hugo's treatments, Friee's failed test subjects... the show really doesn't flinch on the gore.

Yeah, a mix of time period elements gives things a malleable anachronistic nature. It's kinda why it can simultaneously feel like a pseudo prequel to the West, Nolan & DCEU Batverses to one degree or another.

I thought that was a good episode.

I like seeing Lori Petty again, but it was like she was giving the same performance she gave in Orange is the New Black.

    Alfred, Alfred, Alfred.

Young Master Wayne is going up fast.

"For a butler, you sure get beaten up a lot."
"Again, we're the police. Don't tell us things like that!"

    Oh, Bullock.

Bullock is great. I'm glad he gets some of the best lines. However, it seems like he's been on the sidelines lately.

Hopefully they'll do an episode dedicated to him. He just sort of returned to the GCPD without any explanation about what happened to his girlfriend and life as a bartender. He was definitely given more screen time last year, but the show has become so obsessed with its villains that nothing else seems to matter anymore. It's going the way of the old Schumacher films (ie. cram the thing full of villains and just see if anything good comes of it).

Loved it! Oswald cutting the guy free that had just kicked his butt. Bruce putting the gun down. All those powerful moments! Very nice!

What's the future of Dr. Strange and his assistant? I feel like I've heard the names, but don't know them much.

Well, Hugo Strange plays a prominent role in the Arkham City video game. Maybe you've cross him then.

Also, Marvel has a character and movie coming out this year called Dr. Strange. So there's that for familiarity.

Last two episodes have been pretty good- everything with Bruce and Alfred in particular though Riddler's story has been interesting- though I wish it had been kicked off by less of an overreaction/misunderstanding and more of something intentional, given the consequences it's had on Gordon. Seeing Tank Girl show up was fun too.

Curious where Penguin's story is going- Hugo still has a plan for hm and there is implied sinister vibes with the family at the end. Is it real? Be a shame to bring back Reubens for an imposter.

Last night was incredible! Ed really started coming into his own. That trap he set for Gordon was masterful.

Agreed on Reubens. I sat up when I saw him, said to my wife, "Ain't that Pee Wee Herman??"

So, the last few episodes have been pretty crazy, from Penguin's bloody return to Ed's plot to Azrael to Hugo's large-scale efforts that explain everything... this season really has covered a lot of ground. It feels like 2 seasons ago that Barnes was introduced.

I like the idea of turning Galavant into Azrael but I don't think the actor (who was great as Galavant) is the right match for Azrael.

At the end of the shot of Bruce awe-struck at the sight of Azrael escaping all Bat-like, I jokingly expected him to enthusiastically go "Cool!!!" ;).

Azrael is an identity worn by many in the Order of Saint Dumas. Theo isn't Jean Paul Valley, but he can still be an Azrael

And I'm fine with that- I just don't find his voice to be a good match.

If it's just the voice, that can be dubbed. Right, Lord Vader?

There's only so much you can do while still making it be Galavant.

Well, this week's episode just managed to top all previous random badass insanity.

"You should know by now that bullets don't kill this monster, Jim. My last one got stuck in your throat, so I'm thinking about shoving this one somewhere else."

    "You're welcome."

Yeah, this episode was like 18 kinds of awesome... it was the first time in a while, even with some craziness, the show was legitimately... good?
