Amph Gotham - the TV series

Big fan of the Batman films & comic book; I like how Gotham city is depicted in those (especially 1989's Batman & 2005's Batman Begins), i.e. the city is as much a character in the film as Batman himself.

The trailer looks interesting - the question/concern I have is whether they can build a successfull TV series around the city without it becoming a standard, rote crime drama (which I've seen enough of over the years)...That being said, I'll catch the first several episodes of this to see how it turns out...

 

Gotham will be filming outside my apartment on Monday night.

I, of course, won't be there.

I saw the pilot. Don't be too concerned about the laundry list of cameos. They are done well even though the promos make it look like they are all thrown in with the kitchen sink. Cobblepot and Fish Mooney are featured most in the pilot. It's dark, seedy Gotham and Gordon is surrounded by corruption while trying to do the right thing. I'm excited to see where this series goes.

 

I've been skimming the reviews and they seem to be overwhelmingly positive. Amazing as it sounds, I haven't had a "show" since 24 went off the air the first time. I'm pretty hyped about Gotham. Maybe it'll be the one.

 

I want to try this show, because a pre - Batman Gotham seems like an interesting concept to bring to life in live - action, but my head keeps telling me "It's on FOX, you'll get your heart broken." and is pretty much overriding any desire to even remotely try the series.

 

Gotham at 8. Which is when the Voice is on.

*sighs* It's like Fox/fate is sending me a sign: "yes, we'll be cancelling it soon enough, so no reason to watch this."

 

Will check this show out.

 

Actually looking forward to this. Maybe because it's something to watch for a Monday.

Still, I doubt the show will change my opinion that they should have just adapted "Gotham Central" instead.

 

I'll try to watch it tonite but I'm still trying to give a **** about this show. My expectations are about as low as they can possibly be, just in case.

 

"There will be light?" Nope, not for him. Talking to the wrong cape, Jimbo.

 

I'm down for watching this show. One thing, though. I would find it hard to have the show's story (if they get one) eventually end on some sort of high note. Isn't Gordon destined to fail? He doesn't clean up the city and all of these various characters eventually become Batman supervillians. I guess it could end on a small moral victory (see: Batman: Year One) but Gordon can't ultimately succeed in bring peace of Gotham because eventually Batman needs to take matters into his own hands. Yes, I know the show can't show Batman but you'd figure it's endpoint would be about half a second before Bruce becomes A Bat and that means Gotham is pretty much, eventually, boned.​

 

It's not appalling so far...Riddler is perfect but Harvey is absolutely perfect.

It's for dumb people, and in case they don't already know, she was playing with flowers, just so you REALLY know.

 

I know. Just kvetching a bit and all that.

 

They've got the look of Gotham down.
