In fact in vacuum shouldn't he withstand absence of pressure there is more pressure inside the pod because there is air- well maybe he meant his own body pressure- but that sentence is pretty funny when you think about it- like there would be more pressure outside the pod- it's like magnetic gunpowder in KOTCS or parsecs of the Kessel Route -come on George don't use physical terms if you know nothing about them:p it's embarassing to watch- parsec thing was nicely retconned by EU but gunpowder just has no iron or anything that would react to magnet.....

While i know there is no possibility to hear sound in space- i found it first bit stupid they talked each other there- i always thought sound effects in space are more like background music- not really 'existing' there just added to create the atmosphere (where is none:p ).... but then it's said Plo has commlink built inside his mask (there is those things going to his ears or his ears going to those things whatever- the "pipes" so that's probably why he can talk with clones there....) i have no probs with Plo's alienity if that would be his only superhuman trait- i would be fine with him- i still think Trench is similar "freak" and didn't really die in the Cat and Mouse.........

I'm not sure if it's the same with the Finnish subtitles (if you're using subtitles), but in English, because he did not specify what type of pressure he was referring to, it could mean either high or low. It's similar to saying something like, "I can withstand the temperature for a brief time" -- it could refer to either high or low temperature.

Exactly. "I can withstand the pressure" applies to low pressures just as much as high pressures.

Ok- it's not just subtitles you know but entire difference in language i guess:p it sounds to me that if you "withstand pressure" it would mean there is higher pressure where he goes- i understand the temperature-parallel though so i guess there is no problem then it works pretty much similarly in finnish too- i watched it with subtitles yes but rarely depend on them they have lot of errors...... but "lack of pressure" would've made more physical sense i would say or simply i can withstand vacuum or space or something- if he would've said he can withstand temperature it sounds like there would be warm out there while yes he could also refer to cold.....

anyway i guess there is no problem then:D .....

but "withstand" just means basically it's not going to kill you, it's a neutral action. "The Pressure" is also neutral. ;)

Pressure is relative. All Plo means is he can withstand the difference in pressure.

I would give this episode an 8/10. It was nice to see things like the Ion Cannon and the Twilight. Seeing Palpatine in this episode was cool too. Also annoying droid humor or not the Clones being sucked into space was pretty dramatic. I also liked how Grievous and Plo Koon were potrayed in this episode.

However once again though the droid humor prevented me from giving this episode a perfect score. Although thankfully it was better than the droid humor in Ambush and it was in smaller and thus more tolerable amounts.

The thing is, even humans can survive in a vacuum for approximately 10-30 seconds, and then they die of hypoxia.

Bodies blowing up and exploding or freezing instantaneously is just science fiction.

There is not much actual scientific exploration what exactly will happen for living humanbody in vacuum- simply because testing it is impossible without torturing or killing someone.... but probably it won't explode really... anyway sorry there is no problem with pressure line....

For the benefit of science fiction, the next space mission should really carry a cadaver up there and dump it into space to see what happens.

It's not the same thing since living body is totally different with heart pumping and all....

I know it's not the same thing. But pretty similar in terms of how it's affected by negative pressure.

Of course, what we really need is a brave volunteer.

It's already happened accidentally during extremely high altitude flights, they already have proof.

I believe they've also done deliberate experiments on animals and the results were consistent.

I believe it's also happened during artificially created vacuums.

CT et al. are correct -- NASA's done a ton of studies on this using live animals, the results of which can be found here. Many of the reports they mention in the bibliography can be found on the internet.

In many cases, the animals not only survived, but had no lingering side effects afterward.

Crazy to imagine that space might not be such a hostile environment as we always believed.

Indeed. I could say that Plo Koon in space doesn't bug me as much after some reading... (Not just Plo Koon, but space slugs and mantas. :)

So they are basically saying that Space is like SCUBA diving? Why not just take a oxygen backpack then with perhaps a helmet so the moisture in your mouth does not boil?

Interesting. The premise is good. I like Plo Koon; I especially nice his nice action and his care for the clones; he's got points in my book.

Grievous was scary, but I loved it :D I'm still not that into Ahsoka. Anakin was good; I like seeing the blend of maturity and recklessness.

Overall, I think I'll give this a 6. It's not as good as Ambush.

Edit: Dustin, that photo is gross :p

I wasn't a big fan of the space thing, particularly since Plo has exposed skin, but the not-human thing lets me stretch believability.

Yeah, for some, it's not so much WHAT he does as WHY he does it. :p

Maybe this episode, more than others, stretches my optimism further with nostalgia. So I got cautious and gave it a 9. [face_laugh]

One point docked because at times, the readings were a little flat or didn't quite match the expressions (or vice versa).

But yeah, this is a great example of one aspect of classic Star Wars. And of course, it helped to further my own fandom for Plo Koon. :D

    8. Another solid and memorable episode.

Great way to introduce Plo Koon, who reminds me more of Yoda in the films than TCW Yoda does.

The whole stuck in an escape pod plot was interesting and pod poppers were cool as well.

Did you ever watch the film Titan A.E? In it, two guys jump into space, and exhale to prevent themselves from dying. For a cartoon, its actually one of the most accurate depictions of vacuum that you could find.

But since Plo isn't affected by the change in pressure for whatever reason, the next quickest way to die would be from radiation. And since they are very close to a star, he should have been dead within minutes, turned into bacon.

Meh. He comes from a planet situated precariously between two black holes. I think the standard rules of evolution we're used to wouldn't quite apply. :p
