My god Falor the Tvtropes have gotten into your head....

9 for me. It was just so different and bizarre. I've never cared much for the prophecy apart from the bring balance to the force deal, but this offers some interesting insight.

the visuals were great, and it was a joy to see and hear Qui Gon again.
I am reserving most of my judgment for the end of the arc, but this was a good start.

The only negative I have is that Ahsoka's Adult Model is hideous.

Not surprising, considering I regularly edit TVTropes. :D

I'm just going to cut and paste my review from now on as I usually say the same thing. I expected major continuity destruction which didn't happen. Top notch animation, awesome animation, and terrible dialogue.

Not much I can say that hasn?t already been covered already, but anyway. A near flawless episode; at least as near as flawless as Star Wars can get. The mythological components of the story are jacked up to 11 and I love it!

    10/10

This is the best episode of the entire series, and if this arc keeps up the momentum I believe it will be the highlight of TCW.

7/10. I liked this episode, but more in a "this is interesting" than a "this is awesome" sort of way. I thought that the pacing was better here than it was in the last few episodes, but I'm not yet feeling quite the same level of enthusiasm towards arc as I did towards the Nighsisters trilogy. Nontheless, I like the fact that they're trying something different here.

Gave it a nine. Seeing Qui-Gon Jinn, voiced by Liam, was awesome. While I believe the episode most likely needs the other two to really make it good, I think this one was alright on it's own.

I gave it an 8. It was awesome for a Star Wars episode, but it ran the cliched symbolism path quite a bit. And it was completely predictable.

Kudos to them for trying something different from the rest of the series at least. Reminded me of the old SW Marvel comics.

8 for now, though my mind may change after this arc is over.

Conditional 7/10, to be bumped up to 8/10 depending on how the other 2 episodes play out.

Animation was incredible, although I'm not sure about Kenobi's new model.

Ahsoka's adult look is as expected, but Ashley Eckstein's voice doesn't fit a mature Jedi Master or whatever IMHO. "Look! Ahsoka is 50 years old but still sounds 14!!!"

Some hackneyed dialogue as usual (and Ahsoka with some awesome Captain Obvious moments).

Still don't really get the different(?) take on the Force/balance/the Chosen One, but as I said, we could get some more clarity.

As I originally said, really felt like Shore Leave from Star Trek:TOS, and definitely a heavy Pandora (the most recent reference). Felt like the "Force Wielders" (that's the best name they can come up with, it's like a mistranslation) were god-like super-evolved aliens the crew encountered every 4th episode or so in Star Trek.

Broke down and gave it a ten...they had to have balls to make this episode in my opinion. Other than that I think I put what I loved about it best in my first post after watching:

I don't think that was Ashley Eckstein voicing adult Ahsoka. I think it as Adrienne Wilkinson. Don't quote me on that though. :p

By the way I gave the episode a 10. It was just so different and executed(IMO) so well that it deserved the 10, it could go down though depending on how the arc goes. I hope it doesn't though. My hopes were high for once and weren't letdown by the episode. It obviously had some cheesy dialogue, especially with Ahsoka but that is expected most of the time in TCW.

Sorry i quoted you:p - but i agree she sounds both actually- that's interesting it would mean it was indeed daughter[face_thinking] but who spoke in the recording then Ashley or Adrienne?..... and she was not 50 but 30 or so and you know Ashley really sounds like that and she is not any teengirl so i see no problem damn it it's not her fault she sounds young.... actually she sounds very good in that scene IMO

Star Wars is not suffering any syndrome- it is a messiah-story - you obviously hate star wars why to watch it at all.....i don't understand you

Back from vacation like Odysseus from the land of the dead. :p

Gave it an 8. Didn't get my pulse racing, being slow and philosophical. On the other hand, it had the absolutely desired effect on my mental faculties: Lots of meaningful philosophy at the surface and just below. Exotic locale, breathtaking visuals, and a pretty epic mythology scope. It also showed great character moments for the hero trio and those around them. A common flaw is the running time doesn't let them show as much as they want, but here I thought that every word and their delivery held so much meaning. Definitely got me looking forward to this whole trilogy!

And Liam Neeson is a huge, huuuuuge plus. :D

EDIT: Also: A gryphon, my favourite mythological animal, plus light visuals. I have found something more to nerd-squee over. And I don't mean watches-the-show-and-Star-Wars nerd, I mean rolls-d20s-and-cosplays-as-a-Jedi nerd. :D

The symbolism is what really gave it that rank for me. I loved the Griffin and the Gargoyle forms of Son and Daughter. And I loved how they represent the light and dark side and the Father is the balance.

Also Shmi and Qui-Gon were great touches and getting the Liam Neeson and Pernilla August to voice them made it feel really like Star Wars.

Yeah when I first watched the episode I couldn't believe how spot-on the voice acting was for Shmi...then I read people here saying it was actually the actress from Ep. I. What a great, great touch!

    10

That rating also takes into account the feedback posted here, which was extremely insightful. For me Overlords had the strongest thematic connection to the films of any episode I've seen to date. It opened up discussion on religion and philosophy and made us think. The inclusion of more actors from the films and the classic Williams themes seal the deal!

10/10. Loved it on every level. If this had been my first TCW episode I'd have thought this was a far out brilliant show. That it was taking SW to new levels. I also gotta give it big points for having characters who are "beyond" Sith and Jedi. A smart, dreamy episode with more than a splash of old school fantasy in a series more noted for combat and politics.

Even though this is not the highest graded episode (Nightsisters hold that mark with an 8.55 average), it certainly has the greatest amount of perfect 10s assigned to it.

Looking at the graph as its evolving, it's nice to see that the grades have suddenly plateaued since Nightsisters, while before they were chaotic and often stumbling. Let's see what episode is going to break this good trend....

It may not have a higher mean score, but Nightsisters has a median score of 9, whereas Overlords has a median score of 10, which INHO better reflects what you're getting at.

Hummm... yeah. I wonder if it would be fairer to start using the median average.....

Yeah, it's an interesting exercise. Check out the season graph so far, comparing the mean and median averages:

It's pretty well matched, except the true highs and lows reflect better the overall reaction, especially the current upward trend.
