I have a Civil War daily calendar and each day it gives me quotes, factoids, and other interesting tid-bits about the war. Well, for Memorial day the calendar told the story of how the holiday came about. One phrase caught my eye--they used the term ?Grand Army of the Republic?.

Now we know where that may of come from.

    Did you ever read Dune?

Lucas modeled Tattoine after Dune, it's so obvious.

No, never read Dune. But what does this have to do with the Grand Army of the Republic and the Civil War?

I'm just saying where Lucas got inspirations for other things in the movies.

I just figured it was neat that such a term was used in real life and had nothing to do with fantasy or Sci-fi.

Napoleon's army was also called the "Grande Armee."
