They weren't full games, but add-ons. You needed GTA1 to play these short games or add-ons.

And below are some of the gameplay details released at E3.

You can recruit gang memebers for missions.

Up to four people can take part in drive-by missions.

San Andreas is NOT a city, but a state. This state will feature 3 main cities; Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturra.

Each one of the cities is as big as the one featured in GTA: Vice City. Thus, the game will be about 3-4 times bigger than the last GTA.

You play a character called Carl Johnson

A new satmina meter will be vital to the gameplay, forcing you to eat.

Insides of buildings will be improved, allowing room for burglary.

The game takes place in the 1990s.

 

if "**** tha police" is not on the soundtrack i'm going to be very disappointed.

sounds like Rockstar has another winner on their hands.

 

Apparently properties and assets will play a bigger part now. You purchase/develop them and then get to make use of them. It's also likely that you will develop them by doing missions for them.

No guarentee at the moment but I assume that air travel will become very popular in San Andreas. Moving from city to city by air is a strong possibility.

 

Holy God. Three cities each the size of Liberty and Vice? Mama sita.

Getting some real Friday/Boyz vibes off this one...

 

This game will be massive. I just hope that they implement some new, original ideas.

 

Here's some news from the June issue of Game Informer...

-ride bicyles
-house robberies
-you can get fat by eating, then go to the gym and work out. if you stay fat, people on the street call you a "fat bastard"
-in between the cities, there is country side, a mountain, desert
-you can wield two pistols at the same time
-you have your own gang
-you can build and run a casino in La Venturra (Las Vegas)
-you can obtain skills which are required for certain missions
-even side missions affect the story
-SWIMMING!!

I've been hoping that they would include that in a GTA game for a long time. Please let it be true. I've always wanted to go around natural environments.

 

This game has me drooling. I will so buy it when it comes out.

 

you know where this is going dont you? MMO baby...its coming. if they pull this off, and i think they will, the next version will surely be MMO.

They could so easily turn the series into an online game - and I'm thinking that it would be a sure fire hit.

Here's a few more tidbits

-Los Santos=Los Angeles
-San Fierro=San Francisco
-La Venturra=Las Vegas
-smog in Los Santos
-there will be characters from the past
-ragdoll physics (aka "Impact Animation") like what is in Half Life 2 and Max Payne 2
-police helicopters have spotlights
-a lot more fully rendered interiors
-main character is Carl Johnson. in his gang are his brother Sweet, long time family friend, Smoke, and another guy named Ryder
-money is going to play a lot bigger role in SA

Here's an official plot summary

Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.

Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.

On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.

Pretty cool. Looks like we'll be BMXing in and around SA.

 

Is it me or is this game sounding and looking better and better?

Love all the screenshots I've seen and the details so far from the game definitely mean this will be the best game this year (or its definitely a contender with how its sounding).

Ditto. This game is going to seriously rock. I just can't wait to run away from the cops and end up in the mountains.

 

I think there are too many things that will be great to do, I agree that running from the cops into the mountains will be fantastic, but the little things like doing home burglaries and such will be awesome too.

From the scope that they seem to suggest we're going to be able to do nearly anything and everything possible for this type of game.
