As most people probably know by now that the PS2 can't handle the vast coverage of stuff on SA, they have done somthin with the disc, made it more like a DVD disc or sumthin, i dunno, i dont know the technical stuff about the games I just play 'em! But apparently instead of a long pause hen you enter a building theres aroung a 0.5 second pause because of this DVD thing. If anyone has any further information on this..... POST IT

It's uber-compressed and multi-layered (more than usual),
Also, both III and Vice City were also on DVD discs; the ones for San Andreas just happen to be mega-packed.

Rockstar say it will be fine and only pause for a while when you enter buildings, but maybe it will be abit laggy and will screw up, i dunno

Yeah about that "Grand Theft Auto : Sin City" thing. Im actually quite glad they scrapped using those (quite actually retarded) names and gone to normal names. For me, this alone is a BIG step in the right direction, I mean c'mon, Liberty City, thats really stupid if you think about it, however the city itself is pure genious. The only thing i don't like about San Andreas, is that all the city names are ripped off others.

- I'm glad I got that off my chest (no offense to anyone who designed those names)

I think the "ripped off" names of the cites was intentional, because the cites were to be based off their real life counterparts.

how come they cant use the real city names like los angeles and san fransisco ? plenty of other games use real life locations and names . I understand why they cant use real car names because its copyrighted but city names can be used by anyone . it would make it more realistic to call the three citys by there real names .

I agree, if they used the real names of the citys they would have to create almost lifelike versions of the actual towns, I think they should think up names like "San Andreas", but not create names like "Jealous City". How stupid would that be?!

Also, does anyone know the OFFICIAL soundtrack to the game. I've heard all the forums ideas, but this was what was in Official PS2's UK magazine in the August Edition: (I can't do that curvy writing some people do)

Pop:
Salt'N'Pepa - Push It
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby
Inner Circle - Bad Boys
KLF - 3am Enternal
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy

Rock:
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
Poison - Every Rose Has Its' Thorns
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Smashing Pumpkins - Today

Rap:
NWA - **** Tha Police/100 Miles Runnin'
Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin N' Juice/Ain't No Fun
Warren G - Regulate
Fugees - Killing Me Softly
Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
Public Enemy - Rebel Without A Pause

Indie:
The Stone Roses - Fools Gold
Happy Mondays - Step On
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
Radiohead - Creep

I think this is a good example of tracks that COULD be on the game. I am not TOTALLY POSITIVE they will be on the game, but the magazine seems to be. If anyone knows, I would like to know what the Radio Stations will be like (Genrewise), and what they will be called.

Gotta star the whole word out

New article up at Gamespy.com, this'un covering the "food system" used in the game:

Eatin' Good in the Neighborhood (PS2)

From fat to thin in 60 seconds -- we look at the wonderful world of food in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
By Bryn Williams | July 28, 2004

It's only been a few weeks since GameSpy published its huge blowout feature on Rockstar's insanely highly anticipated PS2 title: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The article received a tremendous response from you guys, and so it's now our solemn mission to bring you every single update and scrap of information regarding CJ and his homeboy brethren. This time around, Rockstar has released new information regarding the "food" system that's been woven into the gameplay. We've got the first official screens of CJ binging on junk food, both in a before and after fashion, along with details as to how this will all affect his performance and your gameplay experience. Chow down on this:

Binge and Purge

Just like any good boy, CJ needs to eat well in order to remain in good physical condition. San Andreas' HUD will sport a hunger alert that will inform the player when CJ gets peckish. If CJ doesn't eat and blatantly ignores his hunger pangs, he'll start to lose his energy level. This means he might not be able to run or pedal as fast as before, or even punch as hard in a fight. His clothes will start to hang off his body as he drops the weight, too.

[image=http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/image/article/534/534175/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-20040728021912780.jpg]
("Pull your pants up, son.")

On the flip side of the coin, should the player elect to force CJ to eat nothing but pizza and burgers, he'll soon pack on the pounds, and there may even be a one or two vomiting incidents along the way (if he pukes, you'll not be able to buy more food for a set amount of time). His running speed will get slower and his clothes begin to bulge out more and more. He'll start to waddle around instead of running, and all of his character model animations will be affected suitably.

It seems as though the best way to progress will be to understand the benefits of a proper, well-balanced diet (who would have thought it, eh?), along with the correct calorie intake to match. A tasty snack after completing a particularly energy-sapping stretch of a mission is important, but everything should be considered in moderation.

Fight the Flab

If CJ finds himself resembling the Pillsbury Dough Boy, then it's up to the player to shape up or ship out. Luckily, CJ will be able to work out in different locations including the gym. A decent workout is just as important for weight maintenance as it is for building muscle mass and strength. A healthy CJ will be sleeker, faster, and stronger, and will recover a from hectic physical encounter more quickly.

[image=http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/image/article/534/534175/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-20040728021912952.jpg]
("Sticks and stones...")

With two factors to consider, fat and muscle, it will be down to the player's individual tastes as to how they want to hone CJ's physique. Rockstar promises that this relatively simple sounding premise is actually surprisingly deep and subtle, affecting gameplay more than you may think at first. We'll be getting more in-depth specifics soon.

Grab Some Grub

Now that we know that CJ is a man that enjoys grubbing down on a regular basis (put on too much weight and snobby civilians on the streets will shout out rude words), let's take a look at some of the eateries that he'll be frequenting:

[image=http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/image/article/534/534175/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-20040728021912483.jpg]
("Serve me, chump.")

Rockstar's Leslie Benzies commented, "One of the things that stood out to us when researching Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was the eno

There's a new feature online over at PS2.ign.com, whom have had special access to Rockstar Studios, allowing them to see the game up and running. The feature is a great read, along with over 20 new screenshots.

Here are a few bits from the lengthy feature.

Getting Tattoos

Everyone is already familiar with the fact that CJ can visit his barber Reece to change hairstyles and what not, but that's not the only level of customization available. Gamers can also alter the their clothes and body type so that they can become exactly the kind of gangsta they want to be (Should I be buff CJ with cornrows or fat CG with an Afro? Decisions, decisions). But perhaps none of the available customization options are as unique as the ability to add tattoos.

[image=http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/534/534690/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-20040730111418436.jpg]

To do so, CJ must first find himself a tattoo parlor, the first of which just so happens to be next to Reece's Hair and Facial Studio. Once inside, he'll be able to select his tattoo from a long list of available styles for the body part he wants to ink. The majority of these tattoos are made up of gang affiliations, gang-related lingo, and other similar things that are drawn in styles that were popular for 1990s-era Los Angeles.

"We wanted people to be in complete control of their characters," remarked Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North. "If they didn't like the way he dressed, they could earn enough money to buy new clothes. The tattoo feature works the same way, only the motivation is different. If you were in a gang, you'd get a gang tattoo showing that."

To make sure they got it right, the Rockstar team worked very closely with the famous Los Angeles tattoo artist Mister Cartoon -- who's probably known best for his involvement with the small indie film, Ink the Movie. Once Mister Cartoon was on board, it was time to flesh out some of the more important aspects of the tattoos and the philosophies behind them. The inks for Los Santos peeps, for instance, are usually gang names, guns, and women; featuring a strong emphasis on the color black with patterns and styles reminiscent of those found from the area in the 90s (think Boyz N the Hood and you'll get the right idea).

Cars Getting Dirty

Driving around the dusty state of San Andreas can really put the hurt on your vehicle in terms of its cleanliness. In fact, as you drive around the various cities, you may notice that people around here don't seem to like to wash their cars -- the friggin' things are filthy!

[image=http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/534/534690/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-20040730111417936.jpg]

Should players get their hands on a brand new spotless car, they might want to take note that it won't stay that way for long; as consistent use of that vehicle will begin to accumulate a whole lot of muck for it. Dirt, for instance, will begin to appear on and around the wheel wells and impact areas brought on by traffic accidents. Driving through parks and other sections with overhead filth sources can move grime and dust to the surface areas of your windshield. And unless you can find a car wash to keep your car clean and shiny, it may even rust over time if used too much.

[image=http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/534/534690/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-20040730111416561.jpg]

As an added bonus, the NPC characters of San Andreas seem to play by the same rules you do. As not only will their cars remain dirty if left uncleaned as we mentioned earlier, but they'll sport broken windows, loose bumpers, and bullet-riddled doors too. If you're looking for any more proof that Rockstar is trying to move its game into as persistent a world as possible -- this is it.

Gang Tactics

[image=http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/534/534690/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-20040730111417655.jpg]

Should players do well enough in the gang's social circle, being chased b

I saw a picture in gameinformer of a cop hanging on the rear of the car and it reminded me of the T-1000. This game is going to revolutionize gaming with the feeding your character feature, which in other games was there or boosted you health, now you actually need it.

I hope that some of those "confirmed" aren't really confirmed, cuz Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise and the Fugees' Killing me softly both came out in '95/'96 and this game is supposed to be in the EARLY '90's.
