VIDEO Grand Theft Auto VI

    The argument was that GTA 3 was the game that put the franchise on the map. That's what the sales tell you.

    GTA was a well regarded niche title. GTA3 popularised an entire genre. But that doesn't have much to do with how much you like them.

    Exactly. The game which happened to be the highest grossing should have no bearing on how I rank the game.

    That's fine. Personally, I'd rank the first two titles of the franchise at the bottom.

    I loved the simplicity and grittiness of those two games. You need to remember that back then a top-down type game like that was usually a Zelda or a Pokemon game. Instead, GTA gives us this Scorsese Taxi Driver type thing with dirty graphics to match. It suited the theme of the game perfectly because upon first glance it just looked like any other top-down game, that is until you began to realise the freedoms of the player. It even rewarded you for going on massacres!
