It's time for a northern appreciation thread. Where are the best places in the north of England? It doesn't have to be a town, it could be a pub, park, hill, anything.

I grew up in the Ulverston area to the south of the map.

Lincoln and surrounding areas. A haven of history and home of Isaac Newton. Plenty of farm shops and Melton Mowbrays :D

For me Manchester: It's home plus it's ace too much to write about.
Masham (N Yorks): Beautiful town and has two of the best breweries in the country
Jaggers Clough (Nr Edale in the peak District): Went walking up it a couple of summers ago, the singly most beautiful place I have ever been, could've stayed there for days

Lake District is nice (although I prefer North Wales), but the best place in the North has to be either:

Thirlmere - Quiet, almost untouched, plus theres a tarn up one side that is simple perfect.
Liverpool - Great city, Albert Dock is a great place, as is Quiggins.
Salford - For some reason I liked it, the whole red-bricked buildings thing.

Teesside - To some it's a dump but its home with some good area's within it.

Middlesbrough - Where all the smart people come from Im told - (must be the Yorkshire water).

Thornaby On Tees - Gateway to County Durham - and last small town on the boarder of North Yorkshire.

York - A great city In the North.

Durham - Another great city up north.

Newcastle - Errr Im trying to think of one !!

Cumbria - Some say its God's secret garden.

And one other place thats best about the North is Its People .

    York - beautiful city
    Lindisfarne - beautiful island
Angel of the North - our iconic Northern statue

Buckies Chippy, Banks (just outside Southport) - best chips and chippy girl to serve them! I jest :p But about which part? hehe.

TimBo, I'd have to argue and say Hippo's by the Ford dealer in Formby has the nicer chippy girl, not sure about the chips though :D

Hey, I even managed to talk to her a little bit the other day, OK so it was just about the weather, but it's a start right?! And I'm sure the extra huge portion of chips means something...[face_love]

The Broomhill Friary in Sheffield is amazing - kept me going after hard nights working behind the bar. Prince Naz and Ainsley Harriot are regulars so there.

My favourite place in the world, never mind the North, is the Lake District. Preferabley Ambleside either eating/drinking in Lucys or sitting on the edge of the Watersedge bar on Windermere drinking the 'bow with the sun setting.mmmm...

    Wish I wasn't at work now. :_|

Broomhill Friary - so I guess it ain't full of monks then? :p

Lake District - big thumbs up to that  Though I am more used to east Cumbria - especially Appleby and Penrith.

Friary is how it is spelt (i'm not dumb) as its a religion for most of its patrons. Went to uni at Sheffield, and my parents STILL go back there, buy a tonne and freeze it - THATS how good it is.

    So there.

Also. Never been to those bits of cumbria. Really love the Sam Smiths pub near the canal in York...
