    IC Vanora

Vanora takes a final look at her supplies. She is satisfied with the contents of her pack. She makes her way to the Temple Hangar and inspects the quick-trip transports. She decides on an X-wing with an R7 astromech, with the nickname Raney. (It has female programming.) She makes sure the translation program is in her datapadd.

She pauses and thinks: "Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a trained healer along, just in case some one is critically injured." She looks over the Temple personnel files and hits upon a likely name. "Hope she's available."

At LONG LAST, the Padawan Tree Hunt. Edited for streamlined reading, and my apologies if some of the formatting is weird... some lines looked odd in the preview and I couldn't figure out how to fix them. Only 2 months late! ;) I promise we haven't been stuck on Endor the whole time...

    PADAWAN TREE HUNT (2017)

    IC: Junko Machi
    Endor landing platform/Endor forest

Junko looked excitedly out the viewport as the shuttle carrying herself and her two fellow Padawans touched down.

Junko looked around at the mammoth trees surrounding them, noticing for the first time just how tall they all were. Hopefully there are some shorter ones nearby! She thought. None of these would fit in the temple!

"Well," she said, turning to Tython and Blade, "any sense of where we should look first?"

    IC: Tython

    Location: Endor Landing

Tython steadied himself as the craft landed on the forest moon on Endor. Such tall trees were found on this moon, making landing look impenetrable on descent. But here they were, all three of them.

"Here is a map that we brought with us from Saridona Prime. Maybe we can ask an Ewok guide if the map is accurate? I have heard the Ewoks are known for giving gracious gifts to friendly visitors and castaways.”
    IC: Blade

    Forest Moon of Endor

Blade exhaled through his mouth and closed his eyes. He tried to center himself and ease his nerves. This was his first off-world mission to Endor and his first mission with Padawans Tython and Machi.

As Blade pondered the answer to Junko's query, Tython eagerly responded, holding out a map.

"That is a sound plan," Blade said, lending his support to Padawan's Tython's idea. "On this moon," he said looking all around him, "we're spoiled for choice. Somewhere out there has to be the perfect tree for Life Day. “
    IC: Tython

Location: Ewok Endor Moon Forest Encounter

They stood there, the three of them, holding the map. No sooner did Tython turn to look over his shoulder when, right there, out of the blue, a band of furry creatures approached them. Yes, these were undoubtedly Ewoks!
"Eedada huutaveet" [Spaceship] The Ewok pointed to the Three Padawans and then pointed purposefully at their spacecraft.
"Eetee?" [long] "Eleeoth?" [far] Treekthin. [Journey] The Ewok stepped forward, spreading out his arms widely as if to show the distance they had traveled through hypersapce.
    "Enya"....[show]....."Entzahee roda?" [cook?]
    "Cora Coatee-cha" [Can you celebrate?!]

And with that lingering word "celebrate," the Ewoks raised their arms high in the air with smiles. A few stomped their feet and clapped their hands, a few rustled tree branches...... Suddenly, before they were plainly aware, the Padawans found themselves lifted up and being carried in a friendly manner.

Verifying the map would have to wait.

The Ewoks would soon put their Jedi Padawan guests at complete ease with the comfort of a fire-cooked meal, dancing, and singing. Their landing on the Forest Moon of Endor had become a joyous reunion between two cultures previously bonded by war against the galactic empire.

    IC: Blade

    Location: Ewok Village Celebation

Blade ate his meal and listened intently as the Ewoks expounded through words and gestures on the Padawans' task; the Ewoks had apparently been expecting them and had designated an area to be set aside for their semi-annual tree hunt.

Blade thanked the Ewok hosts for the meal and their hospitality and turned towards his fellow Padawans. "Shall we head off, then?"
    IC: Tython
    Ewok Village Celebation

During the festivities, Tython’s stomach had become full of treats made from Cambylictus berries. These berries native to Endor forests were used in all sorts of delightful foods, from frothy drinks to dessert pies and everything in between. Indeed, he could barely gulp down the foods passed to him by Ewoks before another treat was soon in-hand.

After the celebation, the chant "Yub Nub" echoed still.
    IC: Junko

    Ewok Village Celebration/Jedi tree patch

The celebrations had been unexpected and delightful. The Ewoks seemed to have understood their guests' desire to move on, because a couple of Ewoks stepped forward, introducing themselves (at least, that's what Junko assumed they were doing), and gesturing for the Padawans to follow them as they moved off deeper into the forest.

As they were led, the Padawans attempted to make light conversation with the Ewoks in Ewokese... "I can't remember," Junko whispered, turning to her companions, "Is it appropriate in Ewok culture to ask after an Ewok's family?" The Ewoks happily jabbered their answers, and Junko did a lot of smiling and nodding, and hoping she didn't come across as rude.

Junko recognized juvenile redwoods and sanctuary trees, both of which were known to flourish on Endor."How do we choose?" Junko mumbled. "Do you think the trees themselves have a preference?"

    IC: Tython

    Jedi Tree Patch

An Ewok walked right up to one of the trees and put his hand on it.
"Yesh, Yun Yum. [Right? I like it.] The Ewok seemed to be saying and gesturing that this tree could be cut down.

    IC: Junko Machi
    Jedi Tree Patch

The Padawans shared a glance after looking at the tree the Ewok indicated. They nodded, smiling encouragingly at the Ewok who had pointed out a tree for them. The Ewok handed one of the Padawans a hand saw to cut down the tree.

Junko pointed questioningly at her lightsaber hilt on her belt and cocked her head at the Ewok who had handed them the saw. "Um... would it be disrespectful if we were to use one of our lightsabers?" She asked, hoping the Ewok got the gist. The small group of Ewoks conferred for a moment, and then nodded at the three Padawans.

"Okay!" Junko said, igniting her blade and cutting a notch into one side of the tree. She nodded at Blade and Tython. Blade made the first cut into the side of the tree opposite the notch. While of course a single blow could have taken the tree down, it was tradition to involve as many Padawans as possible in the felling process. Tython made the final cut through the small trunk, and the three Padawans watched as their tree crashed down, amidst thunderous applause and cheers from the Ewoks.

After another celebration with the Ewoks back at their main dwellings, the Padawans climbed into their ship with the special tree to return home. They thanked the Ewoks profusely and promised that in another year, more Padawans would come to continue the tradition and honor the special relationship the Jedi had with them.

Yay, we finally got it up here in-thread with at least two Padawans working together. It was difficult to coordinate Padawan schedules. We also hope the third member of our team is able to stop in and see it posted. @Blade Of Kenobi

:bluesaber: The outline of Darth Vader's shape matches that of a samurai. Vader's helmet seems to be inspired by samurai.

:bluesaber: Treatment of vulnerable citizens by an imperial regime -- identifying with the citizen's emotions and showing how their struggle can define the quality of life / standard of living that outsiders are willing to give that society. The maltreatment of vulnerable citizens may come to define a society when the history books are written.

:bluesaber: Both stories aim to be epic and intimate at the same time.

    :bluesaber: Jedi vs. JIDAIGEKI

:bluesaber: Both stories portray a warrior-monk group. The warrior monks use swords and rely on a code of honor. The choreography of the swordplay in both films may start to look similar. The positioning of SW characters in certain shots may be a homage to Hidden Fortress.

:bluesaber: The theme of how to be a good person in a corrupt world is in both stories.

:bluesaber: The influence of Westerns is present in both films.

The Jedi and Samurai hold various tenets and try to live by them, defending whom they consider downtrodden. They are groups affiliated with and often embroiled in the conflicts of local or regional leaders. They wear similar clothing such as cloaks, capes, etc. The sword and lightsaber are similar types of weapons. Both groups are and were subject to either vilification or romantic heroism. IC Vanora

When she hears nothing from her comm-message sent to a Healer that is supposedly on staff but must be off-world presently, Vanora heads out to the North Forest. She finds a family of 3, the mother is named dashara and the father Kyle. Their son is Lor. They come from one of the worlds loosely allied with the Hapes Cluster. Their navcomputer went on the fritz forcing an impromptu landing.

"We finally got the computer working again." Kyle said.

"Thankfully, we have no serious injuries." Dashara said as Vanora tended to their light abrasions and contusions.

They were going to visit distant relatives on Selonia.

Lor, a somewhat shy but endearing youngling of 8 years, was fascinated by Vanora and Raney. Vanora smilingly entertained him as she gave him one of the sweeter provisions in her pack, one flavored with caramel and toffee cream.

Raney interfaced with their onboard system to make sure the computer wouldn't go glitzy again and after they reconfigured the next several jumps to Selonia, the family bid Vanora a grateful farewell. Vanora lifted off and returned to the Temple hangar.

    The Jedi and Samurai are similar in several ways;

:bluesaber: The Samurai and Jedi both had a moral and ethical code that was strictly, and rigidly, followed wholeheartedly

:bluesaber: Just as each lightsaber was unique to each Jedi, the Samurai warriors had the same practice with their swords

:bluesaber: Both were extremely loyal and devoted to their warlords/Jedi Masters; in time, they too would become warlords and Jedi Masters

:bluesaber: Only the very best of the Samurai and the Jedi would become masters and they both dedicated themselves fully to this
