    I have a question I had stopped playing galaxies for a while and I want to know...

    Should I play Galaxies or Guild Wars or World of WarCraft?

    I think that this thread might be aimed a bit more in the direction of that question.

    But judging by what I have read in all my time here, it will most likely go WoW, GW then Galaxies. But I would have GW at the top though.

    They are all different in their own respects though.
    Galaxies is SW, and personally I have never played it so consult the above thread link I posted for more info on your question.
    WoW, from what I did play I liked it a lot. But of course it has a subscription fee. Again, post in that link.
    GW is most likely going to be my top of the three. Not just because it is free of subscription, but when I heard about it I was really psyched for it, and I still am. I should have it within the week.
    And for as much as I have seen in this thread alone, this game should kick royal ass.

    The new way to unlock runes has me playing in Arena a lot. It's the quickest way for me to get that Rune of Superior Vigor unlocked. My warrior is celebrating pwning the other team, and so has wandered into a poll of magma and where she has started dancing. Yes, she is on fire. And yes, the dancing is disco style. And yes, I have my MP3 player playing Disco Inferno.

    <img src="http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/discoinferno.jpg">

    I've also been moving along my Ranger. She was actually my very first character, but I moved on to playing an elementalist because it was more fun (re: blow stuff up is dumb and easy). And then a warrior because I wanted skills unlocked. But now I'm back with my ranger, and she just reached the desert. She's attacking a minotaur (off-screen) in this image.

    <img src="http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/rightatya.jpg">

    Finally, I was doing some normal skill-unlocking. That led me to the southern Shiverpeaks, where I got this nice image of the mountains.

    WOW! Can you get a picture of some of the "bad guys" that you can kill? And some in game combat! Oh and do you choose what server your charector is on?

    WOW! Can you get a picture of some of the "bad guys" that you can kill? And some in game combat!

    Certainly. The following images are of my ranger character, who is now setting off across the desert to do the missions needed to Ascend.

    This first is of a battle against some Centaur. You can clearly see the fire arcing from the staffs and rods that my henchmen are using, while my own ranger is about to fire. The Centaur is a little far away, but that's the distance that a ranger is best at.

    <img src="http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/charge.jpg">

    The second came in the middle of a long battle with some hydra. As can be clearly seen, a few are already dead. Mind you, I was almost dead at that point. As I was finishing off the third, another mob came up and attacked, and I ended up running away. Most of my party was dead, but the henchman monk was still alive. Most of the henchmen are good, some of the best bot AI out there. Not so with Alesia. When you need her in the back of your party in order to stay alive, it's certain that she'll be in the front. When you need to sneak somewhere, it's certain that she'll wander off a bit in order to cast something. And when you need to run away, she'll either a) stay with the enemy (when you need her alive) or b) chase after you, pulling the enemy with her (this happens when you want her to stay). But I digress. I managed to beat the hydras by spamming Resurrect. I was able to bring teammates back to life quicker than the hydras could kill them, which was kind of fun.

    <img src="http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/hydra.jpg">

    And last, but not least, a sand drake. These tough lizards like using earth magic, and can inflict a lot of pain very quickly. I though earth magic was weak until I fought these suckers for the first time. My pet, Longclaw, is going toe-to-toe with it in the image. He died seconds later, hit with an Earthquake and then an Aftershock. The glowing circle on the ground is a Ward Against Melee that the drake has put up - they're especially tough kills for warriors, but my ranger didn't have very much trouble taking on a lone drake with a few henchmen in tow.

    <img src="http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/drake.jpg">

    Oh and do you choose what server your charector is on?

    Kind of. The game automatically puts you in a district whenever you enter town. If you?re in America (or environs) you end up in an American district. There are also Korean and European districts. The game makes the server very transparent, as you can switch districts at well, even to go to an international district where all three regions can show up.

    A couple of questions that I just can't figure out.

    How do you rename your pet? or is this not possible

    After the searing there are merchents that sell and buy cloth, linen, bones etc for ludicrous prices. How do you sell to them as my next character is about to hit the searing and has loads of this stuff built up. And i'd like to make a quick buck when I get through.

    I've tried drag and drop into the get wuote for item thing but it doesn't work. Where am I going wrong.

    As apart from being a bit n00bish, the manual doesn't tell me how to do it and it really annoying.

    It took me a while too. Type /petname andthedesirednameofyourpet. Obviously, andthedesirednameofyourpet should be the desired name of your pet. I know I've named my pet that.

    Go to the materials merchant, go to sell. If you have at least ten units of the type of material you want to sell, drag-and-drop into the sell box and they'll give you a price. You must have at least ten units of it.

    I strongly suggest that you don't sell bone, iron, cloth, linen or leather - the same goes for the Rare version (linen bolts, steel ingots, etc) of those. You'll end up needing them later. DON'T USE FUR early game. This bears repeating: DO NOT USE FUR FOR ANYTHING EARLY IN THE GAME. Get the best armor you can get that doesn't involve fur. It's extremely expensive, and you'll generally find yourself regretting wasting money on armor that you're replacing in fairly short order anyways. Save it until you get to Droknar?s Forge, where you buy the 1.5k armor, or until you get the 15k armor. And don?t bother with the Ranger armor that needs fur at all ? get Druids Armor as soon as possible and never look back.

    And finally, a new image for you all: my ship getting in.

    Raven nice color change, and I wish a Happy Canadia day to you!
    Though I do miss the old ones a bit. Also thank you for the updates and pictures you have posted for us all to gawk at. They look amazing, and cause me to have jealousy pains at night when I sleep.....and cry.

    Once I have this game we will need to get together and do some warring some where down the road. I really look forward to having the game and actually playing on such a large scale... it has been too long for that. Not to mention we will get to slaughter things together.
    Good times ahead.

    Reading the thread generally gives you some idea of how what a game is like.

    I got the game after reading this thread and seeing young Ravens screenshots.

    So

    GET IT! :D

    hope that'll do ya.

    d00d no...notice reg. date. ;) Now do you understand? :p

    I would say that this game is pretty amazing. Just rifel through some of the posts and see if you like what you read, and definitely stop and check out Raven's updates, they are pretty awesome in their own respect. And seeing as how it is a free MMORPG (basically a MMORPG) you won't have to keep paying for it to play, so you can take breaks and pick up again whenever you want without having to worry about subscription fees ever.

    I am buying it. I just wish I already had bought it when it first went on sale.

    Sigh - Old Ascalon was so pretty before the Searing. :(

    I had the most awesome game of random team 4v4 yesterday morning. I was on a decent team ? we won five or six straight, including two on the dreaded Ring of Fire map, with three W/Mo and one N/Me. We took down a lot of Warriors, Rangers, Mesmers, Elementalists, and Necromancers, but only a few Monks along the way, and only one of those Monks knew what he was doing. And then we came to the Kryta island map, where we faced a team of one W/Mo, and three monks. Well, one was an E/Mo, but he had strong protection and healing abilities as an Earth Elementalist.

    And boy, did we ever run into trouble. There was one point where all four of us were pounding on one of them and he was gaining health. Not a pretty sight. I was the only person on my team who didn?t die, and the only one to ever actually kill anyone. But more on that kill in a minute: I really feel a need to describe the game. Suffice to say, we ran into a team that we had little chance of being able to beat. But as the death penalty mounted on my teammates, little chance became no chance. I kept running around, resurrecting everyone. One member of the other team, the Elementalist, got clever. He camped out next to the body of the necromancer, and whenever I revived my teammate, the Elementalist would immediately cast Aftershock, killing him again. Sprint and Healing Signet kept me alive. I spent 16 minutes running around, and no one was able to kill me. But eventually, I started to feel bad. These people had earned the win several times over, and I was just being a random stumbling block.

    So, there had been some trash talking between the other team?s warrior and my own team. I didn?t get involved much, but the others were going at it. The typical blame game and ?you got lucky? sort of stuff going back and forth. So, I challenged the warrior to single combat, saying that win or lose, I?d leave. However, if the monks intervened, I?d resume my game of running around and bringing people back from the dead. So, we had it out on the beach. And it was an epic struggle indeed. He initially had the upper hand, but as my adrenaline built, I was able to maintain a continuous ?Watch Yourself!? Combined with Healing Signet, I was able to recover health faster than he could with his Monk skills. In short, I pwned him. And then I kept my word: having won the 1v1, I left the game.

    My current PVP build:
    Skills: Power Attack / Cleave [elite] / Penetrating Blow / Dismember / ?Watch Yourself!? / Healing Signet / Sprint / Resurrection
    Axe Mastery: 12 (11 + Minor Rune)
    Tactics: 11 (10 + Minor Rune)
    Strength: 12 (10 + Minor Rune + Dragon Helm)
    Unused: 1.
    And my base health is a fairly impressive 581.

    Finally, this is my most interesting shot of the day. I wandered into the random 4v4 waiting area, and there they were.

    I just got Guild Wars today. My friends had been talking about getting it and playing, but I still skeptical. Then I saw this post and decided to get it! I bought the Collectors Edition from best buy. Anyways, Any help for n00b? I picked warrior as my primary and Monk for my secondary, and my mission at the moment is leading the one guy through the catacombs at Ashford Abbey. I played for an hour, and have no idea what I am doing. XD

    The coding for the game is really optimized. I?m surprised by how high my three-year-old machine can turn up the graphics settings, and I?ve heard a lot of stories about people on 56k modems being able to play the game without problems.

    I?m now busying myself with capturing elite skills. I have 33 out of 90 so far.

    OMG, some of the reviews written 4 GW here in Aust are f-amazing!!! Things like:
    1) "it is incredibly difficult to find a group" <- don't know what u been doing, mate!!!
    2) "there is no chance for groups as large as 50" <- u'r point being??? Ever tried being in 1 of those groups... trying to control the other players to make a successful assult is rather... difficult.
    3) "no chance of steal other's kills" <- I actually viewed this one as a plus...
    4) "PvP is strongly restricted" <- Viewed this one as a plus 2, since noobs on WoW don't stand a chance if other players decide they're just going to kill off their char. This one factor really soured my experience with WoW, the super-level char. preying on the lower 1s.

    Now for some ++++++:
    1) NO, ABSOLUTELY NO, monthly fees!!!
    2) Graphics are fan-f-tastic, better than WoW (IMHO) - haven't played EQ2 so I can't comment there...
    3) Play is nice and easy 2 master and it is possible for a lover lvl char to take on a higher lvl opponent and survive, if they put a little thought into assult, which btw folks, is actually how it works in reality.

    Shrug factors:
    1) SL continuity... One of my guild members and I completely ruined that in the pre-searing section when we took out all those Charr north of the wall *oops* Oh and we took out that one near Ashford 2 - he had no chance of getting away... *evil grin* But sure enough they all popped up later.
    2) Being dumped mid-mission means u can't finish it. Not physically because I did eventually manage 2 take them all out, just the mission didn't finish. And there was nothing left 2 kill... So had 2 map out and start over with a new group...

    This first lovely image is of my new Necromancer/Mesmer in Old Ascalon. Beautiful country.

    <img src=http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/gw178.jpg>

    This second image is also of my new Necromancer, standing with some henchmen. The guy is called Little Thom, but I call him Stalin.

    <img src=http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/gw224.jpg>

    My third image isn?t of my Necromancer but rather of my Ranger. She?s in one of the toughest areas of the game there, hunting for elite skills, and under attack by both Azure Shadows and Tundra Giants.

    <img src=http://torch.cs.dal.ca/~creelman/gw201.jpg>

    And my fourth and final shot is of my Necromancer, holding the Scepter of Orr. The Scepter of Orr is one of the most awesome items in the game for a caster ? and one you only get for two missions.

    Hate to sound like a n00b but I am having some trouble. I have a bunch of material, like scales, bolts of clothing and the such, but I don't have anywhere to put it, or any way to use it. What do I do with it? I know you can customize it to armor and stuff at the armor dealers. But what of the rest of the junk, like plank of wood, and spider legs and stuff. Any use for those?
    I also have a problem with the inventory. I always am running out of room. I bought a belt pouch but it is only 5 extra spaces, and then I quested to get another, and it won't let me use it. So now I am stuck with an extra belt pouch that is useless.

    Any advice would be hawt.
